Work Text:

He couldn't believe his eyes. He thought for a moment his eyes had seen wrong, or that his mind was playing some kind of trick on him. That couldn’t have possibly been what happened.

Did Jotaro’s fins just give a little flutter?

He must be losing his mind, there was no way he saw those little fins move, let alone give an excited flutter against the side of his head. Kakyoin surely must just be losing his mind. Jotaro has been excited before, Kakyoin has seen him eager to show Kakyoin something he had found for him, or when he was telling him a story of something he had encountered that made him think of the human, or that Kakyoin would’ve like to hear about it.

But perhaps there was a chance.

Kakyoin had seen it in passing when the shark was pulling something out for him, the largest Nautilus shell kakyoin had ever seen, and such a lovely shade of blue. And when his eyes had lit up at the sight of it and he took it carefully from Jotaro’s hand with a smile splitting his face, he saw it. The little flicker of movement, and Kakyoin was sure it was just a trick of light off of the ocean. But now, now he was sure he could try and see if it truly happened. He knew he could get it to happen, and while it would probably embarrass the other, it would just be another notch on his list of things he adores about his shark boyfriend.

They’d be going on a dive together today, Kakyoin having a new wetsuit to break in, after Jotaro had a hand in ruining his last one. And those things aren’t inexpensive either, and he was super excited to see where Jotaro was going to take him today. They had been on several dives before this, and each time was vastly different than the last and it never ceased to amaze him just how vast and beautiful the ocean could truly be.

He was currently waiting out by there usual spot, the rocks obscuring the distant sight of the families out and enjoying the sun and the sand, having a nice time, their laughter a distant breeze across the beach as he leaned back against the solid surface of the rock, eagerly awaiting Jotaro, his surfboard gently sitting next to him. He never used it when they went diving, but he always brought it, just in case he decided to shred a bit while he waited. He never did, but it was just a thought.

He saw the fin break the water before he saw the others head, the black locks rising out of the water as the shark swam up to the beach, his clawed fingers grasping at the grains under his body and pulling up closer to the human. He caught sight of Kakyoin, the man having pushed off of the rock to meet Jotaro halfway, so he didn’t have to exert too much energy getting out of the water, just to get back into the water merely moments later.

“Good morning Jojo.” Kakyoin called with a smile, walking over to the larger, seeing the small smile pulling at the corners of Jotaro’s mouth.

“Good morning Noriaki. Are you ready? We’re going out rather far today.” Jotaro greeted him, the two making their way back out into the water, the sun shimmering against the water, but not quite into Kakyoin’s eyes yet to the point where it was uncomfortable. He waded out with Jotaro, moving to hold onto him when they got far enough out. His hands held to Jotaro’s shoulders, his legs brushing against the back of Jotaro’s long body, feeling the muscles push the two of them out and further into the water. “You’re going to enjoy it.”

“I’m sure I will,” Kakyoin’s smile was present in his tone. His hands holding firm to Jotaro as he pushed them through the surf, the subtle waves becoming choppier the further they go out. “I always do.” He looked out amongst the sky, seeing the soft clouds above them, the gulls flying above with their loud cries, a few diving down to try and grab something under the surface. He could see other fins in the distance, wondering silently if they were just other fish, or perhaps hybrids like Jotaro.

He tried not to think about it too long, instead turning his focus back to the shark he held to, shifting to instead have his arms around his neck and lean further against him.

“So where are we going?” He hummed, his head resting against Jotaro’s shoulder.

“You know I never tell you, why do you insist on asking every time.” Jotaro asked him ,and Kakyoin knew he was playing, making him chuckle as he nuzzled the back of his shoulder.

“Because I ask every time. If I didn’t it wouldn’t be the same.” He retorted, feeling the shark’s shoulders shake in a quiet laugh from deep in his chest, making Kakyoin smile just that little bit more. “I’m also hoping one of these times you break and just tell me where you’re leading me to.”

“Maybe I’m taking you somewhere to finally eat you.” Jotaro responded, voice monotone and stoic and it only made Kakyoin laugh louder and Jotaro smile at the sound that rang like bells in his ears.

“Yeah, that’ll be the day, Mr. ‘Humans taste like shit and I’d rather starve than eat one.’” Kakyoin snorted out and kissed the side of his neck, near the fluttering gills of the shark’s neck. That sent a shudder down Jotaro’s spine, Kakyoin feeling it through his body. It had always been a sensitive spot for the larger and Kakyoin exploited it at every given moment to get intimate in any way with the shark. Jotaro shrugged his shoulder at him to knock Kakyoin away from his gills with a huff, the breath rushing gently against Kakyoin’s face through the sensitive slits.

“I’ve told you about that, Nori.” The shark scolded him as they came to a stop in the middle of the ocean, no visible landmarks that Kakyoin recognized near them. “Leave my gills alone.”

“Mmm. Where are we Jojo?” Kakyoin ignored him blatantly to instead try and see where they were, hand coming up to block out the sun that had rising to now shimmer off of the water and right into Kakyoin’s eyes. Good thing they’d be diving shortly.

“Come with me and find out.” He said simply as he shifted to try and gently push Kakyoin off of his back. The human went easily and with a smile at Jotaro’s barely there teasing tone, pushing off to instead tread the water next to him. “You’ve been getting better at holding your breath, but you won’t need to worry about that too much here.” Kakyoin tilted his head a bit at that and watched as Jotaro went under and he in turn followed suit, taking a deep breath and ducking under.

He opened his eyes and nearly lost it all at the sight.

Jotaro had brought him to a beautiful reef. So near the surface it looked like the coral was dancing upside down along the surface of the ocean. The bright colors shone in the sun, and the scales of many fish shimmering like stars in the night sky. The sight alone brought joy to his heart and the sight was amazing as the shar moved to guide him along the reef, through the coral and the sea life adorning it. He was shown through little caves, through kelp wefts and over wave smoothed rocks, which he couldn’t help but reach his fingers out to and skim them across the smooth surface. Jotaro took him up a couple times to get a fresh rush of oxygen in his lungs, but Noriaki would be the one pulling him back down, eager to see more of what the ocean had to show him.

They went through once more little alcove to the side and found themselves at a deep drop off, seemingly going down for miles, darkness forming at the bottom. Kakyoin’s eyes widened at that before he felt Jotaro’s fingers at his chin and he first looked to him before the shark turned his head out to instead see a pod of whales on the move, their song carrying through the water like music and reverberating deep in Kakyoin’s chest. He watched, mesmerized at the sight of the whales swimming gracefully, a few calves floating around their mothers with the energy that only children could have.

It was amazing. He looked back to Jotaro and smiled to him, the shark returning the gentle smile. Kakyoin reached to cup his cheeks and press a kiss to his lips. He pulled back and got to witness it, the shark had a small look of shock in his eyes, but the small smile still on his lips and his fins gave a happy little flap at the side of his head. Kakyoin giggled a bit, losing a good portion of his air and having to have Jotaro take him back up. He coughed the water from his nose, but it was worth it. He got what he wanted, and even more. He kissed him again when they got up to the surface, more than satisfied with this trip, and Kakyoin could once again hear the whales in the distance under the water.

“This was nice Jotaro. Thank you.” He whispered softly against his lips, holding to him as the shark shifted him so he could hold him instead as he swam them back.

“Worth the wait and surprise then?” Jotaro hummed back, kissing his temple.

“And more.” Kakyoin hummed, smiling even more as he pushed a stray lock from his sharks face and behind his fin, fingers brushing the rough skin slowly. “And so much more.”

Another notch on the list taken care of.
