Chapter 1: behind closed doors

Summary:

Endeavor wasn't what people assumed to be nice, or polite, but he knocked before he entered rooms that weren't his. he had three sons after all, he learned his lesson very early on when it came to doors and how to knock.

Todoroki took advantage of that, and that's why Endeavor was none the wiser to the girl that snuck into his house.

Notes:

so I don't go into depth about reader's quirk in the writing so I'm doing it here.

quirk: Heatwave

reader is able to turn her own body heat into heatwaves and flames. she can direct the heat/flames with either her eyes or her hands. she constantly has to stay warm to use it, and overuse of her quirk lowers her body temperature. she can tell where people are when she emits heatwaves and the radius from her body is 150 feet.
(basically, yous a human heating pad that is capable of spontaneously combusting things :) )

and I know todoroki is rude as all hell canonly, at first, so this is under the pretense that he's getting to the point where he's more considerate.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Todoroki would be lying if he said he hadn't experienced a lot at U.A: he made friends, used his left side, he even liked someone and they liked him back, all of him, so (y/n) said. she didn't give him any reason to not trust her when she said that, not when Todoroki felt at ease with her fingers in his hair, when light touches made their way to his scar. he'd stopped flinching at it a while ago, he expected it now. it was amazing really, how easily Todoroki had let his guard down for this girl, thrown caution to the wind and risked getting caught all for the sake of getting to kiss (y/n) or touch her. all of this to say, Todoroki Shouto was in a happy relationship with (y/n) (l/n) and nothing was coming between them. he wasn't scared to make that known either, even if their friends had no intentions of doing so in the first place.

the problem, Todoroki's one obstacle that he had no courage to stand up to, was his father.

Endeavor didn't and wouldn't know about (y/n), not because she had a weak quirk, not because Todoroki didn't think their relationship would last. it was deep-rooted fear Todoroki had grown up with when it came to angering his father, and because of that him and (y/n) were very careful. they snuck around, split apart if someone got too close to their hiding spot, and found each other at one another's house at ungodly hours of the night to see more of each other. but it was the moments that they were together that sometimes Todoroki didn't know what to do with himself. his hands were restless, he kept licking his lips, his foot tapped against the floor at the speed of light, and he couldn't keep his eyes off of (y/n). he was supposed to be packing to go to Heights Alliance, and with the help of (y/n) it should have been easy, but Todoroki was distracted and Endeavor was across the house. "(y/n)..." she looked up from the box she had just taped shut, over her shoulder at heterochromatic eyes. thunder rolled outside from the summer storm, but Todoroki saw the sun shining, or maybe that was (y/n)'s smile as she crawled over to him.

"did you melt the tape again? I told you to use your right hand, although I'm no better..." Todoroki felt his heart stop at the embarrassed smile on her face as (y/n) held her hand up, tape melted to her delicate fingers. although, that wasn't Todoroki's problem right then, it just happened to be her smile, the childlike eyes that drank in cloud filtered light as she looked at him. his problem was the girl herself, specifically, as to why the fuck he hadn't kissed her yet.

he was going to change that.

Todoroki brought his right hand up and froze the tape on her fingers until it shattered, tiny little snowflakes fluttering to the tatami floors as he slipped his fingers in between (y/n)'s. she sighed when his left hand snuck under the edge of her shirt--well, his shirt, (y/n) had swiped it out of his drawers the night before--and Todoroki pulled her into his lap gently. "is this...are you okay with this?" even as he asked, Todoroki traced his fingers up her side, over the soft curves of her stomach as he listened to a quiet laugh. warm hands encased his face, pulling two toned eyes to look at the beautiful girl on top of him, and Todoroki found himself soothed by the heat on his cheeks. "of course I am, Shouto. we talked about this." indeed, they had, but that didn't stop him from asking. (y/n) was his first girlfriend after all, he wouldn't fuck this up by doing only what he wanted, which was to kiss her without warning and squeeze her waist tighter and just get closer to (y/n), as if being chest to chest wasn't enough.

"can I kiss you?" (y/n) watched his eyes train on her lips as she smiled, leaned closer to him just so their lips brushed against each other. Todoroki realized absentmindedly that she smelled like...him, the body wash he used and the cologne that normally stuck to his clothes. "yes, Shouto." Todoroki closed the distance, wrapping his arms carefully around her waist as he kissed her almost feverishly. (y/n) smiled into the kiss as she closed her eyes, Todoroki only touched her like this when he was restless.

