seokashi shorts that i'll never quite finish

Summary:

Kashima’s a tease, and Seo is an outright menace.

I've got lots of Seo/Kashima scenes written, and while I've worked very hard on them, none have made it into a full story. So, in the most chronological way I can, I'm posting them as-is! Feedback appreciated.

Work Text:

-- Scene 1: First Kiss

“Has anyone ever told you you’re like, really beautiful?”

Kashima shakes her head and starts to chuckle. The fog shifts and the clouds move with it, clearing a path for the moonlight. It dances over her face - catching the fluffy wisps of hair at her ears and making them shine. It lights up her face like the pale surface of the moon. Everything fits. Her stupid dimples are level with Seo’s eyes as if daring her to do something about the grin on her dumb, beautiful face.

Seo can’t quite bring herself make eye contact

So she continues,

“I don’t mean handsome, talented, graceful - whatever words that fucker you look up to so much uses to skirt around saying he likes you. I mean beautiful. You make me want to focus on every tiny detail.”

And she looks up at the eyes she was so afraid of. She takes a long, hard stare. What’s going on in there?

“So, here’s what I’m thinking. I really wanna kiss you.”

“That’d be cool!”

What’s with that reaction?

“We should… do that… then.”

There’s the smirk. Kashima looks a little amused. Wow, she's really having fun with this, huh.

And then there’s the realization that she has no idea how to proceed.

“God, I’m just gonna do it.”

She stands on her tip-toes just a little and uses Kashima’s shoulders for support. But honestly, none of that actually matters, because as soon as she feels Kashima’s lips against hers it’s like every stupid mistake they’ve made these past few weeks no longer matter, they only matter to get them to this moment.

-- Scene 2: The Prince of the School

“If I got jealous easily, I wouldn’t be dating the prince of the school.” Seo chuckles, mostly at the dumb nickname.

“So you aren’t bothered by... that?”

Sakura urgently gestures to a scene unfolding outside the window. Sure enough, Kashima is there - brushing the hair out of her eyes and winking at a crowd of swooning girls. She takes a step towards them, and with a calculated chuckle begins: “Be still, princesses. Rest your hearts...”

The girls scream, and after while of this talk, settle down; satisfied by today’s... orders? Blessings? It definitely feels a little cult-y.

Nonetheless, Kashima waves sweetly and turns on her heel to face the window, as if turning to bow for an audience.

“That’s my girl!” Seo calls out the window and claps, grinning as wide as she can. Kashima laughs again, more heartily this time, more true to life. As she opens her mouth to continue the conversation, thunderous footsteps start to echo in the distance.

“That’s your cue to start running, babe!” Seo shouts, “Good luck with rehearsals!”

Kashima shoots a nervous glance in Hori’s direction, then blows a kiss and dashes off. Seo catches it, and without a second thought, bites into it.

Sakura sighs and shakes her head.

“Does she ever do that to you?”

Seo raises an eyebrow.

“Eh, not really. When I want her to. When I’m mad at her. I don’t really give a crap about that stuff.”

Sakura pauses,

“Hmm...”

“Spit it out,”

“Her... fans... do they know? That you’re dating?”

Seo cocks her head to one side and pretends to think.

“Do you think I want to be responsible for breaking the heart every girl in the school with my super hot girlfriend?-“

“I guess n-“

“Yes, I do. Obviously. We’re just waiting for the right time.”

Sakura looks at her with narrow eyes, trying to figure out whether that’s sweet or sinister of her - but then she remembers it’s these two she’s dealing with.

It’s gonna be both.

-- Scene 3: Established Relationship

They took a quick leap from singing lessons to romance. It was a quick ‘you like girls, right?', a quick nod, and a ‘sweet, so do I’.

‘We should hang out sometime!’

-

Kashima’s very bubbly. Seo’s been described as bubbly too, albeit with words less sweet.

Kashima’s a tease, and Seo is an outright menace.

They work well together. She brings out the best in her, whatever her best is. To most people, her ‘best’ is her voice; to herself, her best is her basketball skills, her great advice, her ability to come up with cute nicknames. To Kashima, her best has never really seemed to matter. In Kashima's eyes, she's a complete and simple person - and it's nice. She’s not a collection of weird talents and bizarre contradictions stuffed inside a sweet bod.

And now she lies in Kashima’s bed. The bedsheets are coral pink and polka-dotted, not unlike Chiyo’s ribbons. The TV lurks at the foot of the bed, but the remote has escaped to a faraway land.

“Kashimaaaa”, she starts to yell,

“You’re awake! Hey!”, a voice rings out from another room. Bathroom, probably.

“Get back he-re, you’re making me do that deep thinking stuff.”

Kashima pokes a freshly washed head round the door,

“I can’t be blamed for that!”

“You can too,”

“I wasn’t even there!”

“Of course you were,” Seo sits pointedly up in bed and raises her hand to her chest. With a pout and affected innocence in her eyes, she responds: “You’re always in my heart… remember?”

It would be so sweet if it weren’t so mocking. Kashima… well, she’s Kashima - she can’t help but flirt sometimes. Kashima’s face flushes a little too much - just a little past romantic flattery and into that sweet, sweet spot of embarrassment.

“Oi!”

Seo cackles as Kashima pounces on the bed next to her, pulling a pillow over her flushed face.

“You’re so cute when you’re mad!”

“Sto-op!”

But she doesn’t mean it.

“C’mon, drop the pout,” Seo starts, “We’ve still got a couple hours, right? You wanna do something fun?”

Kashima grins and the pillow slips off her face at last. Smiling Kashima is more fun than sulking Kashima, at least.

“Really? What are we gonna do?”

“Dunno,”

“Oh, I know!”

She always does.

-- Scene 4: Falling in Love

Seo, oddly tentative, bit Kashima’s bottom lip. She didn’t want her girlfriend to think she was a one-trick pony; a rowdy, rough girl with no sense for romance. Even if, maybe, that's what she was. Kashima didn’t seem to care. More than that, actually, Seo felt encouraged by the hands at her waist to lean in deeper, bite harder - and she realized Kashima wasn’t just apathetic to Seo’s blunt nature. She liked it. She likes her.

That was the moment she fell in love.

-- BONUS SCENE: Boxing

Sakura ducks into the choir room to watch Seo's lessons and is surprised, and a little concerned, to see Nozaki hunched in the corner, deep in thought. With a pre-occupied wave to the two girls, she tip-toes over to him and crouches down.

"Hey!"

"Oh! Hello Sakura. I didn't notice you walk in." He replies, barely looking at her.

"What's going on? You look worried!"

"Oh... it's nothing..."

"Okay!"

"No, wait, fine, I'll tell you."

Of course.

"Well... it's just that... if Seo’s the teacher, she should be taller than Kashima, right?”

Sakura should have known it'd be something as stupid as this.

"Nozaki, you know people can just have like, real-life heights that don't-"

“No!" He sits up straight and pulls a sketchbook from his pocket. "But don't worry Sakura. A professional mangaka such as I has the PERFECT solution!”

After a few moments of furious sketching, he turns the finished design around and looks to Sakura’s (hopefully) awe-filled eyes for judgment.

“WH- CUT IT OUT WITH THE BOXES!”
