Chapter 1: Slip up
Chapter Text
The 1-A dorm building was silent, of which Aisawa was grateful. Midnight had long since passed, and he was ready to call it quits in the grading so he could go to bed. Lord knows he needs.
Sighing heavily in exhaustion, he pinched the bridge of his nose. ‘What in the world goes through this boy's head when he does his work.’ His question would forever remain unanswered as he brought his red pen down to the paper, marking the last question wrong and flipping back to the front of the packet. ‘Kaminari gets yet another D.’
With a roll of his eyes, the pro hero moved on to the next packet, which happened to be Iida's. ‘oh thank god.’ Was the only thought in his head as he graded the boys paper in record time, giving him 90 overall.
Just as he was reaching for the next one, a movement on one of the camera Monitors in the corner of the room caught his attention. Thanks to the new heightened security at UA, cameras were placed in the dorm building. Incase of an emergency, it would make it easier for the pros to pinpoint the problem.
As the movement continued, he glanced up from his stack of papers, and furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. It was nearly 3 in the morning, meaning none of his students should be up. He pushed his tired body off the couch and moved closer. What he saw on the screen caused his blood to turn to ice.
“What the hell…”
There, on the roof of the dorm building, stood none other than Izuku Midoriya. The boy was on the edge, shoeless and in his pajamas. His back was turned to the camera.
Thoughts passed through Aizawa's head like rapid fire until finally settling on one terrifying thought. Instead of dwelling on it, he was turning on his heel and slamming his way out the door.
Thank god he kept his capture gear with him.
In no way was this the first suicide attempt he'd witnessed, but it was still just as jarring. Never had it once been someone he knew. He never had to talk one of his own students away from death, and he had never wanted it to happen. But here he was.
After sprinting to the roof access door, he shoved it open and took the stairs three at a time. It seemed to take forever for him to reach the top. When he finally did, he was careful enough to simply ease the door open.
If he startled the boy, it could mean bad things.
Stepping onto the concrete roof, he closed the door as one normally would, hoping the sound would alert the boy of his presence, but not enough to not startle him.
It seemed to succeed as Izuku tensed, hands clenching in loose fists at his sides. Aizawa fought the urge to sigh in relief. Instead, he cautiously stepped forward. His normally silent footstep rang loud on purpose, giving a wordless warning that he was approaching.
Aizawa stopped a few feet behind the boy, reaching up to grab his capture gear in a tight grip. Should he not succeed in talking him away from the edge, it could be used as a last ditch effort to save the boy.
“Midoriya…. I'm just gonna stay here and talk with you for a bit. Okay?”
Shouta internally cursed himself for his awkward words. He never had to deal with this part of the situation. Usually, he was the one to catch the ones that jump. Present Mic was the man that almost always convinced the person to get down. The voice hero was a very influential man. Due to the nature of his quirk and his talk show, he was the one always called in for the job. Aizawa on the other hand, was not.
Izuku shuddered, a sob tearing from his throat. The boy's breathing was fast and erratic and his body shook violently.
“Everything is fine, sensei. You can go.” his voice wavered and cracked and Izuku slid forward ever so slightly.
Shouta tensed in preparation, but otherwise kept calm. “Midoriya…. Talk to me kid. This isn't the right choice, and you know that.” he paused, mouth tugging down in a harsh frown. He let concern leak into his next words. “Izuku, think about it. Please.”
“You wouldn't understand.” Was the only response he got, the boy spoke louder this time, but still refused to turn around.
Sensing that the situation might not turn out well, and knowing his lack of skill on the subject, he slowly reached into his pocket and withdrew his phone. Being as quiet as possible, he typed out a message to the group chat setup for the staff of UA.
Eraserhead: Anyone available needs to get to class 1-A's dorm building. Now. Don't panic.
He hit send, double checking to make sure his ringer was off . Last thing he'd want is to tip the boy off that he was getting help.
“Then help me. Make me understand.” His voice unwillingly took on a pleading tone. Despite what people might think, he cared about his kids. They had been through a lot together. And seeing such a bright boy, standing inches away from death yet again, was not something he ever wanted to witness. His heart clenched painfully in his chest at the thought.
His phone buzzed in his hand, but he ignored it for the time being. There were more pressing matters then answering their silly questions.
Izuku’s body rocked from the force of his sobbing and he teetered closer to the edge. He opened his mouth to give a choked out reply “I…. I can't…” The green haired kid lifted his arms lifted to wrap around his stomach in an almost protective manor.
Shouta's eyebrows pinched in confusion, continuing to ignore the now frantic buzz of his phone. “Why not?” his question was said gently. As if speaking to a frightened animal.
