A Day At the Lake

Summary:

Its hot and Uraraka somehow convinces Bakugou to go the lake to cool off! This work was from a discord server prompt!

Work Text:

“It’s sooo hot… I’m dying, Kacchan…”

The brunette dramatically slouched in her chair, fan pointed in her direction as another bead of sweat rolled down her temple. The blonde looked over towards the thermostat, not liking what he saw. Thirty-seven degrees Celsius.

He felt his own sweat gathering along his brow. “You’re talking to a fucking ticking time bomb with a hair trigger, Angelface. I think you’re gonna live.”

He cracked open the ninth container to fill for the day. No sense wasting, he figured as he scraped his hands on the rim to collect the sweat pouring into his hands. It will be useful eventually, especially if he threw one. Something this compact would definitely make a loud ‘boom’ and impressive shockwave to boot.

A high whine came out of Uraraka’s mouth as she panted and it took all of his will power to not roll his eyes. “Can we go do something? Anything? I can’t stand this heat.”

“Tch.” He gave her a stern glare, “We’re supposed to be laying low, not running around on a stupid holiday.” He wasn’t going to admit that getting out of the cramped apartment with shitty airflow would be great, but they had to stick with their orders.

“Not even a water park with disguises?” He sighed at her persistence and shook his head. She gave that stupid puppy dog pout of hers and he felt like he would melt under its intensity. “But it sounds so nice and refreshing, and you can’t explode if you are underwater!”

Resisting her face, he grumbled, “Nice try, Angelface, but we have to take off the disguises in the water and it’s too public.” He capped the current container of sweat and reached for the fan.

“H-hey! Don’t steal my only source of coolness!” Uraraka’s face contorted into an angry snarl and huffed. “Well, why not go to the lake then? There are less people there and plenty of secluded places.”

The blonde gave her a droll look, “You’re really pushing for this, aren’t ya?” She nodded fervently with a wide grin and a sparkle in her eye. He let out a long sigh, signaling the lost battle and she was immediately on the phone.

“I still can’t believe you fucking talked me into this.” Bakugou adjusted his large purple-tinted shades for the third time since they left the cab, sweat dripping down his nose. Uraraka insisted they take a transport with a disguise and somehow, she got him to wear a damn straw hat in this stupid heat. Bakugou turned back to the driver and handed him the fare, “Three hours should be fine.”

“Aww…,” The brunette pouted, “Only three hours? What if that’s not enough?” He groaned as she whined in his ear, feeling the hot breath as it brushed past his neck. The blonde twirled her away towards the nearby pathway with trees bowing over.

The cabby saluted and drove off down the winding forest road circling the giant lake as Bakugou followed the giddy heroine in front of him. Already he could feel the cool breeze coming off the water as they traversed the winding dirt path. He hoped that this spot was as secluded as Kirishima said it would be. Last thing they wanted was to be found outside after the hero association told them to stay underground.

She squeed happily as soon as they rounded the last corner and he couldn’t help but whistle in approval. Before them expanded a cozy cove of a crescent shaped sandbank enclosed mostly by lush trees and bamboo, just enough room for two to swim comfortably in the clear water.

“This is amazing!” Uraraka giggled, rushing towards the water at top speed. Bakugou watched her happily flit around like an excited puppy as he dug out a sand pit in the shade.

“I’m going to have a talk with Shitty-hair about how he knows this place.” The blonde snorted, seeing the brunette strip down to her bikini and swim shorts. Running by, she dropped her bag and clothes off next to him just as he finished shoveling sand. Then all he saw was a blur of baby blue and pink as she sprinted and cannonballed into the pool of water.

Bakugou took his shirt off, throwing it and his things with hers before he plopped down into his little shaded pit. Reveling in the strong breeze cooling his damp skin, he kept his eyes barely open out of pure vigilant habit. He didn’t even care that the sand was sticking to him, just the feeling of relief was lulling him to content. At least until he heard a splash.

“Come on, Bakugou! The water is really nice and you need to cool off!” She huffed a small bit when he shook his head slightly. “Fine, I warned you.”

Lazily, he cracked an eye towards the brunette, who was looking strangely at something above him. He didn’t even have time to react to the orb of water hovering above before it suddenly crashed down on his head.

The cool water splashed him with a refreshing shock and as it cascaded down, he could only stare at the giggling swimmer. Only slightly annoyed, he feigned rage as he launched himself towards the water with a small burst from his palms. “That’s how we wanna play? You’re on, Angelface!”

She yelped as he charged towards her, but he knew best that she could see right through his façade as she grinned at him challengingly. He wouldn’t admit it openly, but it was nice that someone understood him so well and he’d like to think he knew her just as much. Such as that gleam she gets in her eyes when she knows something he doesn’t or if she absolutely knows she is right in an argument, and that gleam reflected just as he reached her.

Instinct took over as he dodged a very large blob of water hurling down at him from a good distance above. Nothing could be helped as he jumped into the clear pool up to his thighs. When he looked back at her, several more smaller orbs were surrounding her half-submerged torso while she just grinned mischievously.

“Playing defense? You’re fucking going down!” Bakugou gave a shit-eating grin as he put his palm half in the water and let loose a decent explosion. Water sprayed in a jet towards Uraraka as she yelped again before he heard a bubbly laugh.

“Okay, okay! You got me!” Her voice was like a series of soft chimes as she held up a surrendering hand in front of her. “I got what I wanted anyway!”

He grinned again, “Sorry, Angelface. You poked the bear!” He started splashing her relentlessly and she tried to do the same, giggling all the same as they started a small-scale war. At least until she dove under the water to escape. “Oh no, you don’t!”