Todoroki laid her down gently, holding himself up with one arm and the other tracing down his shirt that (y/n) wore. he would stay like this all day if he could, held close to (y/n) by the arms around his neck and swallowing every single sound that left her lips, traveled across her tongue that Todoroki prodded with his own and snaking around his brain, holding him prisoner to feelings he didn't normally like to admit to having. but (y/n) was stunning and his and only an idiot wouldn't think she was amazing, and Todoroki was no idiot. (y/n) was much like Shouto although she didn't mind admitting her feelings. she thought she was lucky enough to even be in the same classroom as the boy on top of her, and now she could wear his clothes and touch him and kiss him. and he was sweet too, as he carefully danced his fingers over her thighs and squeezed, just tight enough to show (y/n) he enjoyed this. only an absolute fool would take this, take Todoroki for granted, and (y/n) was no fool.

which is why both of them heard the heavy footsteps getting closer, and closer to his room.

"is that Endeavor?" fuck, it was, but Todoroki didn't want to let go of her. he was just getting to slipping his fingers under her shorts, and he almost didn't stop, but-

too close, those footsteps were too damn close and Todoroki sucked air between his teeth as (y/n) sat up on her elbows to crawl out from under him. one heavy footstep, and she snatched her phone off of Todoroki's dresser. two, and Todoroki stood up to help her in his closet. three, four, five, six, and Endeavor was right outside his door as Todoroki kissed (y/n) one last time before shutting the closet door. Endeavor knocked on his door, and Todoroki rolled his eyes as he opened the door.

"Shouto, come eat. we're leaving for U.A in an hour." Todoroki's eye twitched as he nodded, but Endeavor didn't leave. why the fuck wasn't he leaving? Todoroki watched his blue eyes trace his room, as if Endeavor was suspicious that someone else was there. (y/n) held her breath when she felt the heavy weight of eyes on the closet door, he couldn't know she was here, right? Endeavor never knew, Todoroki was careful of that, but he was still in front of his door and for some reason he wasn't...leaving...oh.

Todoroki shivered at the soft heat crawling up his back, (y/n)'s quirk. she must've been scared, scared enough to let the careful control of her quirk to slip and caress the room. Endeavor felt it too, and he took steps past Todoroki into his room, glancing over box after box. Todoroki held his breath as Endeavor stopped in front of the closet. he couldn't know, there was no way he could, but then again, Endeavor wasn’t the number 2 hero for kicks, and it showed when he threw the closet door open to...nothing. nothing was there, and he scrutinized the empty space for a while before he closed the door again, walked away and past a terrified Todoroki, although the only thing to show for it was the little cloud of steam that left his lips.

"don't be late." his bedroom door closed, and Todoroki stood still in the middle of his room even after he left, until he realized the closet was empty. he opened the closet door again, and sure enough there was nothing on the floor, and just to humor himself Todoroki looked up to the ceiling, where (y/n) was breathing heavy with her hands and feet pressed against the walls to keep herself up there. she huffed a laugh as Todoroki looked at her like she was crazy. "is he gone?" Todoroki found enough sense to nod, and (y/n) dropped down gracefully as she sighed, exhaling all of her fear before she stood up.

"guess I should leave, huh?" for lack of words all Todoroki could do was follow (y/n) with his eyes as she walked around the room.

"he won't come back, just-"

"Shouto, you and I both know that he will come back, and if he finds me he's going to hurt you." he swallowed his next words and looked at the floor as she slid her sweatshirt over herself and swung her bag over her shoulders. she...wasn't wrong, but Todoroki didn't want her to leave, even if he'd see her in an hour at Heights Alliance he wanted (y/n) with him now. and it was only the warm hand on his cheek that made Todoroki look up at soft, sympathetic eyes before (y/n) kissed his forehead. "I'll see you in an hour, okay? I'll even help you arrange your dorm room."

"...okay." (y/n) smiled, hugged Todoroki tightly and laughed quietly when he refused to let her waist go, but she got him off of eventually, and with one last wave he watched her slide the door open to his balcony. watching (y/n) swing her leg over the rails and sliding down the rain slick bars with her hood on made Todoroki add to the list of reasons to resent his father. maybe, just maybe, if he told Endeavor, (y/n) could come in through the front door instead of climbing a two story house.

it was only the sound of Endeavor shouting through the house that made Todoroki think that was impossible. his father was too dangerous for that.

Notes:

hehe I'm grinding on this series. I was gonna be AWFUL and wait like a week to post this...but today was stressful and I'm an impatient brat :) this one is a little different than the last one bc its an established relationship, but it has its motif like the last one.
