you have really kind eyes

Summary:

She let out a yelp as she nearly stumbled backwards, her tiny arms shaking as they threatened to give out, only to feel the box steady and lighten, and big sweaty hands graze hers.

The two of them stiffened, and Urakara gasped loudly, jerking her hands away and covering her mouth. With brown eyes wide, locking with the equally as wide red ones.

Bakugo stood, holding the box and staring at Urakara with the most shocked expression on his face that it was almost comical.

Work Text:

Uraraka stood in front of the small store, sighing at her phone with no service.  Her brown eyes stared at the ‘no signal’ symbol in the corner of her phone, begging it to change.  Uraraka had walked to the store to pick up some groceries for dinner, her parents were coming home late and she was hoping to surprise them with a good hot meal…

That was until it started pouring rain.

Usually, she would just run home, but she was carrying a bag full of food and didn’t want to ruin it...and the walk from here to her house was at least fifteen minutes, she’d for sure catch a cold!  That’s why she resorted to calling one of them and ruining her surprise, pulling out her phone in defeat she realized she was quite literally stranded.  She would worriedly look from her phone, then the rain, and repeat the cycle over and over again.

“Pleeeeease, please!  Please, phone, I’m begging you!  Soggy ingredients will be useless!”

After repeating her current system, she groaned loudly and rested against the stores wall.  She was happy it was dry, she felt too embarrassed to go back inside..the workers must have seen her yelling at her useless phone and looking from the phone to the sky in almost a theatrical sort of way..they HAD to be laughing at her!

Frowning and furrowing her eyebrows, she tried to call one of her parents one last time, only for the phone to beep in refusal and go back to the homescreen.  Uraraka put her phone in her pocket and pursed her lips.  That was until the sliding doors beeped next to her and out walked a tallish boy.  He didn’t give her a glance, and took the few steps out of the dry area and opened something that Uraraka was in desperate need of.

An umbrella.

Uraraka only prayed they were friendly.

“U-um!  Excuse me!” She called out as they continued walking, “Hey!  Umbrella man!”

The boy snapped his head to face her, “What?!”

They both stared at each other.  The only sound Uraraka could hear was her heart beating and the rain hitting the earth in loud taps.

Bakugo stared at Uraraka, eyes wide.  She noticed him swallow tensely and him stiffen.

“I thought we were gonna do some serious hero training today,” Huffed Midoriya, as he set down a large box on a stack of other large boxes, “Moving storage wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.”

“It does make us stronger, if you think about it!” The brown haired girl inhaled sharply as she picked up another heavy box.

Everyone was assigned to something to do today, something about the school “needing cleaning”.  Somebody was doing something, nobody was slacking off today.  Midoriya and Uraraka were assigned to sort storage..which meant taking boxes out of a dusty closet, looking through the boxes, labeling the boxes, and putting the boxes back.  How fun.

Midoriya usually wouldn’t have a problem with something like this, he was obviously in some sort of mood today..

“Can you move any fucking slower, Deku?”

Oh yeah.

Bakugo was with them.

“S-sorry, Kacchan!” Midoriya basically yelped, shuffling to grab another box and walk it over to Urakara.

“Stupid ass, it’s not that fucking hard to lift a box.”

“H-hey, let’s just get this done with fast, okay?”

Bakugo huffed loudly, dramatically, even, and Midoriya nodded and gave a weak hum of agreement.  Urakara just hoped it this didn’t turn into yet another loud argument.

After five minutes, the silence grew thick and uncomfortable.  Bakugo’s loud shuffling and his constant glaring at Midoriya was making Urakara nervous.  As she finished up with one box, she moved to get another.  The small hands she had easily slid under a box and pulled it off the others..yet she wasn’t completely balanced.

The box fell loudly, its contents tumbling out as Bakugo quickly walked out of the room.  Urakara watched as he quickly left, taking note of his blond hair and those bright crimson eyes.

She couldn’t believe this, all this time.. At the sports festival, she would’ve found out much sooner if she just was able to touch his arm..

Snapping out of her silence as she felt hands grab her shoulders and shake a little, she noticed Midoriya staring at her.  His bright green eyes pierced hers, his dark-green locks were in swirls and looked like a mess.

“Urakara?!  What’s wrong, what happened??!” Midoriyas’ voice was almost shrill, full of worry.

Her hand reached out, she finally noticed.  She had a creamy complexion, it looked soft and pretty in her eyes.  Blinking twice, she reached out and put her hand in Midoriyas hair.  Running it through and noticing the different shades of colour.

“U-Urakara?!”

“D-deku..your hair is green..”

He stared at her, and it took a couple moments of her fingers running in his hair for him to understand.

Bakugo touched Urakara’s hand for the first time and they could both see colour after that.  They figured out where their red thread was tied:

They were soulmates.

“W-what the fuck are you doing here?” He sputtered anxiously, taking a step back.

“I-I was buying groceries!  W-why were you here?!” Urakara barked back.

“I was--That’s not the point!” Huffing, he scrunched his face up and cleared his throat, “What do you want, why’d you call out to me?”

