Chapter Text
Uraraka was late, and she knew it.
‘Darn alarm clock running out of batteries!’ Her thoughts yelled at her. How was she supposed to know the alarm clock she got at the thrift shop was going to run out of batteries in the middle of the night? She rolled her eyes and flipped open her phone.
10:20 a.m.
She shoved her phone back into her pocket and huffed loudly on the train. The few passengers that were littered in the empty seats turned their attention towards her. Uraraka blushed furiously and looked at the corner of the train, sinking into her seat to try to hide from the stares of strangers, but ultimately failing.
She closed her eyes and rubbed her temple.
‘What is Ryukyu going to do? I hope she isn’t angry, I’m never late!’ Her thoughts ranted in her head. She nervously bit her lip and checked her phone again.
No respond from Tsu either.
Uraraka gulped. She was SUPPOSED to be at Ryuku’s agency at 6:30am and she probably won’t walk in until 11:30am. 5 hours late. She rubbed her face.
It’s been a year and a half since she graduated U.A. as she started working full time as a sidekick with Ryukyu and her Agency. It was a generous offer, since Uraraka didn’t have enough fame or money to start her own agency just yet. She had just enough money from her fame to rent a small simple apartment, but it wasn’t enough to support her family like Uraraka wanted. Tsu had also received the same offer, and Uraraka was happy to see her accept, but she was already marching in the ranks and Uraraka couldn’t help but feel a little jealous, but still happy for her friend! She had texted Tsu when she woke up, and she hoped her best friend wasn’t disappointed in her. After everyone graduating, Uraraka rarely sees anyone outside of work. Everyone is so busy and Tsu is the one friend she gets to see almost everyday. Uraraka sighs. ‘She is so disappointed in me...or she is probably on patrol and forgot her phone! Yeah, that’s it...or wait, she could be in DANGER and I’m not there to help her!?!?!-‘ her mind halted and she shook the negative thoughts from her head and clenched her fists. ‘No, that’s no way to think Uraraka, just focus on getting there.’ Her mouth was set in a determined line, she wasn’t going to let her nerves get to her.
‘Almost there’ Her foot started to bounce up and down with a ‘pit-pat’ as she was ready to sprint out of the train. The train stopped and Uraraka booked out of the train.

Uraraka was just a couple blocks away now. She was lightly jogging until a foot appeared around a corner and she felt her ankle get caught around it. It felt like time slowed as Uraraka fell, bringing the victim with her. They both were falling in time and space in her mind, as she stopped thinking and her body reacted. She naturally used her quirk on herself and the victim before her mind could process the situation, gravity melting away and she was floating. What she didn’t expect was for the victim she tripped over had grabbed her shirt, almost like they were quickly reacting as well. Then, she heard it.
“HEY! WATCH WHERE- THE FUCK?!” The voice yelled and Uraraka closed her eyes and sighed, she knew exactly who that voice belonged to. Before she could turn around the victim yelled again.
“URARAKA, PUT ME DOWN!” The victim flailed and started to float higher.
‘Oh Bakugo...’ Uraraka thought to herself as she turned herself around. She grabbed his shoulder to spin him so he was right side up, then she pressed her fingers together to release them back into gravity. They both landed on their feet with a satisfying thud.
“Hey Bakugo, I’m sorry, I was in a-“ Uraraka started but was quickly interrupted by Bakugo.
“The HELL is wrong with you?! Running like a mad woman and using your quirk on me, as if I needed YOUR fucking help?! Watch where you’re fucking going next time, round face!” Bakugo growled and turned to leave before growling “And it’s Ground Zero! I’m fucking working, unlike you!” Turning swiftly and stomping away.
She hadn’t noticed he was in his hero suit, and frowned at his back as he stomped away from her. Then the words he said hit her. She felt a pang of guilt, almost as if she was punched in the gut. ‘He is right, I need to be more focused....WAIT, NOW IS NOT THE TIME!’ Uraraka chided herself, quickly getting up and running the rest of the way to Ryukyu's.
——————
When Uraraka jogged in, face red and panting slightly, she looked around for Ryukyu or Tsu, but couldn’t find them anywhere.
“You’re lateeee~” Hado sings from the corner, skipping up to Uraraka. Though Urakara is still trying to catch her breath, but managed to breathe out “Where’s—Ryu—kyu?”.
Hado puts a finger on her lip and looks up in thought, definitely a quirk she has picked up on from hanging out with Tsu. “Hmm~ she had a meeting this morning, oh! She told me that she wanted you and Froppy to go on patrol in her place. Though, Froppy is late too! Seems like you girls are slacking, you better have a good explanation for when Ryukyu comes back, she has placed a lot of faith in you two.” Hado says with a smile.
Uraraka fights the urge to cry, since basically Hado is saying that Ryukyu had placed the girls in charge of patrols due to this meeting they didn’t know about, but both Tsu and Uraraka are letting her down by being late, leaving no one to patrol in her spot. This was a careless action on Uraraka’s part, and she really didn’t want to let the dragon hero down after all that she has done for her.
“I’m sorry Hado, I’ll go get changed now!” Uraraka quickly composed herself, she needed to own up to her mistakes today. As Uraraka changed into her Uravity costume, Tsu entered the locker room as well.
“Hey Ochako -ribbit” she said, also looking a bit disappointed in herself.
“I’m guessing Hado told you off too, huh?” Uraraka sighed as Tsu nodded and changed quickly.
“Yeah, I didn’t see your text but I had run into Selkie and Sirius by the docks on the way here. I assisted them with unloading some cargo they were transporting to the police and lost track of time.” She sighed. Uraraka bit her lip. ‘At least it’s an honorable excuse...’
“Hey Ochako hun-“ Tsu started and Uraraka quickly looked up.
“What’s the matter Tsu?” Urakara looked over at Tsu.
“Well, when I finished helping Selkie and Sirius, Sirius has asked if I could become her sidekick. I told her I was working with Ryukyu, but Sirius said she is heading on a big expedition overseas, I can’t help but think that I might want to go with her...-ribbit” Tsu said with sad eyes looking at the ground.
Uraraka bit her lip to stop herself from crying. She knew what this meant for her friend, and it seemed like she was the only one stopping Tsu from pursuing her goals. So she fought back the tears and smiled. She grabbed Tsu’s shoulders and looked her in the eyes.
“Tsu, you are one my best friends in the whole world. I am happy to know how much you trust me and believe in me. We have grown so much closer as our friends moved and scattered across the city to follow the dreams we all are working so hard towards. While yes, you and I are a great team, you are always calm and collected, bringing me to stay focused and together, we are great rescue heroes. Though, I wouldn’t call myself a hero if I held you back right now. Your heart is telling you to go, the sea is a perfect opportunity for you to continue showing your talent. While the city has a lot of action, I feel like many people don’t get to see your true potential. So Tsu, if you want to go, go. You don’t have to stay here with me to make sure I’m okay, I want you to become an even stronger hero, and you can’t do that by holding yourself back to stay here with me. Don’t worry, I’ll be rooting for you, always!” Uraraka said as the tears streaked down her face, loosing one of her best friends hurt her so much, but she knew this was for the best.
Tsu was also crying at her words, but she nodded. “Thank you Ochako-hun, I’ll be rooting for you too, always- Ribbit.” They embraced in a tight hug, and then they were interrupted by a frantic Hado coming down the stairs.
“Major Villain attack, 4 blocks away, let’s go, NOW!”
