Work Text:
Izuku doesn’t know how he ended up here. It’s something of a blur. One moment he was walking out of his dorm room, and the next he had somehow ended up beneath Kirishima’s bed with Kaminari’s hand covering his mouth as Kirishima and Kacchan walked in.
Izuku stares at Kaminari, and makes exaggerated hand gestures to bring across just how stupid he thinks this whole thing is. And why exactly are they here anyway? If Kacchan finds them, he will kill them.
But instead of answering any of his questions, Kaminari presses his hand down harder on Izuku’s mouth and signs him to be silent with the other one. “Please,” he whispers.
So Izuku nods and Kaminari takes his hand off his face. Izuku scoots further down beneath the bed to the wall, hoping to hide any traces of himself. He really wants to live to see tomorrow. He didn’t inherit one for all, just to be killed by Kacchan for eavesdropping, thanks.
Kaminari holds him in place before he can press himself further against the wall, so Izuku stills and gives a silent sigh. Maybe he should write a will when he survives this.
His thoughts get interrupted when the door slams shut firmly and Kirishima says, “I need advice.”
“Hah,” is Kacchan’s eloquent reply and Izuku can’t help but smile.
“About Kaminari.”
Beside him, Kaminari tenses, his grip on Izuku tightening. Izuku wonders if this is why Kaminari wanted to risk their lives. Now he’s interested, too.
“What about him?”
“He’s been acting strange lately. He says he’s tired and wants to rest but then I see him sneak outside. And he keeps avoiding us! Didn’t you notice how he stopped eating with us? He’s hiding something.”
Izuku glances at Kaminari and wonders at that. It’s true that he’s started to eat with Izuku and his group more often than not and that he stopped hanging out in the common area during the evening. Now that he thinks about it, Kaminari has been strangely silent lately as well.
But right now, Kaminari’s attention is on Kirishima’s leg and he’s just silently staring up ahead.
“Nothing wrong with that idiot,” Kacchan says. “That’s why you dragged me here?”
“He’s behaving strange,” Kirishima insists and Izuku nods in agreement. Kaminari, who finally takes notice of him, glares. Izuku ignores it in favour of listening to Kirishima.
“We used to hang out during the weekend but now he’s not even spending time with us at school!”
“The hell are you lonely for? So, he’s busy. Just wait him out or confront him directly. Don’t whine at me.”
Izuku sighs. Well, he didn’t exactly expect much from Kacchan but this is bad even from him. Izuku pinches Kaminari in the side but only gets pushed for his troubles. Izuku points at Kirishima in hopes of getting across that Kaminari should talk to him.
Just then, Kirishima throws himself onto his bed and groans loudly. “You are probably right.”
“Sure as hell am,” Kacchan agrees and throws himself down next to Kirishima. Izuku and Kaminari flinch, the bed sinking down on them uncomfortably. Now Izuku has Kacchan’s leg right in front of his face.
“This is so not manly of me. I should just ask.”
“Or you could fight it out.”
“Like you and Midoriya? Getting all chummy together. Don’t think I didn’t notice.”
There is the sound of a slap before Kacchan replies, “don’t use that word, shithead. We are training. Deku’s got a lot to learn.”
“Awe, come on, man. Don’t be insulted just because I brought your play dates up.”
“What am I? Three?”
Now Kaminari is pinching him but Izuku punches his insistent hand away and ignores the eyebrow wiggling.
“No, but gay and crushing on your childhood friend.”
“Wha-” Izuku jolts up but before he can finish, Kaminari’s hand is back on his mouth and keeping him silent. Above them, the bed creaks as Kacchan’s legs disappear and Kirishima grunts.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. God, let go of me. No violence between bros.”
Izuku wants to know what’s going on but Kaminari is shaking his head frantically and holding him back.
“I told you to shut the fuck up!”
“I’m sorry, Bakugou. Come on, man. Get off me, I can’t breath.”
Kacchan’s legs reappear just as Kaminari deems it safe to let go of him. Izuku is still very confused so he just continues to stare.
“I’m going. If you want to make up with that sparky idiot, just face him,” Kacchan says.
The legs in front of Izuku turn around to leave and Izuku, still very confused but somehow not getting past Kacchan’s words of just face him, reaches out and takes hold of Kacchan’s right ankle.
Kaminari is just a second away from stopping him but Izuku is faster. Kacchan, who’s not expecting the hand on his leg, barely catches himself on his hands as he falls forward. Kaminari places a hand across is face but the damage is already done. “Idiot,” he mutters.
And then it hits Izuku exactly what he just did. His eyes connect with Kacchan’s angry red ones and he immediately freaks out, pulling on Kaminari in hopes of hiding behind him. “Oh god I’m going to die. Please don’t kill me. Please, don’t.”
