Work Text:

Yoshikage couldn’t put to words how beautiful this day was. As summer usually was, the day was warm and sunny, and while he wasn’t someone who was fond of warmth, it felt oddly suiting for this special day. There was a slight breeze that would hit every so often, and it was blissfully peaceful.

Josuke was too excited for the day. So excited in fact, that he didn’t mind his dads dressing him up that morning. A little tuxedo wasn’t his go to outfit, but it was cute enough to make Josefumi tear up as he watched his son toying with his blue bowtie.

“He’s like a little puppy,” Josefumi muttered to Yoshikage.

“... What a weird comparison,” Yoshikage laughed in reply as he bent down to help his son retie it.

August twelfth, clear skies and warm sun. The perfect day for a wedding, especially a wedding on a boat.

There weren’t many people at the wedding. Yoshikage had invited Kyo and Holly, of course. Two of Josefumi’s work friends showed up, as well as Yasuho and her mother, and since Yoshikage so graciously invited her, Karera. Joubin showed up with his family, but Josuke and Yasuho made it clear that they had no interest in handling his little brother.

Kyo stole the title of ‘Maid of Honor,’ since Yoshikage wasn’t so willing as to come up with another term, and Karera did the same with the title of ‘Best Man.’ It was strange for them to have a couple that lived together on separate sides as they were standing at the altar, but it wasn’t long until they forgot. They were too caught up in their own bliss to care about the thoughts of other people.

Yoshikage’s mother was who was chosen to marry them, despite the fear that she might marry the wrong people. With her being in steady recovery, it wasn’t as painful as they feared it would be. She actually seemed to understand the premise of what had been happening.

The ceremony wasn’t very long, mostly for the fact that both of them understood they wouldn’t be able to keep Josuke and Holly’s attention for more than ten minutes at a time. It took a while to get Josuke down the aisle with how easily distracted he was, but he fought through it to be the good little ring bearer his fathers wanted him to be.

Josefumi was the first one to start choking up during the ceremony, and after hearing Yoshikage say ‘I do’, the sobs began to start. Yoshikage tried to comfort his sobs during the kiss, but it wasn’t very long until he was sobbing as well. Josefumi’s arms wrapped around him, and Josuke grabbed one of Yoshikage’s hands for good measure.

After all these years, they were officially married, and it almost felt like a dream as Yoshikage felt his now husband rocking him in his arms.

“I love you so much,” Josefumi whispered in his ear before he started to pull Yoshikage down the aisle again, his hand in his. Despite how little Yoshikage enjoyed being remotely close to the center of attention, he didn’t mind the eyes on him as he held his husband’s hand and, soon, his son’s hand as he chased after them. Couldn’t forget about him. His thumb ran across the ring on Josefumi’s hand, and his hand started to shake. He had waited all this time, and it was finally happening.

“Was Yasuho crying?” Josefumi asked during dinner, making Yoshikage grin. There was a seat in between them that had been pulled up for Josuke, but it was pushed aside soon afterwards when they realized that the boy was more interested in sitting next to his little friend. She really had looked glossy-eyed the entire night.

“Josuke wasn’t crying,” Yoshikage commented with a small laugh.

“No, he’s not really a crier,” Josefumi said with a smile.

“You are,” Yoshikage replied, leaning closer to press a kiss against his husband’s cheek.

Being the center of attention wasn’t terrible, but it was still nerve wracking for Yoshikage to put himself through. Josefumi wanted to stick to some tradition and found a way to talk him into a dance, and he had never been one to dance. He stood closeby his husband, his eyes stuck on his hand as he moved him from side to side.

“You’re all mine,” Josefumi whispered to him, and it seemed that he had the same idea Yoshikage had to watch the ring move with them.

“I’m all yours,” he replied quietly. “I’ve been yours, though… I love you, Fumi.”

Their moment was interrupted, as usual, but neither of them minded as Josuke clung to their legs, trying to dance with them. Josefumi let out a small laugh and moved one of his hands from Yoshikage’s hip to take one of Josuke’s small hands.

“Hey, darling,” he said softly before Yoshikage pulled away from Josefumi to pick him up despite how heavy he was. Josuke grinned at him before he rested his head on his shoulder, and Yoshikage noticed Holly dancing with Yasuho and Joshuu a few feet away from them. At least she was still one for entertaining.

“You don’t wanna be with your friends?” he asked him gently, resting his cheek against Josuke’s.

“I love you, dad,” Josuke said quietly, bringing a grin to Yoshikage’s pale lips. “My dads are married now…”

“Sure are,” Josefumi said chipperly before he leaned closer to press a kiss against his husband’s lips. Yoshikage kissed him back quickly before he turned his attention back to Josuke.

“Are you sleepy, sweet pea?” he asked him softly, handing Josefumi his hat so he could run his hand through his son’s hair. Josuke nodded his head ever so slightly, and Yoshikage looked back up at Josefumi. “... I’m going to sit with him in a quiet room for a few minutes until he regains his energy. Do you mind?”

