Chapter 1: Constant

Chapter Text

"Never really expected this," his teacher, Yamada Hizashi, aka Present Mic, softly said, something really uncharacteristic of him. He'd huffed after that. He turned to Izuku. "You don't know what's happening, do you?"

Today was the first parent-teacher conference day, and the Midoriya mom and son duo were late to the meeting, making them the last one for his homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shota - Eraser Head - to meet. There was surprise at both the adult parties, but Izuku was just. Confused. They all just stood there, staring at each other, until Yamada had entered the room to get Aizawa. Except he was also surprised, and in a spur of the moment decision, decided to get Izuku outside with him instead.

Now, they sat across each other at the teacher's lounge.

Izuku quickly shook his head in reply. "Do they know each other? I mean, obviously. But... I mean... how come you two know my mom?"

"Inko-senpai... She was our senior during high school. She -"

"Y-you mean... mom went to U.A.?!"

"Yeah," he said as he grinned.

Hizashi watched as Izuku's mouth fell slack.

"Eraser and her used to date," he continued. "Or something like that."

Izuku felt his eyes bulging from his head. Hizashi expected him to shout, but instead, the young boy's voice was hoarse when he said, "Mom used to date Eraser Head?"

Hizashi laughed. "That's what you're most surprised about?"

"Mom dated a Pro-Hero!"

"Technically, we weren't Pro-Heroes then yet."

"She dated Eraser Head!"

See, most things are things Aizawa Shota doesn't like. However, he could tolerate said things. After all, he could totally and absolutely tolerate the noisy Yamada Hizashi, so why wouldn't he be able to tolerate other things?

Most specifically the interest he found on his schoolmate.

It wasn't as if it was love at first sight (it's something no doubt his friend would tease him on). It was just that, she was a constant. Hell, he didn't even know who she was then.

At eight in the morning, he would see her among the people waiting for the train. Their eyes would somehow always meet whenever they wait at the platform - and she'd smile at him (Why? Is it because they go to the same school?).

They'd both down at the same station, and walk towards U.A.

After class, he'd go with Yamada on wherever he'd set his head on going, and they'd part ways after. Shota goes to the train station at about six pm and she would already be there.

Every school day, it was like that for about a month. Until one evening, on the way home, it rained. And it wasn't one that he could usually just shrug off - it was a too strong downpour.

He huffed. He had no other choice but to wait it out. But someone tapped him on the shoulder, and beside him, was her.

"We could share, you know," she said shyly, looking everywhere but at him.

"It would be troublesome for you."

She looked up quickly, suddenly determined. "It wouldn't, really!" She insisted. "Since you know, you live just a little ahead from me, right? It'll be fine!"

He stared at her and she realized that their eyes have met, making her revert back to her nervousness again, opting now to look down.

"...it will be fine," she squeaked.

He looked at her long green hair while she bowed. He realized she had it down, unlike usual. She always wore it up.

He took the umbrella, opening it. They walk side by side. She talked. She talked on how she's usually seen him, on how she knew his house is a little on ahead. And he wondered, if maybe she'd watched him as much as he'd watched her.

When he'd dropped her in front of the apartment, he said, "You know, you look pretty with your hair up," and then turned away.

He didn't even need to see her to know how much she'd blushed.

"It looks like you're doing really well in school, Izuku! And you know, Shota-kun said -"

"Momwhy didn't you tell me?"

"...uh?"

"About you going to U.A. and dating a Pro-Hero and -"

"Izuku. One question at a time."

"Okay. U.A.?"

"I didn't think it was necessary to tell? I was a gen-ed. student, nothing special. I didn't try for the hero course. Plus I didn't actually finish at the school."

"...you didn't?"

"I had to go back home, to my hometown. Grandpa died, and no one's left to take care of Grandma. I transferred."

"And you broke Aizawa-sensei's heart."

"I did not break his heart! We weren't - we were never - I mean maybe I did - but who - who told... it's Hizashi-kun isn't it?"

"..."

"Our relationship seemed to be going that way, yes. But, we never quite reached it."

"..."

"None of us ever reached the confession stage."

"So.... how was it?"

"It's... unexpected."

"That it?"

"Yes, that's it."

"You finally had some closure or you still chasing after her?"

"She's married."

"She is?! Damn it."

"Why?"

"I thought I could try my hand at matchmaking again."

"She's my student's mother."
