Work Text:

Jeongguk wakes up to grey light and soft warmth. He stretches slowly, leeching tension from his muscles, and yawns hugely, collapsing into a content puddle. Jimin shifts against him with a grumble, jostled by Jeongguk’s movement. Jeongguk nuzzles into him with a happy hum, kissing the nape of his neck and tangling his legs with Jimin’s.

“No,” Jimin mumbles.

Jeongguk laughs quietly, brushing his hands through Jimin’s hair tenderly. “No?”

No, I don’t want to wake up,” Jimin elaborates with a little whine, burying his face in the pillows. “It’s my day off and I’ll sleep in if I want to.”

Jeongguk tuts sympathetically, fingers still tugging at the ends of Jimin’s hair. “But it’s Christmas,” he cajoles, bending to kiss Jimin’s cheek. “And I still haven’t given you your present.” Jimin cracks one eye open, looking at Jeongguk with interest, so Jeongguk goes in for the kill, gesturing to the window with a nod of his head. “And it’s snowing.”

That gets Jimin’s full attention. He’s out of bed and across the room in five steps, forehead smashed against the glass and a large smile tugging at his lips. “They’re such big flakes, too! Beautiful.”

“Yeah, it is,” Jeongguk says as he joins Jimin at the window, though he’s looking at Jimin more than he is the falling snow.

Jimin giggles and nudges Jeongguk with his elbow, a little blush sitting high on his cheeks. “You mentioned presents?”

Jeongguk nods gravely. “I did.” He takes a small red box from the pocket of his sweats and hands it to Jimin. Jimin gently unknots the gold bow and pries off the top. Nestled in soft cotton is a simple ring, a single opal set in white gold and accented with glistening diamonds.

Jimin holds his hand out so Jeongguk can slide the ring on. “It’s beautiful,” he says, tilting his hand side to side so the light plays off the flecks of color in the opal.

“It’s engraved.” Jeongguk admires the shine of the ring against Jimin’s skin and bends to kiss it reverently, teeth nibbling around the band. He doesn’t miss the way Jimin’s breath hitches, or the slight tremble in his fingers. “Our initials and the day we met.”

“Oh, Gukie,” Jimin breathes, cradling Jeongguk's face in his hands and bringing him in for a soft kiss. “I love it. I love you.”

Jeongguk wraps his arms around Jimin’s waist and pulls him close, pressing his lips to Jimin’s forehead. “Merry Christmas, hyung.”
