    Summary

"[He] is the most perfect and most obedient tool which mankind ever possessed! Tonight you will see [him] succeed before the upper ten thousand. You will see him [bleed]." - Metropolis

The late 19th century. The peace in Lieutenant Anderson's small town has been disturbed by unsolved cases of mutilation and murder. As it's the nature of man, his colleagues suspect a group of carnival performers that has moved into the deserted mansion outside town for the winter. But with no lead, Hank and the detectives Reed and Miller can only visit inofficially and keep their eyes open. Conveniently, sleazy Elijah Kamski, his wife Chloe, and their friend Amanda Stern open the house for one of their shows for one night.

Strange, obscure, but utterly harmless. Hank doesn't share the prejudices of some people and an unexpected encounter in a small storage room distracts him from the case for good. Charmed by a certain cute face, Hank is unaware that this encounter will turn this young man's world upside-down. It might have been love at first sight but it's never that easy. Especially when Hank must not know that the show's greatest attraction, the emotionless, pain-resistant man-machine, wasn't just an illusion.
