Work Text:
Well, he walked up to me and he asked me if I wanted to dance
He looked kinda nice and so I said I might take a chance
When he danced he held me tight
And when he walked me home that night
All the stars were shining bright
And then he kissed me
Kirishima was standing at the side of the dancefloor, his friends were all out there dancing joyously. Ashido, who was in a knee-length poofy pink dress, looked like a cloud as she twirled around with Sero, who was smiling wider than anyone Kirishima had ever seen someone smile. Kaminari was dancing enthusiastically around his new boyfriend, Shinsou, who was looking on with amusement as his blonde date willingly made a fool of himself in front of all the party-going students.
Looking on like this, it made Kirishima wish that he brought a date, maybe even Bakugou, but sadly, he couldn’t form the words to ask his crush out to the dance. So here he was, sitting in a seat near the concessions bar, a cup of hopefully not spike punch in hand, fake smile plastered on his face in case any friends looked his way.
“Hey Shitty-Hair.” greeted Bakugou from the seat next to Kirishima. The redhead didn’t even notice the normally angry blonde’s arrival. “Do you want to fuckin dance with me, or somethin’?”
Bakugou was dressed up in a tux that matched Kirishima’s, and it looked kinda nice. “It’s not as if he is asking me out or anything. Might as well take the opportunity to dance with the angry boy of my dream while I can. ” thought Kirishima.
Kirishima took Bakugou’s extended hand and replied, “I might take a chance.” The small smile Bakugou gave in return nearly brought Kirishima to his knees.
ALmost as soon as they stepped on the dance floor, the faster pace song was replaced with KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I see”. Bakugou grabbed Kirishima’s hand tighter and lead him to the center of the room.
“You can quick step, right?” asked Bakugou.
Kirishima raised an eyebrow, but nodded. His mom had insisted on years of ballroom dance classes, apparently they build character.
“Good. You’re leading.” was all Bakugou said before pushing Kirishima into action. It made sense why Kirishima was leading, he had grown to be 4 centimeters taller than bakugou and had a much more sturdy build too, but Bakugou was so.. Bakugou, Kirishima would have thought the blonde would have wanted to lead. Kirishima lead them through a simple chasse then a few scattered in time with the song. They didn’t let go of each other, and Bakugou held tight onto Kirishima as they flew around the clearing the other students made around them.
All too soon the song ended. But they couldn’t hear the next song over everyone cheering for them. Both boys had a light sheen of sweat on his forehead, faces red from a mix of the exercise and shyness at all the attention they were receiving.
Bakugou shouted insults at Kaminari, who was recording everything on his phone. Kirishima grabbed Bakugou’s arm and said, “Don’t be rude. I think I’m going home now, so don’t kill him when I’m gone.”
“I’ll walk you home. I just came because my old hag wouldn’t stop going after me about not going. Now that I’ve made a fucking appearance, I can leave.” Bakugou grabbed the redheads hand and dragged him out. Once they were in the cool evening air, Bakugou said, “I’ll walk you home.”
Kirishima tried to put up a fight about it, but Bakugou was insitant. Outside it was dark and beautiful, the stars were shining brightly in sky. The two walked down the street, recounting stories of their dancing lessons.
“I usually lead, but this one time a girl so fucking tall came in and basically cornered me into letting her lead. It was the absolute worst. I kept tripping over my feet and got bruised up. After that I started choosing partners and forcing them to lead because damnit, I was going to be the best dancer, no matter if I was leading or not.” recounted Bakugou. His eyes seeming to light up when he talked about winning, even if it was for just dancing.
Kirishima thought he could top that story easily, “One time I was doing my lesson and some new kid came in and hit me on the face because, and I quote, ‘My chasse was so sloppy it makes a 3 year olds playstation look like a hospital.’ He then forced me to practice the dance so that he could point out every part that was wrong with it. In the end he called me a dumby, but deemed me better than the stupid me that walked into the room.” During the recount of the story, Bakugou stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and smiled a little.
“Oh my god. I was a little piece of shit to you back then.”
“That was you ??” exclaimed Kirishima. Now that it was pointed out, Kirishima could see the similarity between the dancing dictator and his crush.
The doorway of Kirishimas house was very fast approaching, the dark wood gleamed in the light from the window. The two walked up the steps to the front porch. Before Kirishima could open the door, he felt Bakugou strongly twirl him then pull him down via an arm around the neck. He paused 3 centimeters away from each others face, Kirishima couldn’t help but look at Bakugou’s lips and imagine how soft they would be to kiss. Slowly, Bakugou moved closer and Kirishima, in all his impatient glory, quickly moved to kiss the blonde.
It felt as if they were dancing again, keeping uncoordinated yet perfect time with each others movements. When the kiss ended, Bakugou nodded, turned around and walked away.
“So…” Kirishima thought, “Are Bakubro and I dating ?”
Each time I saw him I couldn't wait to see him again
I wanted to let him know that he was more than a friend
I didn't know just what to do
So I whispered I love you
He said that he loved me too
And then he kissed me
At school, things didn’t seem much more different than normal. Bakugou still talked with Kirishima, and the redhead caught him staring more often than normal. When Bakugou left the room or school though, Kirishima found himself counting the minutes until Bakugou would return.
