Rohan sat in his studio, balls of paper surrounding him, overflowing in his trashcans. He tapped his foot impatiently as he stared at the wall in front of him, pen in hand and tongue slightly out while thinking. It had been a few months since his last fashion label of ‘Pink Dark Boy’ had been released. Summer was around the corner and knew he still had at least three more lines to release this year, but nothing was coming to his mind. He balanced the pen between his nose and mouth, tapping his foot. He heard footsteps behind him and the shucking of paper going into a bag.
“Can’t come up with anything, Mister Rohan?” He heard his intern ask.
“Not really, Koichi, I’ve been trying to come up with something new and grand for this new line. Something to make people look in awe,” Rohan explained.
“But all your works put people in awe,” Koichi replied as he put the garbage bag in the corner of the studio. “Also, I’m not a maid, you know?”
“I never asked you to clean up my mess,” Rohan chuckled “You just started doing it on your own.”
“I thought it was part of my internship.”
“Really? Well, it is now,” Rohan said and smiled at Koichi. Koichi’s cheeks puffed from frustration and Rohan ruffled his hair “You’re a great kid, Koichi.”
Suddenly the studio door swung open and the door whacked against the wall, Reimi came rushing in with bunches of magazines in her arms, almost dropping them from so many being held. She dropped them on the lone cleared coffee table, spreading them around. Her face held lots of excitement as Rohan and Koichi walked over and stood over the magazines.
“What’s this?” Rohan asked.
“It’s our next opportunity, Rohan!” Reimi exclaimed. She held up a magazine excitedly, a picture of a very built man dressed in shiny bell bottoms and ocean-like makeup was posing in front of a newly built beach resort with words of ‘Famous Merman model, Jotaro Kujo, enjoys stay at new beach resort! Says ‘most beautiful aquarium he’s seen!’ Reimi stared at Rohan but the longer he didn’t react, the more her smile faded to annoyance.
Rohan looked at her judgingly, deadpanned, “You’re joking, right?”
“What?” Reimi held the magazine downwards “Does it look like I’m joking?”
Rohan snickered and then broke out into a full laughing episode, almost unable to breathe at some points. “Reimi-“he said between laughs and wiping his eyes “-Reimi, honey, please. You must be joking! The merman modeler? The one who’s always dressed in those lavishly shiny bellbottoms, with the huge coat and tight shirts?” He picked up one of the magazines and stared at it trying not to laugh anymore. “This guy? Isn’t he the goody goody that donates to like ocean conservation organizations, as if they’re really doing anything, and will only do shoots in ocean-themed wear? How pretentious can you be?”
“Says you,” Reimi mumbled. “Listen, Rohan, as your manager you have to at least listen. This is an opportunity for you, for us, we can go into new territory! On top of that we get into that territory with one of literal hottest models! Could you imagine the world’s biggest label, Pink Dark Boy, with the famous merman model, the model voted hottest man of the year for the last three years?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Rohan sighed and put on his thinking face, “I don’t know, Reimi, I’m not big one the whole. . . Ocean theme.”
Reimi placed her hand excitedly on the magazine Rohan’s holding and looked him in the eyes with a smile, “And that’s why we should take u the offer! His managers spoke with me and thought it would be a wonderful idea for a popular label like yours to work with a famous guy like him!” She gently took the magazine from Rohan and flipped through the pages, pages and pages of this Jotaro Kujo posing in front of basically anywhere water is. Even him holding some sea animals. “Apparently, it’s rumored that he also helps in aquariums and even release some of the wildlife back into the sea. Some say he’s even been thinking of getting his own just to preserve endangered species!” There was silence as Rohan stared at the pages. “Rohan are you even listening?”
“Yeah, I heard. So, he’s a goody two shoes that has some ocean obsession yeah, yeah,” Rohan said. He sighed and set down the magazine.
“I know I’m only an intern, but I’d love to see how you take on new challenges Mister Rohan!” Koichi cheered. “Seeing how you come up with new lines is always exciting.”
Rohan smiled softly at Koichi. “Well, I guess I can’t turn it down then,” he said warmly and ruffled Koichi’s hair. Koichi let out a chuckle and Reimi smiled.
“So you’re gonna do it?” Reimi asked excitedly. “Like for real?”
Rohan looked away with puffed cheeks “Yeah, I’ll do it, but not because you guys asked me to. I just need a new challenge.”
“Sure,Rohan,” Reimi chuckled. “I’ll let his managers know you’re new line is going to be ocean themed then.”
