Save The Last Dance for Tenya Iida

Summary:

You enjoyed dancing immensely—didn’t mean you were any good, though.

Notes:

Ha! I really wanted to write this but didn't feel like putting it in my main fic, so here's like, a filler for it?

Oh! For those who don't know this is set in my Being Courted by Tenya Iida fic, but you don't necessarily have to read it to understand this! But the Reader in this fic and that one are the same!

Enjoy!

Work Text:

The university you were attending to always had a massive block party on the street adjacent to the main buildings. At the party, there was games, competitions, a literal fuck-ton of people, and of course, music.

One of the drama professors was DJing for the event, and you liked his taste in music so much more than the music you had to suffer through during your middle school dances. And admittedly he was an excellent DJ, probably does it on the side for extra cash. His appearance screamed, “hey my hair looks like a cockatiel, and I’m still cool right kids.”

You were waiting hesitantly for when a possible slow song was going to play, it was just so ingrained in your head that every dance party had a couple of slow songs that you couldn’t help it. This time, if it did happen, it wasn’t like you were single and would succumb to clinging to the tiled walls. But then again…your boyfriend was kind of a robot.

Metaphorically, you corrected yourself, then again you never checked and see if he had wires on the back of his neck so you couldn’t be entirely sure.

“(Y/N)!” Midoriya greeted you, with Ururaka and Iida following suit. You smiled and waved at them and gave Iida a quick kiss on the cheek.

How he flustered every time you gave him affection in public, you supposed it could be considered overheating…the question if Tenya Iida was really a robot needed to be tabled at a later time, however.

The four of you walked around the block and enjoyed the event to the fullest. You all played some of the games—Midoriya surprising winning the strength test and winning a toy for his girlfriend, Ururaka. You never did imagine that there was so much strength inside a sweet little boy, but looks were definitely deceiving.

Midoriya and Ururaka tried their best to get the two of you to dance, and while it was tempting a couple of time, you politely declined. When Iida would decline as well you couldn’t help but worry; was he doing because you said no or was it because he genuinely didn’t want to?

However, that didn’t stop the cutesy couple from going out and dancing to their heart's content, leaving you and Iida on the sidelines. Occasionally when a song you liked came on you hummed along and tapped your foot in appreciation, but Iida continued to remain rigid.

Oh god, what if he really is a robot and doesn’t know how to dance?!

The thought concerned you more than you thought it would. While you weren’t fond of dances, you had secretly hoped to enjoy a dance or two with your boyfriend—wasn’t it natural to do?!

Nevertheless, you tried to push those thoughts far from your mind, trying your best to enjoy the rest of the night.

But, as it got closer to the end of the night, the DJ made an announcement:

“OK! Since the committee told me I have to play at least ONE slow song, WHO’S READY FOR SOME SLOW DANCING, BABY?!”

The crowd cheered as the DJ faded out his loud, upbeat song and turned to one with a slower, softer tempo. You could see the couples immediately getting together, as they locked hands as the atmosphere became sappy and romantic.

You panicked for a second and nearly bolted when you felt a hand tapping on your shoulder, you looked over to see Iida and watched his hand glide down your arm and grabbed your hand.

“D-…Would you like to dance with me, (Y/N)?” he asked nervously, his whole body shaken with nerves.

You nodded your head slowly, a wryly smile on your face. You both made your way to the dance floor; Iida placing a hand on your waist and your hand on his shoulder.

It was a much more formal posture that what most people were doing around you two, but you both tried your best not to focus on them and start to slowly go in circles around each other. You kept the rhythm slow, trying your best not to move too fast.

Iida was struggling, on the other hand, having trouble looking you in the eyes and his body far too stiff to be able to move with you. You knew he needed to be calmed down.

“Relax,” you whispered low enough for the two of you to only hear, “it’s just you and me, Tenya.”

You could feel Tenya sigh against your skin as he tried to maintain composure. Watching him be nervous about dancing with you made you nervous as well, but you didn’t think it was too noticeable.

“I’d say the same for you too,” he replied, damnit.

You both laughed off the nerves and began to relax, stepping closer to each other and enjoying the moment of intimacy.

You rested your head on Iida’s chest, and you knew he was smiling as he rested his chin on your head, you felt so at peace, so—

Suddenly, the song began to fade, and you saw a flash of bright light coming from the left of you. It snapped the both of you back to reality, the two of you turning to see Todoroki. With his camera in his hands. Looking at the picture he just took.

“Todoroki—”

“This should go in the paper.”

“Todoroki please!