The blonde dove down after her as she kept swimming deeper to the bottom of the small cove. He felt the pressure change as he followed, doing his best to catch up. It was when she finally hit the sandy bottom that he grabbed her from behind around the torso.

Squirming around, the brunette gave him an odd pout and pressed her side into his stomach and he gave her a thumbs up. She nodded back before slapping him and herself, the familiar feeling of floating taking over. With the help of the zero gravity, they kicked their way to the surface.

Uraraka looked up towards the sun refracting down towards them, and Bakugou… He barely kept himself from trying to inhale water as he saw the sunlight surround her in an angelic aura. She was so determined, so strong, so beautiful.  He didn’t know why she tolerated him most days or decided to stick with him at all.

He couldn’t stop himself. One arm still wrapped around her waist, he raised his other hand and gently pressed a thumb across a sunspot on her jaw.

He felt her jump slightly as she turned to face him, a hidden question played across her face. The surface wasn’t too far away now, but that tug in the back of his mind didn’t care. Here he was at his most vulnerable, surrounded by nothing but her and water as his other fingers started to cradle her jaw.

Light reflected on her face, his light in the world between his hands as his eyes silently asked the same question hers did. That tug of a smile on the corner of her lips told him everything and he pulled her closer until they collided.

Passion pulsed through him as he eagerly kissed her lips, finding her doing the same. A fierce battle shared between the two until cold air finally hit them. Panting and gulping much needed air, Bakugou gazed into her honey eyes until she launched herself at him again with the same passion.

His mind blanked for a moment as their tongues collided. His eyes shut on their own as he lost himself to the kiss. Is this what it feels like to kiss a star?

When she finally let him go, he stayed in a short stupor until something in his mind clicked. He didn’t feel water.

Eyes widening, he looked around to see that he was easily ten meters from the water below, and she was giving a playful smile with her fingertips pressed together. “You deceiving little—I’m going to fucking get you back for this!”

His ears picked up a sound he hoped he didn’t hear. “I know! Rel—"

Bakugou clamped a hand over her mouth and swiped a hand away to hold in his. “Shhh. Not yet.” He whispered harshly at her, spinning his head around for the sound he heard. She looked at him with a glare until she heard it too, then nodded.

It was the sound of sobbing and cackling.

From this high, they could see the whole lake past their little cove and weren’t happy with what they saw. On the shore opposite of them was a group of swimmers on the beach huddled together. A large purple bubble encased them as two tall men clad in hoods were laughing nearby.

“Drop one of us, Angelface.” Bakugou’s voice was a bit more stern than he wanted but he gave her a nudge.

“What? We need to help them!” Her eyes widened considerably as she looked back and forth from him to the people.

The blonde squeezed her gently. “We can’t interfere. Now drop one of us. We need to slow our fall so we don’t draw their attention.” Uraraka glared at him with frustration. He softly squeezed her hand once more before letting go to wrap an arm around her. After a few moments, he felt gravity rush back to him as she whispered ‘release’ and he maneuvered them towards the sand, landing softly.

“Bakugou, I can’t stand here while they are in trouble.” She turned on him with hands on her hips.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed deeply. He wanted to help too, but unless they weren’t seen somehow, there wasn’t much they could do. “I fucking know.” Grumbling, she stomped off towards the opening in the trees to peek at the troublemaking idiots.

The blonde trotted behind her, pissed that they couldn’t even have a decent relaxing day at the lake without trouble. Following suit, he peered through the foliage towards the men.

“How can they be wearing hoods and not die?” She grumbled under her breath as one of the men threw a rock towards the whimpering people. It only bounced off the purple sphere to the ground. “Oh!” She hit her palm with a fist.

“Got a good idea, Angelface?” He looked warily at her. Often her ideas were somewhat dangerous, and he learned first-hand during their first fight together.

She grinned impishly, “Depends. Do you have any of those sweat canisters with you?”

Uraraka stretched out across the couch, resting her head on Bakugou’s lap. The day had greatly cooled down as the evening progressed, but a day at the lake was just what they needed.

“Today was so much fun! We should go to the lake again tomorrow.” She looked up to him with a cute smile that tugged on his chest, but he managed to roll his eyes.

“Nah, we stirred up too much fucking trouble.” He propped himself up using the arm rest and grumbled.

The brunette either didn’t hear him or ignored him as she turned towards the TV showing an updated news broadcast.

News reports from today’s earlier events at Kohei Lake are still being looked into, but we have now received a cellphone footage from one of the victims that was secretly videotaping the whole endeavor.” A very unstable video came on the screen showing a purple tint from the barrier and the two ‘villains’. They were laughing when suddenly a large blob of water suddenly appeared above them. Like magic, the orb burst and a second later there was an ear-shattering boom that shook the camera. The purple tint disappeared and once the dust settled, the two perpetrators were unconscious in the sand with some burn marks.

As you can see here, it looked to be an explosive water quirk that saved the day. However, authorities are still searching for the vigilantes and want to remind the public that vigilante actions are still illegal under the hero’s society guidelines. If you have any tips on who this person could be, please contact our anonymous tip line.”

Bakugou pushed the power button and with a small ‘blip’ the tv screen went black. “I still can’t fucking believe we even pulled that off.”

“Well, I still can’t believe that much sweat made that big of a bomb. You weren’t kidding when you said you were a ticking time bomb.” Uraraka gave a large yawn as she rolled over and curled up into the blonde’s side. “But we saved the day.”

He brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, “That we did, Angelface. That we fucking did.”

Looking at her serene face and soft closed eyes, Bakugou started to think that maybe going to the lake again may not be a bad thing.
