He hears the soft sound of Yoongi approaching. Jimin hides by the door of the train car, ready to scare him.

The footsteps stop and he hears a sigh. “Jimin. You can’t scare a ghost.” Yoongi peaks his head in, making eye contact with the now pouty dancer.

“You always do this, hyung. Just let me have it this one time.” Jimin pouted even harder until Yoongi rolled his eyes.

Work Text:

October 13, 2015

Jimin steps out of his apartment, making sure the door was properly locked behind him before heading out of the building. He steps out, breathing in the crisp night air before treading down the familiar path. He toyed with the small box in his hand while humming to himself.

Jimin tried his best to always bring Yoongi something, even if it was just a drawing he doodled in class while his professor was rambling about his marriage problems. Yoongi always seemed to appreciate it. He knew he did. Despite giving Jimin a monotoned thank you before tucking the gift away, he always caught a small smile tugging at the corner of Yoongi's lips.

Turning into the alleyway that held the passage for the underground subway, Jimin was feeling the bit of nervousness he always gets when he visits. Being the good kid he is, Jimin doesn’t like doing things he knows he shouldn’t be doing. For example, trespassing. He is aware that he shouldn’t be in a rundown, abandoned subway, yet here he is. Call him a whipped man, he’d do just about anything for Yoongi.

Jimin quickly ducks into the passage that lead down to the train station. He stayed as quiet as possible, keeping all his weight on his toes. Once he’s safely underground, Jimin tried his best not to skip into the empty train car. He was just so excited to see Yoongi, especially since tonight actually had meaning.

He looks at his watch and smiles since Yoongi should be arriving in one minute. He was always on time, never late.

“I need to make up for what I’ve done wrong in the past, Jimin-ah. Therefore, I’m punctual. I don’t want to keep you waiting. You waste enough time on me as is.” Yoongi would state everytime Jimin commented on it.

Jimin’s reply would always be, “Don’t be ridiculous, hyung. You’re not a waste of time. I enjoy your company.”

In the midst of his reminiscing, he hears the soft sound of Yoongi approaching.

“You have it every time. Brat.” He murmured, before taking a few steps back and clearing his throat. “Jiminie! Your hyung is here to see you? Where are y-“

“Boo!” Jimin yells and waits a second for Yoongi’s delayed monotoned scream. Jimin smiles, finally satisfied, and hands over the box

Yoongi pins him with a look, the small box clasped in his hands. “Poor Jimin-ah doesn’t even realize that he is supposed to receive gifts on his birthday. Not give them.”

“Technically not my birthday anymore.” Jimin pointed out and took a seat on one of the worn down cushioned seats. “So I am allowed to give gifts.”

“Well it’s not my fault you ditched me to go out with your friends. We could’ve done a proper birthday down here. You, me, and all the other ghosts that roam around in the subway.” Yoongi chuckles, taking a seat next to Jimin. He doesn’t even react when Jimin scoots closer at the mention of other ghosts.

Jimin lightly slaps Yoongi’s arm. “Stop making me feel guilty. I would’ve cancelled, but Tae had already made reservations and I know he would’ve been upset if I said no.”

“Yeah, yeah. Excuses, excuses.” Yoongi waves Jimin off. He opens the box and stares at the little slice of cake.

Jimin blushed a bit at the small portion. “Jungkook ate a lot of it. This was all I could save before he destroyed the cake. Sorry.”

Yoongi didn’t say anything, instead he swiped his finger in the icing and licked it off. “How was the party?”

Jimin stared at Yoongi, biting the inside of his cheek. “It was… fun. We did karaoke and got fried chicken from your favorite place.” He was hesitant to tell him. Jimin didn’t want Yoongi feeling left out. “Would have been better with you though, hyung.” He added in, meaning every word.

“Another time.” Yoongi states, even both of them know that he won’t be able to make it next year either. He never will.

“Another time.” Jimin repeats, laying his head on Yoongi’s shoulder and just staring ahead of them.

“Happy birthday, Jiminie.” Yoongi whispered into the silent air.

Jimin closed his eyes and smiled softly to himself. “Thank you, hyung.” He whispered back.
