“‘Have a snowball fight with me,’ he said. ‘It'll be fun,’ he said.” Park Jimin mumbled under his breath.
He was currently crouched behind a giant snow pile waiting for his friend, Kim Taehyung, to come around the corner. The two of them had been having an all-out snowball fight for about two hours and all Jimin wanted to do now was return back to their dorm and have some hot chocolate. His hands were numb and he cursed himself for foolishly forgetting his gloves as he rubbed them together hastily. Peeking out from behind the snow, his eyes scanned over the courtyard. There was no one around, but that didn't surprise him in the least. Classes had been canceled due to no one, not even the teachers, wanting to step foot outside. The temperature was ridiculously low and the slight breeze that occasionally blew through certainly didn't help. A shiver ran down Jimin’s spine and he adjusted his scarf so that it covered his mouth and nose. He decided that if Taehyung didn't show up within the next three minutes, he would just return to the dorm. He knew it was rude to just leave without saying anything, but he convinced himself that he’d make it up to Taehyung with a mug of hot cocoa.
So when three minutes, or what he assumed was three minutes, had passed without a sign of Taehyung, he got up and began to retreat from his hiding spot. But before he had fully revealed himself, he heard something. Quickly ducking back behind the snow pile, he held his breath and listened closely. A smirk spread across his face when he heard the unmistakable sound of snow crunching underneath boots. As the sound inched closer, he set to work on making a decently sized snowball. His hands stung from the cold, but he pushed through it in favor of getting back at Taehyung for making him wait this long. Once his ammo was ready, he waited until the crunching seemed to be right beside him before standing up and swiftly throwing the snowball. There was a string of curses and then a satisfying splat, signifying that his throw had been successful. Jimin smiled triumphantly and made his way over to his friend.
“Took you long enough to show up, Tae! Can we head back to the dorm now? It's too col-" He stopped talking abruptly, finally close enough to see the person he had hit. His eyes widened and his heart skipped a beat when he realized that this person was definitely not Taehyung. The guy before him was about as tall as his friend, but that's where the similarities ended. The male’s hair was chestnut brown and his doe eyes sparkled with amusement as he wiped off the pieces of snow on his face. Jimin felt the heat rise to his cheeks when their eyes met and he fumbled nervously with the end of his scarf. “I'm so sorry about that...I thought you were someone else,” he mumbled softly, averting his gaze.
“It's all good,” the brunette replied without a hint of anger in his voice. A silence quickly fell over them and Jimin shifted awkwardly.
What the hell was he supposed to do now?
Should he say something else?
What were you even suppose to say to someone you accidentally pelted in the face with a snowball?
“So, um…” He started off nervously, gaining the courage to look up at the other male again.
“Yeah?” The brunette asked expectantly, raising a brow as a small smile formed on his face.
“Well...uh…” Jimin trailed off again and he mentally scolded himself for being unable to communicate properly.
“Are you always this eloquent?” The other male teased with a soft chuckle.
“Well if you think you can do better, go ahead.” Jimin challenged, sounding more confident than he actually felt.
“Alright. How about some introductions, then? Jeon Jungkook,” the male said, offering out his hand.
“Park Jimin,” he replied, gingerly taking the other’s hand and giving it a quick shake. A look of recognition flashed across Jungkook’s features as his eyes scanned over Jimin’s face.
“You’re a photography major, aren't you? I think I've seen some of your work.” Jimin looked at him with surprise and nodded slowly.
“Ah, really?” He asked, feeling flustered once more.
“Yeah, you've even inspired me a few times…” Jungkook admitted with a sheepish smile.
“Are you into photography too?” Jimin asked, causing Jungkook to shake his head.
“I'm more of a drawer. But your photos of nature made me want to go out and draw it myself.”
“Is that why you're out here in such horrible weather?” Jungkook nodded and chuckled a bit.