“Is that code for you need to regain your energy too?” Josefumi asked him softly, kissing his cheek gently before he nodded his head. “Go ahead, darling. I understand…” Neither of them were extroverted by any means, but Yoshikage made Josefumi seem like a social butterfly. “Just a few minutes?”

“Yes, just a few minutes…” Yoshikage replied with a small laugh before he started to walk away with his son, allowing Josefumi to tend to the small crowd himself. He was sure it would be alright. One of the beauties of being married to this man was that he understand when Yoshikage needed a quiet moment.

There was a separate room on the boat, and Yoshikage walked Josuke down to the room, setting him on the couch gently. He sat beside him and pulled him close to him so he could snuggle with him. His son nuzzled up against him, closing his multicolored eyes and yawning quietly.

“Are you having fun?” Yoshikage asked him. It was getting late for him, he knew. It was nearly eight, and eight was his usual bedtime. It was okay for him to stay up every once and awhile, though, he thought.

“So fun,” Josuke answered sleepily.

Yoshikage sighed softly, running a hand up and down Josuke’s arm while the boy tried to fight sleep. He knew that his second wind was going to come any moment with his son’s behavioral patterns, but he was enjoying the closeness at that given moment. “I love you, honey,” he whispered quietly to the small boy, who let out a giggle at the comment.

“You love papa too,” he muttered under his breath while Yoshikage smiled in response. Oh, well, he was caught there.

“How’d you know?” he teased him, pressing a kiss against his forehead.

“How did I know?” Josuke repeated, and Yoshikage could feel the second wind coming on. The boy snickered and snorted at the question, picking his head up to look at him with pure confusion. “Dad, you’re goofy… I know… you love my papa, you married him.”

“Whoa,” Yoshikage played along. “How did you know that?”

Josuke let out a small gasp, looking bewildered yet happy at the question. “I’m super smart,” he announced before he stood up from the couch. “Yasuho, let’s find Yasuho…” he said quickly while Yoshikage stood up from the couch to tail behind him.

They found themselves back in the dance room, and Yoshikage’s eyes fell straight on his husband while his heart beat quickly. Husband, he thought to himself. What a silly word to have such a strong meaning… He loved this man. Ah, as he watched the way he looked at him. Those hazel eyes felt as though they were sucking in his heart.

He walked over to his husband, looking up at him as he took his hand. His thumb ran across the back of Josefumi’s tan hand gently while he snuggled up against him as a greeting, smiling up at him.

“You’re so handsome,” he said quietly to him.

“You’re gorgeous,” Josefumi whispered back, brushing the hair out of Yoshikage’s face. “You have the most beautiful lips…”

“Feel them,” he said with a small laugh, waiting as Josefumi pressed his own against his pale lips. He returned the kiss momentarily until Josefumi pulled away, glancing over at Josuke. “Is he fighting with Joshuu again?” Yoshikage asked tiredly.

“... Joubin can handle it, I think…” Josefumi sighed. It was hard to discipline their son for fighting with the other kid, especially since both of them were well aware that the other boy was the one who initiated most of the disagreements. “Let’s not worry about it right now.”

Yoshikage nodded his head slightly, and as he turned his attention back to Josefumi, he was startled by the view of his mother directly behind his husband. He jerked back, but he soon regained his composure as he saw the smile on her face despite the way she tried to get his attention.

“Oh, my darling,” she cooed, breaking in between him and his husband to embrace her son. He hugged her back almost automatically, letting his eyes fall closed as he did so. “I never thought I’d see this day. I’m so happy for my crabby little dumpling.”

“I don’t know if that’s somethin-”

“You look so gorgeous tonight, honey,” she said, pulling away from him to take both of his hands in hers. He opened his eyes to glance at her, a smile growing on his lips.

“Thank you,” he said softly. It meant more than words could describe that his mother was able to recognize his appearance, let alone compliment him on something that he would have earlier thought as trivial. “I love you…”

“I love you too, darling,” she replied as she wrapped her arms around him tightly. “My little boy’s all grown up,” she mumbled into his ear.

“I’ve been grown up,” he said under his breath, letting out a small laugh. “You’ve seen my son running around all night, haven’t you?”

“Oh, well, there’s that,” she said, waving her hand slightly to dismiss the topic. “But you’re married now, my love…”

“... And having a child was a small feat?” Yoshikage said as a joke, laughing while his mother teasingly nodded her head.

“I’m just happy for you, Yoshikage,” she said, kissing his cheek quickly. “You seemed so happy…”

“Mom,” another voice commented, and Yoshikage glanced up to see his sister walking up to them. Why do they always have to sneak up? He smiled at her as she pried her mother off of him, looking over at Yoshikage.

