Work Text:
Kaminari Denki was 6 when his quirk manifested.
It was probably the scariest moment of his life. His body hurt, his hands and legs were glowing and he felt like he was going to pass out.
-Mommy! It hurts, help me, please!
He cried in pain while the current traveled through his head, making his vision blur.
-Calm down dear, you need to relax... Breathe, Denki, Breathe!
His mom said as calmly as possible in a situation like that. She was trying to approach the boy, until she was interrupted by another lightining glowing through his body.
After that, Denki remembers trying to breathe like she said, but his head was spinning more and more. He was falling slowly. His mom was covering her eyes due to the light.
Then he passed out.
That was what happened everytime he over used his quirk, he would loose his control and forget what happened before the blackout.
This changed when his brother arrived. Denki was 8.
His mom was coming back home with the baby! He would finally meet his little brother... He was so happy!
When the time came... Denki was afraid. He could feel the electricity running inside his brain... Like a storm, a thunderstorm with lightining and wind that destroyed everything on its way.
He was a storm.
He couldn't play with the baby. It would only hurt everyone. He couldn't let that happen. He needed to protect him. Protect his family.
From himself.
That was when he found out his feeling messed up his quirk.
His fear made him run to his room. His parents went there and told him to get out, that he didn't need to be afraid.
They were wrong.
The feeling grew bigger. The storm was stronger. The lightining buzzing in his ears and glowing through his skin.
He was crying again. His quirk was hurting him.
Again.
He hated it. He hated the tingling sensation in his limbs. He hated the buzz inside his ears. He hated everything about that quirk.
He promised he wouldn't use it. Never.
That's the only thing he remembered before the blackout.
After that, he stopped using his quirk. His brother, Raiden, was protected from him. His parents were worried about it, they told Denki he shouldn't deny his power, that it was a blessing.
It felt like a curse.
But the feeling wouldn't stop. The thunderstorm inside his head. The buzz. It didn't. He begged and cried at night for it to cease but his body didn't hear...
Or it didn't care...
At school, the children would show off to everyone their powers. Everything one could imagine as a power could be seen inside that school. But Denki isolated himself. He wasn't quirkless, but the less people who knew this, the better. This made his school life really hard. The boys would bully him thinking he had no power. Denki didn't defend. He wanted to protect people from himself, even though they hurt him. People didn't need to suffer because of his cursed power.
But the thunderstorm grew louder and even stronger.
Now he was older, last grade of middle school. He passed his whole life hiding it from people. But it was stronger than him now. His fingers would twitch with sparks when he was angry. The current would flow through his arms when he was sad... He couldn't help anymore. Someone would get hurt with his lack of control.
One day, his body acted for instinct. His urge to protect people betrayed his promise when he used his electricity to stop a man who was threatening a boy.
His arm moved itself to the lamppost, which exploded and gave the boy time to run.
He saved that child. He saw the fear in his face.
He knew that sensation. The utter fear of Being hurt.
Denki found out he could help children like him.
Like himself.
He arrived home with a smile that day. A real one. Hugged his brother tightly and told his parents it was over.
When they asked, he just smiled and said:
"The storm inside my head"
Finally, the sun was rising in Denki's brain
