Work Text:
Forest green. That was the best way to describe them. Green came in many different shades, the most of any color. Yet looking at these the forest came to mind.
It was a subdued green, nothing obnoxious like a neon so vivid it hurt your eyes. But still bright, brighter than the brown hued greens of muddy waters. Yet it held a different depth from the blue greens found in crashing waves. Equally deep, it told a different story. A story full of life and nature and peace. Of the fresh smell after a shower in spring, of the peaceful not so quiet of a wooded area, full of life. They were a place to escape to when you’ve had too much of life, a place to escape your own head if you wanted. Somewhere to put the world in perspective, to realize how big the world truly is and how mundane things that may get you down don’t worry all that much in the long run. He could get lost in these greens forever.
Instead, he noticed how the green clashed nicely with the pink surrounding it. Another color with so many hues, this pink was warm, like the fading colors of a sunset. Sweet as a pink lemonade, yet filled with passion like a blooming rose. More orange in tone then red, it made the green look ever brighter. Two colors so different shouldn’t look so nice together, yet it brought a smile to his face.
What really tied everything together was the expression on the face he was so lost in. The eyes, those bright forest greens, were a clash of so many emotions it made his head spin. Nervousness, excitement, a bit of exhaustion, and embarrassment, if the blush that covered his face and chest wasn’t enough. However, the emotion that shone the most was pure adoration, love even.
He wondered what he looked like in this moment. Did he have the same flush as Izuku did? Did his eyes shine as bright? What did his face reveal?
Despite what people think, he’s actually very emotionally intelligent; it’s this intelligence that allows him to keep his neutral expression most of the time. And he knew Izuku shared this intelligence, at least when it came to him. He could read ever twitch of the lip, the changes in his eyes, even how his body language altered ever so slightly when reacting to certain things. This was both amazing and terrifying.
Amazing because he had never had someone who knew him so well. Even Fuyumi and his mother had a hard time interpreting some of his more subtle shifts.
Terrifying because Shoto had never let anyone get so close to him before. Terrified that Izuku may look at him one day and see something that scared him, leaving Shoto alone again. Even with his lover currently straddling him after an intense make out session these fears distract him, all of the what if’s pulling him from this perfect moment.
But Izuku knows Shoto, knows when he’s lost in his own mind, and he pulled him back with a sweet kiss and tight embrace. “What are you thinking about?” he asked, trailing small kisses down his neck and across his chest.
“You’re eyes are beautiful.” It’s the first thing that he thinks to say. Izuku knows his fears yet he’s stayed anyway, so why ruin the moment by repeating himself. Besides, it’s Izuku's eyes that calm him when he gets like this, so wrapped up in everything that he feels like he’s drowning.
Izuku paused his ministrations before shoving his face in the crook of Shoto’s neck, groaning softly.
“Sho, you just can’t say things like that! My brain can’t process it and I feel like I shut down.”
With each word Izuku pulled him back to the moment and Shoto became more aware of himself; the weight of Izuku on his abdomen, the warmth of his breath on Shoto’s neck, the fingers trailing along his arm aimlessly. He smiled, running his fingers through those thick curls.
“I guess you’ll have to deal with it, because it’s true.” Getting back into this rhythm feels natural, and Izuku's pouting face adds to this moment. Nothing should be that cute. Shoto kissed his nose before pulling him closer and Izuku placed his head on his chest once more, like that’s where it’s supposed to be.
Shoto doesn’t know if his fears will ever really leave him. He doesn’t know if Izuku will stay with him forever. But he does know that here, right now, he could get lost in those green eyes and finally feel at peace, if just for a moment. And he’d be happy with that.
