Unexpected Cancellation

Summary:

As unexpected as it was, Shouta was glad Hizashi got the night off.

Or

Hizashi's work plans had gotten cancelled, and the two of them get ready for a relaxing evening together.

Notes:

Hello all! This is my first time participating in one of these fandom event weeks, and I am very, very happy to be here!

This is the shortest one I wrote for the week, but holy granola I like how soft it is? And yeah, it's not them actually on a date, just them leaving for one, but. Such soft. It was either this or a completely cracky argument thing for the other prompt and I have plenty silliness planned, okay? PLENTY.

Casual Disclaimer Here: I do not own BNHA/MHA or any of it's characters!

Aight, enjoy, friends and pals!

Work Text:

It wasn't often their schedules lined up to give the both of them a day off at the same time. With teaching, Hero duties, and Hizashi's radio show, being able to sleep in the same bed more than three nights a week was rare. So when things did line up...well, it was probably the one of the only times Shouta bothered with his appearance.

Hizashi would tell him that he didn't care if he was in a trash bag or in a tux, but Shouta knew the other liked it when Shouta put a little effort in just for him. So he did.

He didn't bother with doing a clean shave – despite what people thought about how careless he could be with his looks, he liked his scruff – but he brushed out his hair and pulled it into a bun, getting his bangs out of his face. A dark shirt with his favorite pair of jeans was his outfit of choice. Both were chosen because they were comfortable and Hizashi always told him they accented his muscles. Double checking that he'd remember to put on his deodorant, Shouta nodded to his reflection and finally left the bathroom to meet with Hizashi in the living room.

It was one of those rare days when Shouta had a day off and Hizashi's plans had been canceled. This time it was a radio event that had gotten canceled due to the rain, so Hizashi was already dressed up. Shouta admired him from the doorway of their bedroom. He'd kept the red button-up and the sleek jeans but ditched the shiny jacket, sunglasses, and tall boots for a long, soft white sweater, his normal prescription glasses, and what Hizashi called “sensible heels”. Shouta always rolled his eyes when he said that, but truthfully the small amount of heel on said shoes made his husband's already long, gorgeous legs look...

Shouta cleared his throat and stepped into the room fully. “Let me just grab my jacket and some shoes and we can go.”

Visibly perking up, Hizashi dragged his eyes away from his phone and towards Shouta, green eyes bright behind his plain glasses. “You sure I'm not springing this on you?” he asked, turning the screen off and sliding the phone into a pocket. Ever the worrier. “You're not too tired?”

Shouta rolled his eyes and stepped toward the front closet. “'Zashi, I definitely would have said something an hour ago when you called me if I was too tired.” He grabbed a thin jacket and slipped it on, catching an umbrella and toeing on a pair of flats. “And I already made reservations.”

“Wait. Really?” Hizashi stood, stretching his arms above his head before making his way over. Shouta tracking the way the light of the apartment traveled Hizashi's hair, down from its ridiculous style and left to hang. The blond idly straightened Shouta's jacket collar when he reached him. “That was fast. Where at?”

“That Thai place around the corner.”

“I thought you hated that place – too spicy for you.”

“I don't hate it, I just have limited options there,” Shouta said, hand rising up to tuck a stray hair behind his husband's ear. “Besides, I know you love that place. I can live with a plain rice dish for one meal.”

Hizashi blinked, quiet before his expression went fond, smile overtaking his face. He leaned down, heels adding just enough height to make a difference, and brushed their lips together in a soft kiss. Shouta closed his eyes with a sigh and pushed forward into it.

They stayed like that for a moment, lips sliding together gently. Shouta pulled back though, Hizashi trying to chase after him with a whine. “Come on, dork, or we'll be late.”

“One more kiss?” Hizashi begged, pouting. Shouta paused, then placed a quick peck on the corner of his pout. “Shoutaaaaa, that's not what I meeeant!”

“I'm sorry, did I marry a grown man or a child?” Shouta pinch the other's side, grinning at the yelp. With a shake of his head he walked toward the door, grabbing his wallet and keys and tossing the umbrella at Hizashi. “Here, since you're wearing those ridiculous shoes, you can carry that.”

“They are not ridiculous, they are sensible. How many times do I have to tell you that?” He was smiling though, popping the umbrella open when Shouta opened the door. “And I'm not a child! I just like kissing my husband.”

Shouta followed him out the door. “We can kiss more later,” he said as he locked up their apartment. “Maybe more if the rain doesn't make me too sleepy.”

“Oh, promises, promises~,” Hizashi sang, snickering when Shouta shot him a scowl. Wordlessly he took Shouta's hand – an action that curled the corners of the man's frown upwards – and they set off, rain pattering down around them as they chatted quietly.

As unexpected as it was, Shouta was glad Hizashi got the night off.