“I thought it would be the perfect time to do it since no one else would be out here. I managed to finish a drawing. Would you like to see?” Jimin nodded eagerly and Jungkook grinned before moving to pull a sketchbook out of his bag. He flipped through several pages before handing it over. A soft gasp escaped Jimin’s lips when he laid eyes on the drawing; it was a sketch of a tree with some birds and snow occupying the branches. The shading was expertly done, which caused it to look more like a black and white photograph than a drawing.
“This is...incredible,” Jimin commented, fingers tracing over the intricate details.
“Really?” Jungkook asked, sounding surprised.
“Of course! You’re very talented, Jungkook.” A red flush had appeared on his cheeks and Jimin wondered if it was because he was sensitive to the cold.
“Thank you, that means a lot,” Jungkook said as Jimin handed back the sketchbook. They fell silent again while Jungkook stuffed the book back into his bag. Jimin began to fiddle with his scarf again as he felt Jungkook’s gaze settle on him. “So, um, Jimin…” The brunette said after a moment, sounding nervous all of a sudden.
“Yes?” Jimin asked, looking up at him curiously.
“Well, I was wond-" But he was abruptly cut off by a loud shout. The pair turned in the direction of the sound and found someone running towards them.
“Jiminie!” They called out and Jimin instantly recognized the voice as Taehyung’s. When his friend finally arrived at their side, he was out of breath and his hair was slightly mussed up.
“Where the hell have you been?” Jimin asked, hitting him against the chest playfully. Taehyung laughed breathily and offered an apologetic smile.
“I'm sorry...I went to warm up a bit.” He explained in between deep breaths.
“Without telling me?!” Jimin exclaimed while hitting him again albeit more forcefully.
“I did tell you! You just didn't hear me. You were too busy running away like a coward.” Jimin felt the heat rush to his cheeks, but still managed to glare at his friend.
“So who is this?” Taehyung asked, transferring all the attention over to Jungkook.
“Oh, that's right. Tae this is Jungkook. Jungkook, Taehyung.” Jimin explained as the two males shook hands.
“Thanks for entertaining Jiminie. He hates it when he doesn’t get any attention,” Taehyung said, promptly receiving another blow from Jimin.
“It was a pleasure to run into him, really. I wouldn't mind doing it again.” Jungkook said, his eyes flickering over to Jimin as he smiled.
“I wouldn’t mind either...” Jimin agreed, smiling back shyly.
“Shall I give you my number, then?” Jungkook offered with a raise of his brow.
“Oh, um, sure! I don’t have my phone with me so you can just write it here.” Jimin said, offering out his hand. Jungkook took it gently as he pulled a pen out of his pocket. He took off the cap with his mouth, which was a lot more attractive than Jimin expected, before writing down his digits. Jimin felt a warm feeling surge through his body due to how tenderly Jungkook was holding his hand.
“Alright,” Jungkook said, releasing his hand gently once he'd finished. “I'll see you around. It was nice meeting you both.”
“See you,” Jimin agreed as Taehyung waved him off. Jungkook waved back, smiling brightly at Jimin before walking away.
“It's about time you got asked out,” Taehyung muttered, once Jungkook was out of earshot.
“Shut up, it's not like that…He's just being nice.” Jimin insisted as they began to walk in the direction of their dorm.
“Yeah, right. Did you see the way he was looking at you? It was like Cupid hit him with an arrow or something.”
“Well, I did hit him with a snowball...”
“You did not!” Taehyung exclaimed before bursting out into laughter. Jimin smiled sheepishly and shrugged a bit.
“Oops?”
“'Oops,' my ass! He’s so cute, I bet you did it on purpose.” Taehyung said, slinging an arm over his shoulders. Jimin swayed a bit thanks to the additional weight and rolled his eyes.
“It was an accident,” he said as he looked down at his hand, eyes suddenly widening in surprise. He had expected Jungkook’s number, that much was true. But what he did not expect was Jungkook’s number and several small hearts doodled around it.
“See? What did I tell you?” Taehyung asked when he caught sight of Jimin’s hand. “He's got it bad.”
