Chapter Text
Summers in the city infringed on sweltering. And Kan was intimately aware of this as he patrolled the seedier parts of downtown. It certainly wasn’t the best part of his job, teaching was always where his passion lay, but after a slew of attacks from villains, all heroes were on high alert. Meaning, he was sent out on patrol instead of teaching his normal classes.
Sweat dripped down his body and dampened his clothes, even stinging at his eyes as he squinted toward sky. The sun was still high, not a cloud in sight as he sighed and jogged on. The streets weren’t too crowded at least, letting him relax a bit as he smiled at each passerby.
There was less of a chance of anyone recognizing him for an omega in the emptier streets. Most of the time, it wasn’t an issue. The worst discrimination Kan experienced included a few offhand comments from his coworkers, some teenagers being unable to comprehend his stature and his biological status, and maybe a misunderstanding when first getting into a relationship.
Sekijiro smiled at the thought. It was almost comical watching Aizawa get close enough to really smell him for the first time. His eyes widening, nostrils flaring as he realized that he wasn’t dealing with a hulking alpha, or a neutral beta, but a hot blooded omega. It was comical, and endearing, something they laughed about now.
But real discrimination was only a threat when he was out in public. Stores and bars were safe, no one really wanted to try and tackle his sheer size even if they did throw him a few dirty looks. It was on patrol that he really needed to be careful.
Villains had the ability to take him on, or even take him out completely. There were evil people who not only targeted him for being a hero, and a powerful one, but also for his status as an omega. That intersection could be deadly.
The reduced foot traffic helped though. There were less threats in his line of sight, he allowed his mind to wander a little bit. Looking back now, he thought that the crowds might have helped him. Maybe if there had been more threats, he would have been able to anticipate the hand shooting from the darkened alley and yanking him deep into its depths.
He was tossed into a wall before he could try and fight the hand from his scruff. His head cracked against the cement, making pain shoot across his skull and down his spine. Kan collapsed as they closed in around him, adrenaline pumping through his chest as he tried to gain his bearings.
“You fucking reek.” There were at least two men surrounding him. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to reach for his quirk, but the pain was making it hard to focus. Every time he opened his eyes more white hot pain crashed through his head, stealing away any drop of focus.
“A fresh, omega whore.” A glob of saliva landed on the back of Kan’s neck, making his stomach curl with nausea before he was able to stop it. “Prancing around, soaked in sweat, as if it was hard to smell him.”
Sekijiro bit his tongue. He did reek. He was damp with sweat, and the adrenaline was only making it worse. The scent was uncomfortably close to arousal, making him squirm as he clenched his hands into fists. They made no move to hurt him yet. His mind ran wild, half of him trying to formulate how he was going to fight off a group of people without his quirk, and the other dreaming up disgusting scenarios of why they pulled him in here in the first place.
“Looks big.” There were three men then.
Sekijiro struggled to take even breaths, fighting against the pain crashing through his nerves and the hot blood leaking from the back of his head, while they closed in all around him. Every breath caused more alpha scent to fill his mouth and nose, choking him and making him lightheaded. “But I bet he couldn’t even hold his own in a fight.” They all snickered, finally making something else besides pure panic and fear rock through Kan.
“Well have you ever seen an omega that doesn’t think with their cunt?” Their laughter was rough and grating in his ears. Kan’s hands curled into fists and finally, he snapped.
As soon as he shifted, the alphas closed their circle around him, taunting drowned out by the rushing of blood in his ears. One of them kicked Kan in the chest, slow and sloppy in a way that made him almost laugh as he curled his hands around the man’s ankle.
All it took was him pulling the alpha to the ground, to have the entire mood in the alley shift. Kan only gained power while the other two were stunned to silence, unsure what to do as the seemingly helpless omega yanked one of them to ground. Even more so when he struggled to his feet, no longer anchored by his head injury, kicking the alpha in the stomach until he was satisfied he would stay down.
Kan had hoped that the other two men would just take off, realizing that they were outmatched and unable to hurt him anymore, but instead their rage flared.
It was against everything he had ever been taught in hand to hand combat. He was told to take out his opponents and run, and as soon as a group appeared to sprint away. He could have escaped, there was nothing blocking him in. But he was enraged.
His quirk was the farthest thing from his mind as his vision ran red and he happily advanced toward the two emasculated alphas. They rushed him at once, but were sloppy and pathetic. Their strikes glanced off his chest, their fear overwhelmed them. He was smiling by the end of the fight, tongue poking from between his teeth as he realized his scent was the strongest in their cramped alley.
Kan came out of the fight with his head sluggishly leaking blood and a few bruises on his knuckles. The three alphas were barely conscious at his feet, making weak groaning noises as he pulled out his phone to call for an ambulance.

“Jesus Christ, Kan.” The nurse shook her head as he shrugged and cringed a bit. The three criminals were handled, getting treated for their wounds and questioned by some members of the police force. “You need to be more careful.”
He clenched his jaw as she finished bandaging up his head. There were no other big injuries, and thanks to her quirk they would be healed within the hour. “It's not my fault I’m an omega.” She rounded the bench to look at him, arms crossed over her chest with her face pinched.
“You know that’s not what I meant.” He shrugged while she stared at him. “I meant that you shouldn’t have gone off alone. That you shouldn’t have tried to take down three alphas on the edge of their fucking heat.” His jaw clenched. She was right, but he certainly didn’t want to admit it.
She cupped the side of his face, smiling a bit sadly as he nodded. “I know.” She patted his knee before turning to start cleaning the room. “I do end up here too much, don’t I?” She laughed and nodded.
