Work Text:
A month ago to this day, Ochako and Tsuyu shared their first kiss, and they have been dating ever since. However, they haven’t come out to their classmates, so they don’t feel like they can do public displays of affection in the dorms and around the school. To be honest, all of this makes Ochako feel a bit depressed; she loves her girlfriend, and she wants to be open about it and gush about Tsu to Deku and Tenya and give Tsuyu hugs and kisses in public. But neither of them are out (Ochako as bi and Tsuyu as a lesbian) and Ochako doesn’t want to out her girlfriend when Tsuyu might not be comfortable doing so.
So one lunchtime, Ochako hurries over to Tsuyu (she’s sat next Tooru, both of them doing English homework), clears her throat awkwardly and says, “Asui, can I talk to you for a minute?”
Tsuyu looks up, frowning slightly (ever since they started dating, using each other’s surnames in public just sounds weird). But she nods. “Yeah, okay. Let’s finish this in a minute, ribbit.”
And as Tooru continues to do her homework alone, Ochako and Tsuyu walk out of the cafeteria. As they walk, Ochako wants to hold her hand, but she doesn’t, in case someone sees.
Reaching an empty classroom, Ochako nods her head to the side and says, “Let’s go in here.”
Still puzzled, Tsuyu follows her inside the classroom and shuts the door.
“What’s on your mind then?” Tsuyu says, reaching to hold Ochako’s hand now they are alone.
Now she’s actually about to say it, Ochako falters. She blushes, but manages to splutter, “Uh… do you want to come out to… to everyone else? Because then we can hold hands in public and—”
“Stop rambling, ribbit,” Tsuyu says, holding her other hand. “It makes you sound like Midoriya. But, yeah, I think we can try that.”
Her eyes go wide. “Really?”
“Yeah.” Tsuyu smiles. “It’d be nice to give you a kiss wherever we are.”
And as if to illustrate her point, Tsuyu presses a soft kiss to her lips.
And Ochako smiles, her stomach fluttering. They’re going to do this. They’re going to come out.
---
It turns out that Ochako and Tsuyu have contrasting ideas about what coming out is like. For Ochako, she imagined herself coming out by having quiet conversations with a couple of her classmates at a time, telling them she is bi before mentioning that she’s dating Tsuyu.
On the other hand, Tsuyu’s plan for coming out goes more like this…
“Excuse me, everyone!” Tsuyu says one evening when everyone sits in the common room, watching the TV or talking or doing homework. When she realises that too many people are paying more attention to the TV, Tsuyu uses her tongue to switch it off and says, “Hey, can you all listen to me?!”
Eventually, every student in the room looks at Tsuyu, who stands on her chair to get a better view of them all. And as Ochako covers her face with her hands and wonders if she is really about to do this, Tsuyu does it.
“I’d just like to, uh, ribbit… I’m a lesbian!” Tsuyu falters over her words, but eventually just blurts it out.
Ochako flushes deep red. When she looks up at Tsuyu, she finds her girlfriend as red as her, licking her lip awkwardly.
“Um… so, yeah,” she says, giggling weakly. “That’s what I wanted to tell you.”
Most people barely react. Tenya nods his head in acknowledgement, Momo smiles before going back to her homework. Kyouka offers a thumbs-up, smiling.
But some people go… well… a bit nuts.
“Awesome!” Denki cries, bolting to his feet and hugging Tsuyu.
“Thanks for telling us,” Tooru says, starling Tsuyu with a hug from behind.
And as all of this is going on, Tsuyu blushing but smiling, Ochako sits on the couch, blushing and wondering if it’s possible to die of embarrassment.
“Are you okay?” Izuku asks.
Ochako looks at him, forcing a smile. “Yeah. I think so.”
As she stands on her chair at the other side of the room, Tsuyu looks over at her. Without saying a thing, she tilts her head to the side in such a way that Ochako knows she is thinking, It went so well. Why don’t you join me?
And even though her heart pounds and her stomach clenches with anxiety, Ochako nods her head. She gets to her feet and says, “Um, I’ve… I’ve got something to say too.”
Even with Tsuyu’s comforting expression, the sight of everyone turning around to stare at her makes her blush even worse. But she clasps her hands together and says, “I… I’m bi. And…” She makes eye contact with Tsuyu, who nods. “Me and Asui are dating.”
And this is what truly sends everyone wild. Soon the pair are being swamped with hugs and she hears snapshots of many comments—
“So now there’s only four girls in the class who’re free?”
“Congratulations on your relationship, you two. I hope you make each other very happy.”
“Aww, you make such a cute couple.”
—But Ochako struggles to pay attention, because Tsu comes across the room too and soon the pair are hugging.
She can’t believe it. That went so well.
This is amazing!

The next day, Ochako and Tsuyu hold hands on their way to homeroom. In class, they exchange glances and smile. At lunchtime, they hold hands again and sit close together. And in the evening, they cuddle up together on the couch to watch TV. And when they share a quick kiss, no one complains.
This is so good. In fact, she wishes they could have come out sooner.
