(Original Draft)
An Ashen fanfic.
No friendships. Ever. That's what Kanaya told her weeks prior, but Rose never really grasped the full of it until she found herself at the end of an Ashen crush. Now the Trolls are growing and the culture gap widening, the demon pounding on the door and the horrors whispering in ears. At the centre of it all: Rose, trying to stand on both sides of the shore: without magic, without guidance and without one of her closest friends thanks to the very gap she is trying to bridge. This fic is dedicated to the Alternian third wheel.
We're starting over, folks! A second draft will begin in January 2012, in a new story file (so sadly, bookmarking this one will not help. I'm sorry, but I didn't want to delete this archive of the original!). The link to the new draft is below.
Thanks to everyone who supported me during the first year. I hope to see you all in the new draft! If you're a new reader, the archives will remain intact. It's up to you to decide if you care to read one when we'll be coming back soon, better than ever!

You discover to your surprise that the fic you have come looking for is actually the abandoned first draft, and that the new second draft can be found above, smelling of piney freshness, and whatnot. Of course, you are relieved to find that the rest of the original draft is still stored in the following, musty, dusty pages. What a relief.
The first run is over, the second began in January 2012, when A Hand in Holding Hands began its second draft, which in turn ended in October 2012, leading off into commentary. The first draft will remain here, more-or-less untouched, for posterity. I want to thank everyone for their support during the initial run, and I hope you'll stick with me when we start anew in the new year, better than ever.
Note that the new draft will be a new story file on AO3, so I'm afraid bookmarking this one won't help. I don't want to flush the old stats, but I also don't want to flush the old draft! It seems better to keep it together. I hope I don't lose anyone in the shift!
For those looking to know when the fic starts over, but aren't willing to leave it up to spotting it in the recent updates, I've hastily prepared two solutions. Both of these will update the next time the fic does. Unfortunately, I do mean "hastily" and bit lack a certain decorative touch: it's 4am on the 23rd, I am officially out of free time before the holidays, and I've never used Tumblr in my life. Renovations perhaps to come.
