Chapter Text
It isn’t weird for Yoongi to be awake at 3am, Seokjin thought. What’s weird is for him to be home earlier than 5 in the morning. Another weird thing is that they almost never use that side of the room; they usually sleep on Seokjin’s bed since Jungkook’s stuff, for some reason, is always on the rapper’s bed. What’s weirder is Yoongi just sitting on the floor with his back facing Seokjin’s bed. The older isn’t really sure what Yoongi was doing, with the bookshelf blocking most of his view and Yoongi’s figure, his dark hair and dark clothing not helping at all, blending with the darkness of their shared room.
“Yoongi?” Seokjin asked weakly, still a bit dazed from being woken up by the faint noise, like scratching, coming from the Yoongi’s end of the room.
“Yoongichii...” he called him again “come to bed.” Seokjin saw his partner turn a little—his eyes slightly adapted to the dim room by now— but with his eyelids getting heavier by the second, he took the slight movement as a response and made space beside him on his bed.
Seokjin woke up with Yoongi’s arms wrapped around his waist and his legs thrown around the younger. It was never like him to wake up at 10 in the morning but brushed it off when he remembered waking up in the middle of the night. As much as he likes seeing Yoongi asleep, he woke him up to ask what he wants for breakfast. “Yoongi, wake up.” Seokjin said in a low voice while nudging his lover gently. “It’s a bit late but I’m making breakfast. Do you want anything?”
Yoongi just hummed as a reply, trying to fall back asleep as he buries his face in his hyung’s chest.
“That’s barely an answer, Yoongi.” Seokjin said with his voice much more awake now.
“Hyung, I just got home two hours ago. Aren’t you always nagging me about getting enough sleep?” Yoongi mumbled on Seokjin’s shirt, insistent on his pursuit of going back to dreamland.
The older was confused to say the least. He tried to argue with the boy but somehow it explains something he was already feeling in his gut. But he was sure he saw Yoongi—no, he saw somebody in their room earlier. He was going to ask Yoongi if he went home then went back to the studio but his own thoughts answered him when he saw the fading, almost silver again, blue color on the smaller one’s head.
He was disgruntled about how he forgot Yoongi already dyed his hair lighter or how he didn’t even bother to get up and check who the person was. In his mind at that time, it was his roommate. It’s always just been his Yoongi that would be awake at that ungodly hour. He thought of asking the other members if one of them made their way upstairs to their room. He would ask them if it weren’t for the fact that none of them have black hair anymore. "It must be the lack of lighting? It can't be, I can't possibly mistake another member for Yoongi." he mulled over in his head.
The thought of having an intruder in their dorm terrified Seokjin. After all, it’s not impossible knowing how much attention they’ve been getting. He contemplated about telling the members but decided against it until he calls their manager. He ended up even more confused than he already was.
“Hello? S-Sejin hyung?” A slight but noticeable tremble escaped the singer’s mouth.
Sejin almost immediately detected the fear in Seokjin’s voice. “Is everything okay?” He said while picking up his car keys just in case.
“Hyungnim, I think someone was here last night. I-I thought it was just Yoongi but it wasn’t. And I’m doubtful it’s the other members because it didn’t look like them. Like, it couldn't possibly be anyone of the members I'm sure of it. I really thought it was Yoongi. I didn't even think about it. I'm so sorry. I should have checked. I-I should know better, I should do better. Now I’m scared to tell them and I’m not sure if we’re safe—“ Seokjin’s panicked rambling was cut off by their manager.
“Jin, calm down. What do you mean ‘it’ didn’t look like them? Are you okay? Is anyone hurt?” Sejin asked, genuinely worried.
“I don’t know, hyung. Everything and everyone seems fine. I just saw someone in my room when I woke up in the middle of the night.” He has calmed down a little knowing there’s a person taking care of them. Sometimes he wishes he’s not the oldest especially when something like this happens.
“Jin-ah, are you resting well? I’ll have someone check the footages but as far as I know our security is airtight. No one can just get in your dorm. I’ll call you when they see something.” Sejin assured the oldest member.
It wasn’t even half an hour when Seokjin receives a text from their manager saying there wasn’t a single person that entered their dorm at those hours and confirming Yoongi went home in the morning. Seokjin replied with thanks while feeling discomfort fill the pit of his stomach.
It was almost dinner when he saw Yoongi walking up to him while stretching and yawning, obviously still in the process of being fully awake. This might be his favorite version of Yoongi: bedhead and well rested. Seokjin found it so endearing that he almost forgot what’s been bothering him the entire day. “Had a nice nap, cutie?” Seokjin said forgetting Hoseok is in the kitchen with them.