“Someone wants to dance with me,” Josefumi said quietly, patting his husband on the shoulder before his son dragged him away towards the dance floor, leaving Yoshikage with his mother and sister. He was disappointed to see him walk away, but he always enjoyed to watch him dance with Josuke. He was so full of joy around their son.

“Does it feel surreal?” Kyo asked him softly, letting her mother lean against her while she spoke with Yoshikage.

“Oh, God, yeah…” Yoshikage laughed, his hand reaching for the ring on his hand to twist it on his finger. “I have a husband now…”

“What was weirder? This or having Josuke?” she asked him curiously with a smirk on her painted red lips.

“Is that even a question?” Yoshikage laughed meekly.

“He would constantly remind me he never wanted to be around children in his entire waking life,” Holly said softly to her daughter. “I didn’t think I’d be a grandma with you two, but I also didn’t ever think Yoshikage would ever tie the knot with anyone, let alone such a goofy man…”

“Yeah, he seems a little too happy for him,” Kyo teased.

“Josuke got that from him,” Yoshikage muttered, looking down at the ring. “They don’t really let me be crabby… But no, I never expected to ever be a father, so Josuke is a little more weird… Ah, but they make me so happy…”

“No time to be mister cranky,” Kyo said.

“Every single day, ‘Mom, I hate children.’ ‘Mom, how could you ever stand having kids?’ ‘Mom, I’d lose my mind if I ever had a kid.’ ‘Mom, I’m never having kids in my life.’ Then suddenly, ‘Mom, I’m going to have a son,’” Holly said with a grin, making Yoshikage’s cheeks light up.

“I-I know,” he said quietly. “That was weird… but I thought it through, obviously…”

“You really do have a little family now… And you’re moving out of the apartment soon,” Kyo said softly, her brow furrowing. “I never thought I’d see this happen… A family man…”

“I miss being able to sleep though,” he retorted.

“Oh, you never slept anyways,” she replied.

“I’d check in on you in the middle of the night sometimes, and you’d be reading those damn textbooks until you physically passed out,” Holly said.

“Oh, I’m so sorry I was furthering my education,” Yoshikage grumbled, but his mother was able to pick up on the fact it was a joke. He turned his head to look at what was going on in the dance floor, watching Josefumi pick up their son. “I’ll be back,” he said quietly, excusing himself to run over to them, catching both of their attention almost immediately.

“Dad,” Josuke exclaimed, reaching out for Yoshikage as Josefumi giggled in his direction. Yoshikage wrapped his arms around the both of them, kissing Josuke’s cheek gently.

“You look so cute,” he said quietly to his son before Josuke tried to get down. Josefumi set him down and knelt down beside him, pulling Yoshikage down beside him. Josuke snuggled up against both of them, closing his eyes as he nodded his head slightly.

“You’re absolutely gorgeous,” Josefumi whispered to Yoshikage, making the older man blush in reply.

“Thank you, darling,” he whispered, puckering his lips as Josefumi leaned in to kiss his lips. Josefumi wrapped his arm around his husband, glancing as he saw Kyo running up to Karera.

“Are we gonna be at their wedding in a few years?” Yoshikage whispered to Josefumi as Josuke’s hands run through the bangs that were falling against his face. His husband’s head jerked towards him, surprise on his face at the comment he just heard.

“Wedding?” he asked quietly. “Someone’s being awfully… optimistic,” he whispered.

“I’m just in a good mood,” Yoshikage replied, poking Josuke’s stomach gently, smiling as he heard the boy giggle before he jerked away.

“Tonight was fun, fun, fun,” Josuke said quickly, turning his head as Yasuho ran over to him. His attention was spent entirely on running after her, leaving his fathers alone together.

Yoshikage placed his hand on the other man’s face, running his thumb against his cheek. “I’m your happy little husband,” he whispered to him.

“I love the sound of that,” Josefumi whispered, pulling his hand away from his cheek to press his lips against the palm of his hand. “Married…”

“Married,” he repeated. “Are you excited?”

“Oh, I’m far more than excited,” Josefumi replied with his grin, snuggling against the other man, taking in the moment. Ah, after all these years, they finally tied the knot. He couldn’t have been happier. It was so incredibly cheesy, but he could understand the feeling finally. Safety and security with his husband.

As his hand gently rubbed Yoshikage’s back, his smile grew wider. Growing up, Josefumi never imagined anyone would want to stand near him, let alone love him as much as Yoshikage proved he did. Somewhere, he’d taken the right path, and he knew that this giddy feeling wasn’t going to disappear anytime soon as he embraced his husband. This was correct; this was what was meant to happen.

Love wasn’t always easy, but it was the most important decision they had made in their lives.

“I’m going to love looking at that ring on your finger everyday,” Yoshikage told him quietly as his head rested on his shoulder.

“I just love you so much, Yoshikage,” the younger man replied softly while his husband grinned.

“That’s what I love to hear.”
