Laughter

Summary:

Izuku had given Shouto many things; his laughter was one of them.

Work Text:

Shouto had found Izuku had many types of laughter.

The small, suppressed snorts that bubbled up from bad jokes told at the lunch table in loud voices. Izuku trying to hide the small joy he took out of them, bad as they may be. Giggles would spill from around the table, and that 1000 watt grin would light up his face as the jokes kept rolling out. Izuku would put out bad jokes of his own making, the snorts making their way through as he tried to tell the joke only to make the others laugh too because of his laughter.

His soft bell-tinkling giggle, came when he found situations amusing. He would cover his mouth as if trying to hide it but Shouto could almost always pick it out when he was around. It bubbled out when people were playfully teased, or someone almost tripped and made that funny choking noise of surprise that was almost always hilarious to everyone. When teasing arguments, mostly about Bakugou and including Bakugou, starring all of what was dubbed the “Bakusquad” he could hear the sound of Izuku’s giggling from the group of onlookers that would always appear to play witness to the hilarity. It was one of his favourites, it showed he was enjoying whatever was happening around him.

Then there was Izuku’s soft and soothing chuckle, that one mainly happened in the private areas of his safe spots or with the people he was close to. It was low and quiet, and would often be accompanied by a teasing phrase or soft sound of approval. One time, Shouto remembered, was after a sparring match between himself and Izuku. They laid on the grass afterward and basked in the soft breeze, catching their breath and Izuku let out this small chuckle and a small “Wow I can’t believe the top of our class was given a run for his money by me,” to which Shouto only let out a small breathy laugh. “Soon you’ll be beating me, at the rate you’re going,” Shouto would reply and he’d get a grunt of “I’m not so sure,” from the other boy.

Izuku’s clear, and loud laughter was found after Shouto figured out that Izuku was ticklish. Shouto tried to grab Izuku’s waist to maneuver him slightly so he could grab something from their basically shared closet at this point since Izuku basically lived in Shouto’s room now. However, he was met with a convulsing Izuku with wheezed laughter breaching his lips. Izuku slapped his hands over his mouth, his cheeks cherry red with embarrassment. Shouto wasn’t one for smiling all that much, but he couldn’t help the smile that spread over his face and the next playful minutes where he tickled the life out of Izuku just to hear the warm sound of his laughter. Izuku got his revenge later though, he’d somehow figured out that Shouto’s feet were ticklish and got his jollies out of that.

Shouto loved all of it, all of the different faces and reactions that were given to him by Izuku. His laughter was one of the many things he cherished, one of the precious gifts he would never let go of. Soon he’d be wed to the man who saved him, and given him these little treasures that he’d keep close to him for the rest of his life, promised to him by the other in front of the altar.

Shouto would promise the same.
