Chapter Text
December, 1981
The air is harsh and bitter in this place, the prisoners tremble, if their bodies have enough energy to do so, many are half frozen to death, others wish they were dead already.
The prison lives under constant shadow, as if the sun has forsaken the place, knowing there is nothing worth shining on left there. The bars of each cell are so cold they’re surrounded by a layer of ice. The dementors thrive. Surrounded by such despair, such fear, they’ve never seen a reason to leave.
Sirius Black knows this better than most. He does not remember how long he has been here for, does not remember that his third anniversary of imprisonment is almost here, and does not know that he will have a visitor on this date. His face is gaunt, eyes sunken into the sallow skin. Wild tanged hair and a misshapen beard hang from his face. Nothing like the dangerous and dashing bachelor of his youth. His visitor will hardly recognise him.
In the night there are screams and moans from witches and wizards that the dementors have decided to pay attention to. The other prisoners don’t dare move for fear they will be next. Sirius is no different. The moonlight is no protection at night, it offers no respite. There are no survivors of Azkaban, not really.
