Fragile

Notes:

This was written for Kacchako Positivity Week 2018 — Day One: Fragile

Work Text:

She can hardly counter his attack before she was being flipped onto her back and a shooting pain courses throughout her entire body.

She coughed, trying to inhale air but her entire sternum ached as she held her torso. Bakugou’s presence is strong and overwhelming from behind her but Uraraka tried to focus on catching her breath.

It hurt; her entire body really hurt and as much as she tried to hold back the tears, she couldn’t help as they started to roll down her cheeks.

“Oi, Roundface—”

She turned her back to him again, hiding her face because she didn’t want him seeing that she was tearing up or crying. It was something that she hated the most, granted who liked when people saw others at their most vulnerable state?

Just when she thought Bakugou was going to explode on her and tell her to get up, she felt him plop down beside her, his back against hers. He was gentle, leaning some of his weight into her own.

“What are you doing?” She muttered after she caught her breath.

It had only been her second day of training with Bakugou and she still had so much to learn; she didn’t want to look weak in front of him or show him that she’s quick to give up. If there was one thing about Ochako, it was that she wasn’t one to give up.

She just needed to catch her breath.

“Taking a break,” he bit out and his voice held as much strength as his body did.

It made her shudder slightly while she wiped the back of her hand over her dirt and tear stained cheek. Once more the brunette sniffled, taking a deep breath of air before exhaling shakily and that’s when she felt Bakugou shuffle from behind her.

It was an awkward sort of silence between them, mostly coming from Bakugou because he had no sort of comforting skills towards another person whatsoever. Plus, he had never dealt with a crying girl; it made her lips turn upwards a bit thinking that he was being so quiet for once.

“Ya know,” he started and Ochako could feel his back vibrate against hers as he spoke. “If you can use someone’s own body weight against them, you’ll have a better advantage.”

She thought of how he tossed her over his shoulder, not only using her body weight but her quirk against herself and it made her cheeks burn.

He continued, “So think before you throw your body at someone without having a backup plan in mind, stupid girl.”

Bakugou’s voice was casual, soft yet reprimanding and it made Ochako’s shoulders relax a bit. She coughed again before leaning against his back, her head rolling back to rest on his shoulder and that’s when she smiled.

All of her classmates had warned her about training with Bakugou but she insisted that she would get better this way. Now he was sitting back to back with her, trying to comfort her in the most Bakugou of ways and it made her relax.

“You’re not fragile.”

The words made her entire being numb, her mind running through millions of different thoughts just trying to make sense of what exactly he meant. She could hardly feel her heart beating within her chest before she felt his head lean back and rest against hers.

“So have a little more confidence in yourself.”

Ochako intertwined her fingers together as she brought her elbows to rest on her knees. She was now smiling, having the words of her training partner fluttering through her mind and motivating her to want to try again because she wanted to do more, do better.

“Thanks, Bakugou,” she spoke through dried up tears and a half grin and she could feel him chuckle against her back.

“Don’t fuckin’ mention it.”
