Work Text:
Aoyama has been moping in her general direction a lot lately.
It’s a weird way to put it, but Mina can’t think of anything else to call it. Her classmate has always been a strange one, but she doesn’t mind that; he’s funny, and she’s always been a fan of strange things to begin with. She definitely considers the two of them friends, and she’s used to him doing unusual things, so it’s not like it’s any surprise that he’s doing yet another unusual thing. It’s just that she doesn’t really get it.
He’s been moping in her general direction, in that he gives exaggerated sighs more and more often, and even more often if she notices that he notices that she’s looking at him. The sighs are somewhere between longing and just plain mopy , and he always has a far away look in his eyes- or, well, more far away than usual. His expression is pretty much always impossible to read, so the fact that she can tell that he’s got his mind on something means that there’s something different there.
It’s clear that he’s moping about something, and since he mostly hams things up when she’s paying attention, she thinks that it’s pretty safe to say that he’s moping in her general direction. As for why he’s moping in her general direction, she has no idea, but she knows that something’s up with him, and that it involves her, and that she should probably just directly ask him, if she wants any answers.
So, that’s exactly what she does.
“Do you want to talk to me about anything?”
“Oh? Do you have something you’d like me to talk about with you?” he asks vaguely, and she can just tell he’s trying to sound cool and mysterious, and it’s hard not to laugh.
“Well, you look like you’ve got something on your mind, and you keep sighing at me and stuff,” she replies. “So, if there’s something wrong, now’s your chance to tell me about it.”
“Oh, my dear, I couldn’t begin to express what’s wrong, and what’s right , right now,” he says, with another one of those exaggerated sighs. “It’s the worst sort of ailment, because it’s the sort that there’s no cure for, and I wouldn’t want to be cured even if there was. In fact, dare I say it, I-”
“Can you get to the point already?” she asks. “Are you sick or something?”
“Perhaps I am,” he murmurs. “Some people do call it lovesickness, don’t they?” He gives her this look like he’s dropped the biggest bomb possible, almost smug, like he’s giving her time to recover.
“ Oh ,” says Mina, shaking her head. “Yeah, it seems obvious now!”
“Well, I...are you not going to-”
“I mean, I know it’s gotta be me, if it’s all that obvious. If you like me, you should have just said so!” Laughing, she shakes her head again. “You don’t have to try to drop hints, or whatever. Is that what it is? Am I right?”
“You certainly know how to take the wind out of someone’s sails,” he says, his slight smile never faltering. “Alright, then. Now you know, even if it’s not with as much flair as I would have liked to confess. So? What do you say to that, mon amie?”
“I guess...are we gonna go out now? Do you want to do something this weekend?”
As much as he’s tried to stun her with his confession, even after all his buildup, Mina soon takes control of everything, leaving him the one in need of catching up. She really can’t say she’s all that surprised that he likes her; in fact, it might even be more surprising that she returns his feelings, but, then again, a part of her always suspected. Whatever the case, she’s at least glad she’s discovered the source of his moping and come up with the proper solution.
