Work Text:
Rohan didn’t like to show affection when they were in public.
“Famous mangaka” he would say. “I have to preserve my public image.”
So when he tangled his fingers with Josuke’s own it was unexpected.
It was nice.
Under that awning of that little restaurant on that chilling rainy evening Rohan’s warm hand was a welcomed surprise.
“Thought you didn’t like to show we were together.”
“There’s only us right now, I think I can indulge you a little.”
Josuke didn’t want to ruin his hair. Rohan didn’t want to destroy his sketches. They had the perfect excuses to be there at that moment at each other’s company if they encountered someone else. Rohan would bemoan his luck to be in the same place with that infuriating brat while Josuke would show irritation and sneer at the man for not moving if he was so annoyed by his presence.
But it was only them under that awning.
They didn’t have to explain anyone their linked fingers.
“We should, y’know, stop holding hands while we’re in the open.”
“Do you want to?”
Josuke looked at Rohan. The blurry lights at the background contrasted with the sharp silhouette of the man.
Bokeh effect, he once explained to Josuke.
He liked that.
“Not really.” he replied.
This time Rohan looked at Josuke. He was like a huddle of dark cool colors, from his uniform to his hair obscuring his face. But his eyes reflected the street lights, incredibly bright.
Like diamonds.
“It’s getting late. You should go home now.”
Rohan loosened his hold but Josuke tightened his, not letting him to escape.
“It’s not that late, I can stick around a little more.”
The older’s mouth was a fine line, frustrated. Josuke didn’t like when he did that expression. He couldn’t see the other’s lips painted in flamboyant colors when he did that.
But it was the most ‘Rohan’ expression he had and the teen couldn’t deny he loved it too.
“Your mother must be worried.”
He unconsciously tightened his fingers, betraying his previous acts.
As if begging the other to not let him go.
“I told her where I was.”
Those diamonds were intense.
He tried to talk some sense into that thick skull but the younger was faster.
“I’m not going home today, Rohan.”
Rohan swallowed his words. Josuke was unfair with that low rough voice and bright eyes.
No brat should present themselves in such mature, charming way.
But there he was, trapping the man under his thumb without much effort.
It was unfair.
When the only thing Rohan had to offer was the warmth of his hand.
But that was suffice for Josuke.
