Chapter Text
“Good morning, Bakugou!” Kirishima stood outside Bakugou’s dorm, sporting a grin that was much too wide for 8 o’clock in the morning.
“Morning,” Bakugou grumbled in reply. He opened the door wider, allowing Kirishima entry into his room.
Kirishima accepted the silent invitation, and set his bag down on Bakugou’s bed. He sat on the mattress, waiting while Bakugou finished gathering his books. “Did you take your medicine already?”
Bakugou paused, letting the notebook he had been holding fall into his bag. His eyes wandered upward. “Uh... fuck, did I?” He dropped his bag on the floor and opened his safe (Kirishima had pestered him to get one soon after his morning visits became an everyday occurrence- it’s just not safe to keep medications out in the open like that, after all). He checked the lids of all the bottles, then grunted. “Yeah, I took it.” He showed the bottles to Kirishima, who saw that they were last opened 20 minutes ago, according to the device on each lid. Bakugou shoved them back into the safe.
Satisfied, Kirishima picked Bakugou’s bag off the ground and handed it to him. “You’ve got everything in there, right?” Grabbing his own bag from beside him, he headed to the door. “Come on, we should get something to eat before class starts. It’s not good to take meds on an empty stomach!”
Bakugou did one last check of his room. Pencils, check. Water bottle, check. No books left behind... alright. Looks good. He turned off the lights, then closed the door.
In the hallway, Kirishima bumped his shoulder against Bakugou’s. “Let’s go.”
Their journey to the dining area on the first floor was silent. The dining area itself, however, was not. As Bakugou and Kirishima approached, some sort of commotion arose.
“ Ha ! What did I tell you?” Ashido’s voice rang throughout the room, bringing all other conversations to a halt. “There was no way the past three days were a coincidence!” She leaned back in her chair, and kicked her feet up onto the table. Sero and Kaminari groaned, and handed over 1000 yen each. Ashido took the bills with a confident smile, and shoved them into her pocket.
“Hey guys, what’s this all about?” Kirishima asked as he and Bakugou set their bags down by the table. Bakugou made a beeline for the pantry, not caring enough about the context to stick around.
Ashido put her feet back on the ground. “You and Bakugou have been coming to breakfast. Together . For the past three days .” She pointed her finger at Kirishima. “Something happened the other day after he totally blew up at Aizawa. Spill. Now.”
“Uh,” Kirishima looked around. Bakugou was pouring himself a bowl of cereal. “It’s... not really my place to explain it. I think that should be up to Bakugou.”
“Come on, man, you gotta tell us something. You’ve had barely any time for us recently! We’re your bros , bro!” Kaminari pouted, and Kirishima laughed gently.
“Yeah, I’m sorry about that. How about we all hang out today?” Kirishima stole a piece of bacon off of Sero’s plate, and bit into it. “But for real, it’s not up to me. If you’re so desperate, ask Bakugou.”
All three of them grumbled (Sero more so about his stolen bacon than anything else), but made no more mention of the matter.
Suddenly, a bowl slid in front of Kirishima, its contents coming dangerously close to spilling onto the table. A spoon clattered next to it. He looked up, eyes wide, to see Bakugou glaring- whether it was directed at him, the table, or nothing in particular, Kirishima couldn’t tell.
“Eat fast, Shitty Hair.” Bakugou sat down beside him with his own bowl of cereal, already shoveling spoonfuls into his mouth. He really was violent in even the most mundane activities.
Kirishima peered into the bowl in front of him, and saw the Cinnamon Toast Crunch floating in the milk- his favorite. He looked back over to Bakugou, who was wolfing down Cheerios like there was no tomorrow. Grinning, he ate his own cereal.
Ashido, Kaminari, and Sero looked on in wonder.
After school was over, the five of them found themselves in Kaminari’s room, playing Mario Kart on his Wii. They all sat on the floor, crowded around the TV. So far, Bakugou had come in first on every track (even Rainbow Road- his character never fell off the track even once). They were in the middle of Toad’s Factory, when Kirishima’s phone vibrated on the desk.
Bakugou nearly dropped his controller, and his character veered into the water. “Shit!” He tried to catch back up, but it was too late. Kaminari just laughed as his character overtook Bakugou’s, and finished the final lap in first place. Bakugou’s right leg began to bounce.
“Sorry, man, could you hand me my phone?” Kirishima nudged Bakugou, who was closest to the desk.
“You’re so goddamn lazy, Kirishima.” But despite his grumbling, Bakugou reached up and grabbed the phone. As he handed it over to Kirishima, his eye caught on the time lit up on the lock screen- 5:15. “Fucking- goddammit!” He banged his fist against the floor. Through the wall, Iida could be heard shouting at them to keep it down. “Oh, shut the fuck up, Four Eyes!”
“Bakugou, did you forget to take your afternoon dose?” Kirishima leaned in, wrapping an arm around his shoulders.
But Bakugou just shrugged him off. “You’re not my fucking mom, Shitty Hair.” He stood, and stormed out of the room. The door slammed behind him, leaving only the upbeat music from the TV to fill the silence.
After a few seconds, Ashido scooted over to Kirishima.
“Hey, is everything alright? What was that all about?” Ashido asked, her eyes wide.
Kaminari joined her at Kirishima’s side. “Yeah, and whaddya mean by ‘afternoon dose’? Since when does he take medicine? Bakugou isn’t sick, is he?”
Kirishima sighed, and shook his head. “No, no, he isn’t sick...and I guess I probably got too pushy or something. I don’t know.” He let a long, low, whistle. “Honestly, he probably doesn’t know either.”
Sero scratched his head and frowned. “Uh, I’m not sure what that means, but shouldn’t you go check on him?”
“Didn’t you hear him just now?” Kirishima gestured to the door. “I’m his boyfriend, not his mom. I doubt he wants me around right now.”
A beat of silence passed.
Kirishima glanced back up at his friends. Ashido had one hand covering her open mouth, jaw dropped, with the other hand clutching at imaginary pearls. Kaminari had nearly fallen over backwards, and Sero was rubbing his ears furiously.
“Uh, guys? What’s-”
Three voices interrupted him in unison.
“You’re his boyfriend?! ”