Now this is when Urakara shuffled.

“I..um..I didn’t know it was gonna rain..and I bought all this food and I don’t want it to get spoiled..” Shifting from foot to foot embarrassingly, she found herself staring at her boots.  Lucky to wear them at this moment, but she smiled a little noticing they were a pretty cream colour.

“I only live fifteen minutes down that street,” She pointed in the direction Bakugo was originally going, “I-I, um...was wondering if you could walk me..”

Bakugo blinked once.  Bakugo blinked twice.  Bakugo blinked thrice.

“You stalkin’ me, Urakara?”

She sputtered.

“W-what?!  No!!  I only want you to walk me b-because you have an umbrella, you doofus!” She said, her voice breaking a little.

Bakugo groaned in discomfort, really tempted to just walk away and leave her.  She walked there by herself, she can be a big girl and go home by herself.

He made an observation how she was shaking..her pale purple sweater was loose, and the gray fleece scarf around her neck would get soggy and feel disgusting in the cold.  Huffing and looking around for a moment, he turned around again and coughed dryly.

“Come on..”

He silently cursed at himself for letting his voice sound so small.

Urakara smiled and quickly skipped to his side, and underneath his umbrella.

They walked quietly at first.  Urakara would constantly be looking at him from the side, to see what he really looked like..she couldn’t believe she was destined to be with him.  With that thought in her mind, she thought she was convincing herself that just because they’re soulmates that they’re going to date and get married and move into a small suburban home and have five kids together…

Urakara cleared her throat awkwardly, looking forward with a very obvious flustered expression.

Bakugo noticed immediately.  He had been doing the same thing that she was doing.  He wanted to forever imprint the colour of her skin, hair and her gentle soothing eyes in his mind...not only with her, of course, he wanted to remember everything.  He didn’t like her, she's just a normal girl who means nothing to him.

At least that’s what he keeps telling himself, as he's looking at how small she is compared to him, and noticing the gentle motive of her grocery shopping.  No way in HELL would someone that stingy buy so much food for them self.

“I-I didn’t think you existed.” Doubtfully saying, his voice wavering.

“H-Huh?”  Urakara, literally, squeaked.  Her brown eyes looking up at him.

“I mean the whole..soulmate..thing…” He started the sentence off loudly, then slowly it grew softer, “I didn’t think I would ever meet mine..”

“O-oh…”

A brief silence.   Keep talking, Bakugo, you fucking moron.

“My parents.  They aren’t soulmates.” He hesitated, “They met in highschool and stayed together since.  Neither of them have met their soulmate and think the whole thing is shit, they always talk about how you can be happy with the gray colours.”

Urakara hummed softly, “I didn’t know that, that’s interesting,” She said softly, “My parents are soulmates, they always talk about how they wanted me to find mine….”

“Sorry I’m not really what you were wishing for.” He sneered, walking a little faster than before.

“I-I never said that!” Urakara was quick to counter.

It had fell quiet again.

Great.  They both made each other uncomfortable.  They walked the rest of the way in silence.

“T-this is it..t-thank you, Bakugo.” Urakara’s voice was embarrassingly small, glancing up at him as she bowed and quickly walked up her steps.  For some reason, Bakugo stayed for the extra second to watch her bounce up the steps and set her bag on the dry spot by her front door and shuffle through her pockets to find her keys.

As he stepped away, he bit the inside of his cheek.   God dammit.  God fucking dammit.  Why do you always fucking have to do this to yourself, Bakugo?  You’re self destructive and a piece of fucking garbage, you might as well be as much of a useless, whiny bastard like Mineta !  This is why nobody likes you, this is WHY fucking DEKU is better than you!  HE CAN TALK TO HER.  YOU CAN’T EVEN FUCKING LOOK AT HER--

“B-bakugo, wait!”

He stopped.  The aggressive thoughts were brushed away with the sound of her voice.  It was like a bell ringing to stop the calamity inside his mind.

“What?” His voice was tight.

“I..” She was hesitating, “I..um..”

“I don’t have all fucking day, Urakara.”

“I’m happy that it’s you.”

Time seemed to slow down even more.  He turned to look at her slowly.

She was standing in the rain a few steps away from him, staring at him with a smile.  Cheeks were dusting a soft rose colour and her hair was damp, clinging to her face wildly.

“Not for a second have I ever had a bad thought about you..yeah, you’re loud and brash, and sometimes violent.  You could be nicer to people, but..” She paused, taking in a deep breath,

“Even when everything was static, I knew..you..have really kind eyes.”

Bakugos breath hitched and he couldn’t keep up his facade of being strong.

He dropped the umbrella and walked fast to her, engulfing her in a deep hug as his face buried in her hair.  She was tense, and it was obvious to say she wasn’t expecting it.  But after a moment of him hugging her, she was quick to return it.  The arms that wrapped around his midsection were small, but the hold was firm as she squeezed him and nuzzled her face into his chest.

The rain was hitting them, they were both getting soaked.

“Don’t say anything... please. ” He softly pleaded, gently pulling back to lean down, and press his quivering lips against hers.
