Overthinking

Summary:

This is inspired by Overthinking by Acid Ghost
Not sure why tbh. I was just listening to it and I’m really bad at titles so here we are.

A short multi fic surrounding Bakugou and personal growth I haven’t caught up in the manga so it might be OOC but I like to think I can capture his essence

Chapter Text

Sometimes it feels like sitting on the tallest mountain. Where the view is amazing, the air is thin and you can feel every minuscule movement in the air around you. You can feel the leaves rustle 30 meters away, the beat of a hawks wings 50 meters above, the water resting on the dew drops evaporating.

Sometimes it’s comforting to feel life move around you. To know that no matter what happens, no matter if you sit on the largest rock or end up at the bottom again, life keeps moving. It doesn’t stop for anyone.

And it’s like finally, there’s something, some force out there, that isn’t concerned whether you live or die. And that makes it easy to assume you’ll live. You’ll live and become the best, and no matter if you trip and fall, you don’t need a helping hand, life goes on and so will you.

But the problem with that mountain, the problem with anywhere seated so high, it can be suffocatingly lonely.

Bakugou liked to think he didn’t need anyone.

But the truth is, he never truly experienced being alone. Not enough to make a proper judgement on it. It was always someone. Whether it be the pitiful extras who followed him around, useless deku with his hopeful eyes and stupid little “helping” hands, or his parents always watching him, pretending not to care but most times failing.

And now he was here, stuck on this mountain, at the time it was the biggest mountain, he could see the whole city below him.

But now,

Now he could see along the horizon line, an even larger mountain, a skyscraper, and the people building them and scaling them.

So here he was

Stuck at the top of a mountain that can’t get bigger.

And the only way to truly be the best, to truly reach the top and see everything, was the climb down and start over.

And that,

That was the most frightening thing Bakugou had ever faced.