“I'm not allowed…I can't ruin someone else's life… So please, just go away.” his voice, despite being withdrawn, held a bitter tone that seemed to be aimed at himself. “I'm not worth your trouble. I should have done this a year ago, and just gotten out of the way.” He sobbed out, shuffling closer to the edge to where his toes hung off. “All might shouldn't have trusted me. Not with this... Please tell him i'm sorry. I'm sorry for disappointing him, and for being a failure. There are so many people better suited for this. Just not me… I shouldn't have said yes… I shouldn't be here.”
Shouta had taken the time to click his phone back open and scan the messages as the boy spoke.
Thirteen: What seems to be the problem, Eraser?
Of course they answered first. Thirteen always seemed to be the first one.
Snipe: Yeah. Is there an emergency
we should know about?
Ectoplasm: Eraserhead?
All Might: Why is everyone awake so early in the morning?
Present Mic: I'll come, but can you please tell us what's going on?
Midnight: You don't think it's another villain attack, do you?
Nedzu: That's highly unlikely. Since the few incidents we've had this year, security has been upgraded farther than anything. Not even a fly could get in without me knowing. I can assure you that much.
Cementoss: Sir, can't you look at the camera feed to see what's going on?
Nedzu: Indeed i can! What a wonderful idea.
All Might: I hope it has nothing to do with the students. They've been through enough as it is.
Recovery Girl: I swear if that boy of yours has another injury, I'll quit.
Nedzu: It's worse than you all might think. Midnight, Present Mic and All Might. Head to the roof of the 1-A dorms immediately. It seems one of our students is going to jump.
Snipe: You need us on stand by?
Nedzu: Only Recovery Girl. The rest of you hold tight for now.
Thirteen: Who is it, if i may ask.
Nedzu: Izuku Midoriya.
Shouta suppressed a sigh of relief. They were coming to help. Who knew when they'd get there, but at least he wasn't alone in this anymore.
Dragging his full attention back to Midoriya, Aizawa replied. “I don't know where you get on that you've ever messed up. You show a lot of potential, Midoriya. You're going to be a great a hero. I might not truly understand what you mean when it comes to All Might, but i do know that he adores you. Your like the son he never had.” Shouta tried not to grit his teeth at the confession he was about to throw out. “Hell, i see you the same way. Despite everything, you always try your best. You never give up and you never fail to help people.” Now that it was out, he couldn't stop. As invested in his rant as he was, he missed the door behind him being eased opened. “Kid, please. Trust me on this. Be strong, like I know you are. You have a right and a reason for being here. Don't doubt yourself, after you've made it this far.”
A hand resting on his shoulder broke him out of his rant and caused him to glance over his shoulder. His tired, worried eyes meet the sad gazes of Present Mic, All Might and Midnight. Present Mic gave Aizawa a frown, nodding his head over to the shuddering form on the edge. The boy still had his back to them.
Hizashi took a hesitant step forward as Aizawa stepped back to join the other two heros. Present Mic stepped loud, making sure his footsteps were rang out enough for the boy to hear. “Hey little listener,” his voice was quieter than anyone present had ever heard. “I’m not sure what's going on through your head right now, but i need you to focus on my voice. Okay?”
Apparently, the new voice startled him enough to spin him around. It took every ounce of self control the heroes had to not flinch. Heavy purple bags sat under his red-rimmed eyes like bruises. His skin was pale, and fresh tears rolled fast down his freckled cheeks. All in all, they had never seen him like this. To see a once smiling face so sad…. It was jarring to say the least.
His dull green eyes fluttered over there faces in a panicked sort of way, until finally settling on ll Might’s.
He froze.
Izuku's eyes grew wide, his breathing stopped and his shaking picked up.
At seeing the boy in such a disheveled state, All Might frowned, reaching out a skinny hand as if to pull the boy away from the edge despite not being close enough to him. “My boy….” Although quiet, the two words still rang clear across the rooftop.
Izuku's head shook back and forth, gaining speed as it all seemed to sink in. He opened his mouth, as if to speak. “A-All might… I'm so sor-” his Apology was cut off as he instinctively took a defensive step back.
Right off the edge.

Notes:
Im so sorry that this took as long as it did. And i also want to apologize for how short this chapter is. I'll try and get the third on eout as soon as possible.
Chapter Text
As Midoriya’s small body slipped over the edge, everything seemed to freeze. The world held its breath, and All Might was the first to slip out of it.
“YOUNG MIDORIYA!”
The cry snapped Aizawa out of his own shock and his capture gear whipped out as he practically lunged for the edge of the building. The white cloth flew over the edge of the building, Aizawa right behind it. The second he could see over the roof, his capture weapon was winding tightly around the frail body of his kid.. The added weight caused his body to lurch forward, nearly sending him over the edge. A strong hand whipped out to grip his own, quickly followed by two more sets of hands. Everything seems to still. They all held their breath for a moment.
