Work Text:

The weather remained bleak with dark clouds gathering around the bustling city. Everyone went about their daily routines, warily watching the sky as they held onto their umbrellas. Drops of rain began to fall, gradually becoming heavier until it poured.

Tucked inside his warm sleeping bag, Aizawa reluctantly opened his bleary eyes to the sound of rain tapping on his window. Still half-asleep, Aizawa patted around the floor for his eyedrops, needing to relieve his irritated dry eyes. He cursed under his breath when nothing came out. Aizawa rustled around his empty apartment and grumbled when he couldn’t find any eye drops. Turning off the light, he grabbed his umbrella and set out to a nearby convenience store.

Aizawa paused in front of his doorway and closed his eyes to savor the sensation of the cold rain falling onto his umbrella. Many people hated the rain, but he appreciated the sense of tranquility it invoked. Aizawa’s heavy boots splashed in the puddles on the sidewalk, grunting as he ducked into the overhead of the convenience store for cover. He made his way in and greeted the owner with a small nod. The cashier stuffed numerous of eye drops and some cat magazines into a plastic bag and handed it to the exhausted man. Retrieving his umbrella, Aizawa tucked his purchases under one arm and headed back to his cozy bare apartment.

The rain was beginning to slow down to a shower, so Aizawa chose to indulge himself by walking the long way home. The streets were usually quiet when it rained because no one wanted to get wet, allowing Aizawa to quietly enjoy the sound of rain and the crisp air around him.

Usually though.

A few trembling cries broke Aizawa out of his trance, darting his hand out to chase away the drops of water that were blocking his view. He found the source of the pitiful noise, two small kittens who were abandoned in a box shivering in the rain. Aizawa quickly crouched down and held his umbrella over the poor animals, gritting his teeth at the low-life that left them here. One of the kittens meowed and cautiously came towards Aizawa to sniff his free hand. A faint smile touched the corner of his mouth, rubbing the kitten’s chin with a soft gaze on his tired face.

Aizawa was a man moved by logic, choosing not to fuss about his appearance and lived with the bare minimum. Despite his apathetic appearance, Aizawa genuinely cared about his loved ones and would go to great lengths to protect them, especially cats. He loved cats, but he didn’t have the time to raise one and his apartment complex doesn’t allow animals. Aizawa couldn’t bring the kittens with him and risk bumping into his wandering manager. A high-pitched sneeze broke his flow of thoughts and Aizawa unwrapped his scarf to bundle up the rain-soaked kittens. His eyes slightly widened as he stared at the scene before him.

Aizawa stepped into his apartment complex, closing the umbrella to shake away the remaining water. With one hand holding his bag and umbrella and the other touching his scarf, Aizawa pressed the elevator for his floor. The manager came out of the elevator and greeted his tenant. Aizawa’s long black hair was messy from the wind and his neck buried deep in his scarf, it was nothing new. Aizawa grunted in reply and hastily stepped into the elevator when a quiet meow caused both of them to stop.

“What was that?” the manager asked in confusion, turning around to face Aizawa.

“Nothing,” Aizawa curtly said as he pressed the close door button.

Aizawa hunched over in relief when the elevator door closed, tilting his head to let a tiny paw poke out of his scarf.

Notes:

I've been thinking of this little scenario for a while and decided to write it out because I need a break from midterms LOL. Let me know what you guys think of this :D