“Midoriya?” Kirishima asks from somewhere above but Izuku doesn’t care because they are going to die and no one will find their corpses because they will be here under Kirishima’s bed.
“Deku,” Kacchan grits out and Izuku flinches.
“So…. I can explain. Probably,” Kaminari tries in hopes of somewhat calming the situation. It’s no use though, Izuku can already hear the crackle of small explosions.
“Kaminari?” Now Kirishima’s face appears right in front of them. He looks just as confused as Izuku feels. But then, Izuku remembers that Kirishima’s quirk is hardening and he might actually be the only one Izuku can hide behind to live through this.
“Get the hell out of there,” Kacchan says.
Kaminari laughs awkwardly but inches forward. Izuku reluctantly lets go of him and wonders at his courage. “See, there is an explanation to all of thi-”
“Deku.”
Izuku closes his eyes and thinks back to the will he wanted to write. But Kacchan grits out his name once more so Izuku slowly crawls out from under the bed. He hears an “oh shit,” from Kirishima and wonders if those are the last words he will get to hear.
Kacchan is on him as soon as his torso is out and drags him up by his collar as he holds his other hand up threateningly. “Give me one reason why I shouldn’t end you right here.”
Izuku’s mind stupidly goes back to the word crush but he knows that it would only bring his death sentence up faster. “Ahh…”
Kirishima reaches out to hold Kacchan’s hand. “Maybe we should listen first. To why they were even he-”
“Actually, I should kill you first,” Kacchan deadpans. Kirishima laughs awkwardly.
Izuku knows that he should probably say something. But he’s afraid that anything he might say will somehow bring the topic to Kacchan accidentally getting outed. Which, Izuku knew he shouldn’t have listened to Kaminari.
Just then, Kaminari speaks up. But he doesn’t turn to Kacchan or Izuku. He turns to Kirishima, takes him by the shoulders and screams, “I like you! Please go out with me!”
Kacchan drops him and turns to Kaminari. Kirishima says, “huh?” Kaminari, in his agitation loses slight control of his quirk and shocks Kirishima, who immediately jumps back and screams, “Kaminari!”
Izuku, who once again finds himself admiring Kaminari for his courage, stands up and says, “I, um, I don’t know if what Kirishima said is true, but I love you and you should probably know before you kill me.” Izuku kind of falters towards the end but he said it so he’s got no regrets concerning this matter at least.
But now all eyes are on him so he kind of fidgets. Until Kaminari reaches for his hand. “So, fun hanging out but we, you know, have business to do and all, so bye.” Izuku nods frantically while Kaminari speaks and they shuffle their way to the door together.
They would have made it, too. That is, until Kacchan reached out and gripped Kaminari’s hand and wrung it off of Izuku’s. “Come on, Bakugou, that hurts.” Kaminari tries to free himself but it’s futile really.
“Oi, shitty hair,” Kacchan calls over his shoulder. “I think this should answer some of your questions.”
“Y-yeah,” Kirishima says.
“That said, this one is your idiot so you should deal with him.” He pushes Kaminari into the room and lets go of him. Then he turns to Izuku. “I have got my own to deal with.”
There must be something seriously wrong with Izuku because as he’s being dragged out, something in his chest flutters. Izuku wonders about that feeling but he can’t help the smile on his face. “I have a will to write,” he blurts, feeling stupidly happy. “For the next time I do something stupid.”
“Who says I’m going to let you live?”
“I’m bi.”
“I know.”
“You are gay.”
“So?”
“If you let me live, we could kiss.”
“Are you bargaining for your life? With a kiss?” Kacchan asks just as they reach the elevator. He presses the button for his floor and turns to Izuku.
“You said to give you a reason?” Izuku shrugs and backs off just a bit. Kacchan still has a hand on his arm, though.
“That’s not enough, Deku.”
“Date?”
“Are you even trying?” Kacchan asks and Izuku has really got no place left to hide as his back hits the wall of the elevator.
“We could- what would be enough?” Izuku can’t really think with Kacchan pressing him into the wall. He can feel Kacchan’s breath on his face. He closes his eyes but Kacchan isn’t moving closer, he stops inches away from a kiss.
“You,” Kacchan says when Izuku opens his eyes and leans in just as the elevator door opens.
Izuku will wonder later how exactly he always puts himself in weird situations but for now he’s got to convince Todoroki that Kacchan was not assaulting him and to please thaw him up. And then he has to convince Kacchan not to kill Todoroki.
Izuku really could have done without his first kiss ending up freezing Kacchan. He hopes that at least things went better for Kaminari.