“I always hope there is a week where you don’t end up in need of my quirk.” The pain in his skull was starting to abate, the blood had stopped a while ago. The tenderness in his ribs was completely gone, even when his fingers tapped against the skin.
It was about time to leave, and she rounded the table to change the thick bandage for a thinner one. He chewed on the inside of his cheek, struggling to find the words. He never wanted to… lie to his lover. But there was also no sense in worrying the overprotective man. “Please, don’t-”
“Tell Shouta?” She finished as he pulled the bandage off, examining his skull to make sure the wound was entirely closed. “Yes, I won’t, and you know that.” When she was happy with his head, she gave him a few painkillers and a small glass of water. “I have no interest in worrying that alpha. You will have to be the one to tell him if you choose.” Kan nodded and took the medication before standing steadily.
“Good luck.” She murmured, while he waved and walked out of the small clinic, ready to face down his partner at home.
~~~
The house was still bright with light when Kan finally got home. Aizawa was close, he could smell him from the moment he opened the door. Sekijiro didn’t acknowledge him as he pulled off his jacket and toed off his shoes. Even as Shouta came into view and leaned against the entry wall. “You’re late.” Kan nodded, finally looking up to his partner.
“I was worried.” Kan smiled a bit sadly, and shrugged.
“I’m sorry.” He took a step closer, watching Shouta closely as he first really smelled Sekijiro. “It got a bit messy.” Aizawa’s nostrils flared, pupils dilating as his instincts surged through him. Surely, he could smell the hospital on Sekijiro’s skin, maybe even the blood or the other alpha’s saliva.
“Now, I’m really worried.” Aizawa advanced upon him and Kan made no move to step back, standing tall as his alpha pressed close to him. “Are you okay?” Sekijiro used to think the size difference between them was funny, this little scrappy alpha pressing close to him and asserting his dominance, but now it was just endearing.
“I’m okay.” He closed his eyes, letting Aizawa rub his hands down his sides. “I’m okay.” His face nudged against the side of Sekijiro’s throat, refusing to pull away until Kan tilted his head back. Aizawa sniffed at Sekijiro’s scent glands, even opening his mouth to tease his lips against it. When his instincts were satisfied with the state of Sekijiro’s scent, he pulled away to look over the rest of his body.
“I already went to the clinic to get cleaned up.” Aizawa ignored him and rounded behind him to double check the back of him as well. He seemed slightly less worried when he came back in front of him, eyebrows still a bit pinched until Kan reached down to rub at the wrinkle there. “Please don’t be upset.”
Shouta lifted himself onto his toes, grabbing the sides of Sekijiro’s face. “You worry me. Please, be more careful next time. You should never travel alone.” He tried to roll his eyes and pull away, but Shouta kept a firm hold on his face. “I would say the same thing to you if you were an alpha, Sekijiro.”
Finally he relented and wrapped Aizawa in a hug, nodding as he tucked his face into his lover’s shoulder. “I’ll be careful.” They stood there for a while, Aizawa on the tips of his toes to wrap his arms around Kan’s shoulders. They just listened to each other’s breathing and absorbed their scent until Aizawa shoved at him.
“Go lay down.” Kan nearly groaned before Aizawa poked him in the chest. “I’ll be damned if I don’t take good care of my omega, go lay down, I’ll bring you food.” Sekijiro tried to hide his surprise as Aizawa walked into the kitchen, chewing on the inside of his cheek as he went to their bed room. My omega.
Shouta still managed to stun him. He was such a fantastic alpha, it seemed nearly impossible. There was almost a disconnect from the soft spoken man he was in public and the person who forced love upon Kan as if it was the only thing keeping him from death. Even more of a disconnect from the man who found out Sekijiro was an omega to now.
Kan got comfortable in bed, resting any minor aches and pains as Shouta made a racket in the kitchen.
His mind wandered back to that time nearly a year ago. Kan could still remember the exact moment that Aizawa found out that he was an omega. It surprised him that it took Aizawa that long. When their relationship tumbled from competition, to friendship, into flirting and dates, it seemed like Shouta would notice his smell sooner rather than later. But they were a good three dates in before he got close enough to tell, or really tried to type his partner. It was fairly flattering that Shouta wasn’t worried about Kan’s status.
But it was also hilarious to watch the smaller alpha realize. He cleaned up well even for their casual dates, but when it came down to it, Aizawa was a scrappy, small alpha, completely unprepared to stare up at his imposing date and smell that hint of omega sweetness.
He curled the blanket up around his chin as he saw Aizawa’s eyes widen, nostrils flaring as he blinked once or twice, before taking a step back. It wasn’t the best reaction Kan could have hoped for, but it was far from the worst. Sekijiro was patient, letting Shouta process before he managed to say it. “You’re an… omega?” Kan remembered laughing, maybe making a remark about Aizawa having a bad nose if it took him this long.
When Shouta’s somber state held on, Sekijiro started to lose his footing. Thankfully, Aizawa cemented his interest with a kiss that night. And the rest was history. Scent marking and moving in and slowly becoming entwined in each other’s lives. It was wonderful.
And yet, Sekijiro still found himself rubbing the crook between his neck and shoulder, waiting for the mating mark that Shouta would lay there with his teeth. He wanted it. He had wanted it for months, but Aizawa seemed hesitant about it, withdrawn. Sekijiro would bring it up soon.
He had already known that, but it was simply cemented when his lover returned, carrying pain meds, water, and food for him. The smile was next, the fondness that made Sekijiro want to break for him. It was maybe a little surprising that the scrappy alpha cleaned up so well, but it was no surprise that Aizawa took good care of him.
They were a good match. And all Sekijiro wanted was to make Aizawa truly his.