The resounding silence was only broken by the soft sounds of Midoriya crying, trembling where he was, mere feet from the ground. Aizawa forced his scarves to return, bringing his student up with it. The Pro’s that held tightly to him helped pull his own body back over the edge.
A few agonizing seconds passed before the boy was back safely on the ledge, gasping out shaky sobs, his body rocking violently from the force of it. The second his capture gear had fully retreated, Aizawa practically threw himself at the boy, pulling him into a safe embrace.
The two stayed that way for a while, them all trying to calm themselves from the adrenaline induced panic. Realizing they were still close to the ledge, Aizawa dragged them both back, scooting across the roof with a new purpose. The terrified cries of his student was almost enough to distract him from everything else.
At this point, Midoriya was hyperventilating. The shock of it all had caught up to him and the gravity of the situation seemed to slam down on his shoulders with a crushing weight. Aizawa pulled his face away from forest green curls, and he stared up at the other three people on the roof. All Might was crouched next to them, hand resting on Izuku’s back. His sunken eyes were brimming with tears, mouth turn down with sadness. Present Mic stood back a little from the group, hands tangled in his long blonde hair. He was disheveled, tears falling his eyes. His gaze remained locked on the rooftop. Midnight was shaking, hands clasped over her mouth to hide the sobs he knew where spilling out of her mouth. It seems the boy had a bigger impact to the heroes then what Aizawa initially thought. Hell, he even felt the sharp sting of tears in his own eyes.
Aizawa frowned, grip tightening on the boy. “Midnight.” he called out softly, nodding down at the still distressed boy. Said women's brows pinched in confusion for a moment. It didn't take long before a look of understanding passed and she stepped closer, lowering herself in front of the boy. Aizawa, with the help of All Might, pulled the Midoriya’s head up gently.
Midnight pulled her sleeve back the second his head was lifted, and she released her quirk.
Almost instantly, he was out. The exhaustion from the situation caught up with him, paired with the quirk was enough to put the boy out of commission. He went slack in Aizawa’s arms, and the older man shifted to stand with the teen. All Might stepped forward, eyes locked onto his successor. “I don’t understand..” Aizawa felt a sense of protective anger surge through him, instinctively tightening his grip on the boy. The frustration faded at the former symbol of peace’s next words. “How did I never notice how much he was hurting.”
Present Mic reached out, setting a supportive hand on his shoulder. “None of us did, All Might. Don’t blame yourself for anything.” despite saying that, Aizawa could hear the guilt that weighed heavy on his voice. He felt his own guilt well up, especially since he was the boy’s homeroom teacher. He even lived in the same building as Midoriya, but he still never noticed.
Midnight took action first, turning toward the door. She paused long enough to call out over her shoulder “Come on. I tried not to dose him with too much, so we should go get him to Recover Girl. Lord knows we don’t need him waking up while we’re still up here.” for once, the R rated hero was withdrawn, shuffling towards the exist with her head down.
Aizawa went next, the other two heroes trailing behind him.
They made it down to the common floor in silence before they ran into trouble.
Because sitting there on the couch was a certain blonde, his head down and his face covered in shadows. The four heroes froze in the doorway, staring between each other in confusion. Their attention was brought back to the other boy as he spoke, slowly lifting his head. Aizawa’s eyes locked onto a dull pair of red ones.
“Is he alright?”

Summary:
The end!
Chapter Text
The air in the room thickened with tension. Aizawa shifted his grip on MIdoriya’s limp form.”He…” there was a heavy pause. Truthfully, Aizawa wasn’t sure what would happen from that point on. “It’ll take time, But he’ll be alright.”
Bakugo shifted on the couch, head dropping down. “Damn it. I didn’t mean it, nerd.”
The pros exchanged worried and confused glances. Midnight took the initiative, stepping forward to crouch in front of Bakugo. Resting her hand softly on his knee, she asked in a very gentle voice. “What do you mean?” Her tone was one a mother would use, patient and understanding. “Is there something we should know, Bakugo?”
Present Mic broke in, no doubt being unable to resist the urge to say anything. “How did you know about…”
The question remained unfinished, but everyone knew.
Bakugo brought his hands up to thread them through his hair. “I said things to him.” His voice was hoarse. They all notice the tear that fell from his face, but no one commented. “Back before we got to UA, I told him to…” he trailed off, shaking his head violently. “My window was open and I heard you guys talking. I...I saw him falling.” the blonde shook his head. “It’s my fault, isn’t it.”
The pros all tensed, but it was All Might that spoke up first. “It was not anyone’s fault, young Bakugo.” Aizawa turned to him at that tone. It was clear that All Might wasn’t just telling that to the boy, but to himself as well. It almost felt like he was trying to convince himself of the fact, rather than actually believe it to be true.