“Can you guys not do that in front of me? I’ve asked so many times!” Hoseok said with a fake disgusted look on his face referring to Yoongi who was now nuzzling their eldest’s broad shoulders, apologizing for not helping out in preparing dinner.
Seokjin chuckled at Hoseok who always seems to be present when he and his roommate display affection towards each other. “Sorry, Hobi.” He muttered while handing Hoseok the plates. “Yoongi,” directing his attention to his roommate “make yourself useful and call the others, yeah? I really doubt you’re going to wash the dishes later.” Seokjin said sternly all the while contradicting his strong command with kissing the top of his the younger’s head. “And stop bribing JK with video games to do your chores for you!” He yells at Yoongi who’s now waddling out of the kitchen.
It’s been a bit of habit for them to stay seated at the dinner table after eating. The members would talk about their day or whatever’s in their mind. Some days, they would just spend time silently scrolling through social media on their phone, at peace with just each other’s company. Seokjin wished it wasn’t one of those days because he knows silence won’t bring him peace. Not tonight, at least.
It was like a domino effect. The moment Namjoon picked up his phone, one by one, the rest followed suit except the oldest. Seokjin was too engrossed in his thoughts that he didn’t even notice someone staring at him until the latter poked his arm lightly.
“Ah, what is it, Taehyungie?” Seokjin smiled reassuringly as if he already read his dongsaeng’s mind.
“Is everything okay, hyung? You look a bit… off.” Taehyung blurted, not necessarily the word he’s looking for to describe Seokjin.
Almost immediately, everyone looked up from their phones to look at their hyung; their faces mixed with confusion and worry. Yoongi especially looks like he’s ready to interrogate his boyfriend albeit regretful that he didn’t notice it first.
As much as he wants to avoid scaring everyone, he knows when not to lie to Yoongi. Seokjin knows that when Yoongi is set out to hear the truth, he will get it. As stubborn as he is, he’s no match for his roommate’s spoiled brat tendencies.
The oldest told everyone what happened. Namjoon said he probably was just dreaming which he considers. Taehyung and Jimin both said that he probably just misses Yoongi to which he agreed. Hoseok was on the brink of crying, holding on to Jimin while repeatedly asking Seokjin to tell them he was kidding. “Hyung, please, it’s not funny!”
This was expected. He didn’t know what to do because he does want to take it back. He’ll be fine fearing whatever it was that he saw on his own. But he would be lying if sharing what’s been bothering him didn’t lift a massive weight on him. Seokjin was thankful for their youngest, really. He really is.
“Don’t worry, Jin hyung. I’ll punch that ghost in the nose if I ever see it.” Jungkook said while throwing punches in the air. Everyone laughed at their maknae, even Hoseok who was still latched onto Jimin.
“Do you think I’m going to let you sleep in our room again because of that? Besides, you don’t even know if it’s a ghost. Or it might be a ghost of an MMA fighter. ” Seokjin retorted almost mockingly, turning the same age as the youngest.
“It’s not a bad idea, hyung.” Yoongi chimes in. “Let him stay in our room for the night. I know you’re not going to let me put off work anyway even if I suggest on staying.”
Seokjin nods. He’s right, he thought. He knows how important Yoongi’s work is for the rapper so he vowed never to interrupt that process. Plus, it would be nice to hang out with Jungkook.
“Unfair! I want to sleep over too!” Jimin said excitedly.
“Jiminie! I can’t believe you’re going to leave me alone in our room!” Hoseok almost shrieks his words out. “Seokjinnie hyung, let me sleep in your room too!” he added.
“I guess we have room. It’s not the biggest room for nothing.” Seokjin said with a much happier tone.
“I guess you should go with them, Tae. I’m going to leave with Yoongi hyung later to work on the studio.” Namjoon utters facing his roommate. Taehyung just nods while his boxy smile shows itself.
Fr: Yoongichii~
“Everything okay?”
“Yeah, just getting ready for bed.”
“I’m sorry I can’t be there tonight but let me know if something happens. I’ll come running, I promise.”
“So cheesy. Good night, Yoongi.”
“Good night, hyung.”
He knows he should be the one protecting them. But with his dongsaengs surrounding him, Seokjin never felt safer. It’s as if nothing happened and there was nothing to be afraid of. He can close his eyes and sleep peacefully. Everything’s fine… until he heard the scratching and looked at the clock hitting 3am again.