Midnight turned and nodded at Aizawa as a sign to go. He gave her a sharp jerk of his head, grip tightening on his student. Her and Mic stayed behind, talking to bakugou quietly. They were comforting the explosive teen, an action it didn’t look like he knew very well.
Aizawa, with All Might tagging along behind quietly, made his way to the school
It took what felt like forever before they were walking through the door to the infirmary. Recovery Girl was walking around setting things up while talking over her shoulder at Nedzu. The Principle had that same small smile as always, twisting around and swinging his legs while sat in a desk chair. His hands. Paws? Gestured around the room as he told her some story.
The arrival of Aizawa and All Might caught the other two's attention.Their conversation came to an abrupt halt and the room grew thick with a different type of feeling. Recovery Girl turned toward them, face grim. “You can set him here, please.” She patted the hospital bed.
Aizawa didn’t hesitate to follow instructions, handling the boy more gently than anything. Once he was sure the boy wasn’t going to slip off the edge of the bed, he stepped back. The tired male slumped into the seat next to the bed, hand drifting to his forehead. He felt his shoulders drop as all tension finally left his body. Looking at the boy, laying safely in the hands of a medical professional, was reassuring to say the least.
The light pattering of footsteps sounded through the room as Recovery Girl hovered over Midoriya, making sure everything was okay with him.
A fuzzy hand appeared on Aizawa’s leg and before the older man could do anything, Nedzu was scrambling to pull himself into the man's lap. He wiggled around a little, gripping Aizawa’s pants and hauling himself up like Aizawa himself was nothing more than a chair.
As Nedzu finally made it up to his spot and plopped down, the principle buried himself into Aizawa’s scarf. “You did good, Shouta.” He reached up to pat the man's exhausted face. “He’s a strong one. He’ll be alright.”
The tired male sighed heavily, watching his student carefully. The boy looked peaceful in his sleep, as if the past few hours hadn’t happened. A bony hand set itself on Aizawa’s shoulder. He didn’t have to turn in order to know it was All Might.
“We’ll help him, Aizawa. He’s going to be okay”
And as he watched Recovery Girl take a step back, gazing at the boy with an adoring hope lining her eyes, he could believe that was true.
Throughout the rest of the night he was monitored closely by a small collection of individuals. Recovery Girl gave him a few minor sedatives to keep him out till morning. No sense in starting things so early again. That, and he looked like he could use the rest. It was only as the sun began to rise in the sky that the boy truly woke up.
A soft groan filtered through the room, stopping the quiet conversation that was going on between Present Mic and All Might. The two pro’s had been conversing quietly for the past hour. Aizawa had been lightly dozing on and off a few minutes here and there. He didn’t want to miss anything important.
But as Midoriya began to shift awake, the others paid close attention. Recovery Girl hopped out of her chair across the room, tutting her way over softly. “Looks like someone is waking up a bit early.” Midoriya blinked his eyes open at her voice, his head rolling to look at her.
She gave him a small smile.
“How are you feeling, dear?” He blinked at her, face carefully blank. Confusion rang clear in his eyes and a few moments later, tears joined the mix. One shaky hand came up to cover his eyes. The poor boy shuddered with heavy sobs.
“I'm sorry.” he croaked out, throat no doubt dry after everything he went through. He tried wiping away the hot tears, but it was futile. They ran faster then he could stop them. A thin hand found its way to Midoriya’s shoulder. The poor boy jumped, flinching at the contact. Slowly, his trembling hand fell. Warm blue eyes locked with sad green ones. “All Might.”
The man in question gave him a small, sad smile. “It’ll be okay, Midoriya.” He slowly pulled the boy in for a hug, gently sitting on the edge of the hospital bed. “Everything is going to be okay, My Boy.”
Aizawa reached out, taking a strong hold of Midoriya’s free hand. He said nothing, but the sentiment was there all the same.
And so, hours passed slowly as Midoriya cautiously opened up. They all listened intently, reassuring him at any point he got upset. By the end, they were one hundred percent sure the boy would be just fine. UA even appointed him as a therapist.
Nedzu, who had re-joined to listen, set a therapist up for each class and for each student to use freely. Once a month, they would have a quick catch up just in case.
At the end of the day, when Aizawa was walking Midoriya back to the dorm, The small boy spoke up. “Thank you, Sensei.” he ducked his head to avoid eye contact. “Thank you for saving me.”
The older male paused for just a moment. “You don’t have to thank me, kid.” a large hand landed in his green curls, ruffling them up. Midoriya beamed up at the man, getting a small smirk in return.
Yeah, He’d be okay.