This whole area of uncertainty was driving Kirishima insane. If Bakugou would just ask him out or to just be friends, that would be great. Every single action Bakugou made was subject to Kirishima reading way too much into it, searching for some sort of clue as to what Bakugou thought of him.
After class one day Kirishima decided that he had had enough of this and took fate into his own hands.
“Hey Bakubro!” called Kirishima sweetly. “Can I talk with you outside in like 5 minutes?”
“Sure.”
Kirishima hurried out the door and down to the open corridor. There weren’t many places this conversation could take place. Kirishima knew the blonde wouldn’t want to have it in public, or at least, not in the open area. So off the redhead went, trying to find somewhere secluded in 2 minutes.
Thank goodness that this isn’t a desert or a completely open space. Kirishima found some trees on the south side of the building. The trees were close enough together that they created a perfect place to talk without prying eyes. Kirishima bolted back to the entrance into the building to pick up Bakugou, who was a minute early and looking apathetically at his phone.
Suddenly Kirishima was very very nervous. What if had read into the kiss too much, or not enough? What if Bakugou decided that he hated it and never wanted to do it again?
What if
“Are you going to tell me something or are you just going to stand there like a damn idiot?” cooly asked Bakugou as he put his phone in his pocket.
Kirishima slowly approached Bakugou, trying to formulate something to say, to explain how he felt, but he was left not knowing what to do.
“Let’s go here, I think you would prefer if we go over here, it’s more private.” Kirishima lead the way back to the trees, Bakugou following him around the corner.. Once in the trees, the blonde leaned back and looked like an angle made human. His red eyes glowed and sparkled in the scattered light, His hair lit up like a halo.
“Okay, this really is no time to get distracted. ” thought Kirishima. When he looked back to Bakugou, he saw that Bakugou was him. It wasn’t his normal “evaluating the competition” stare, this was more… gentle, if one can call anything Bakugou does “gentle”.
“Uh… so, I wanted to ask…” stumbled Kirishima. Then he thought, “Wait.. what do I want to ask? Do I want to ask why he is the first person I think to talk to when something happens? Why I feel like I can trust you with anything? If he also feels like his heart will beat out of his chest? How he manages to be the most manly man in the class? DO I ask if he loves me to?”
The world stopped as Kirishima came to that realization. He felt like the huge weight of uncertainty had been lifted off his heart. “I love you.” whispered Kirishima, awe clearly present in his voice.
“That wasn’t a question, Shitty-Hair.” stated Bakugou as he sauntered up to the taller teen. The blonde put one of his hands in the red hair and smiled softly. “I love you too.”
The Bakugou roughly pulled down Kirishima and kissed him. It was just as perfect as the first and when it ended, Kirishima wished that it hadn’t.
“What was with all the fucking secrecy? I made damn sure you knew that I liked you, I wasn’t subtle.” Bakugou lead them out of the woods and towards the gate to the campus. “I’m not… good with words. My dancing with you and that kiss were my confession.”
Kirishima nodded, and grabbed the blondes hand. Somewhere nearby, Kaminari could be heard calling, “Kiri and Bakubro sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First comes love, then comes marriage, Then comes Kiri with the baby carriage!”
Bakugou turned bright red from a mix of fury and embarrassment. “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU? FIVE?” screamed the angry blonde.
Laughing calmly, Kirishima put a hand on Bakugou’s shoulder and whispered, “Katsuki, this is why I told you in secret.”
At the sound of his given name, Bakugou went from red to pink. The redhead released a little chuckle and gave Bakugou a peck on the cheek. To return this gesture, Bakugou created a small explosion right next to Kirishima’s head. Thankful his quirk was activated, so nothing got hurt besides Bakugou’s tough guy persona.Though, the persona is probably fine since the injury was for his boyfriend.
The two left the school grounds, off to their first official date at a cafe near the school.
I knew that he was mine so I gave him all the love that I had
And one day he took me home to meet his mom and his dad
Then he asked me to be his bride
And always be right by his side
I felt so happy I almost cried
And then he kissed me
Today was the day, after 2 years of dating, Eijirou was finally going to meet Katsuki’s parents.
So far their relationship had gone with only a few major fights, but at the end of each one the two were closer than before. Since they live together, Eijirou did find it odd that he hasn’t met Mr and Mrs Bakugou, but Katsuki said “You’ll fucking run when you meet them. I’m trying to avoid losing my boyfriend.” He even jokingly said that he wouldn’t take Eijirou unless they were married or were planning to be, but that was just a joke.
“Babe, what should I wear? I want to make a good impression, but I feel like all my outfits are stupid!” whined Kirishima from in front of the wardrobe.
Katsuki, who was tying his tie, came out of the bathroom and gave Eijirou a look , after dating for this long, Eijirou recognised this as the, “are you shitting me?” look.” Just wear whatever you feel fucking comfortable in. How about your red button-up and the black pants? You look fine in them.”
“But babe ! I want to look better than fine!”
Rolling his eyes, Katsuki walked up to the dresser, pulled out the pants and shirt, handed them to Eijirou, kissed him on the chin, brushed his hair back a little, then walked back to the bathroom.
Once the getting ready dance was finished, the two left the house to go to the Bakugou’s.
In the car, Eijirou pulled down the sun shield and checked his hair, which he had tucked into a loose ponytail. His hands shook as he tried to adjust one piece of his fringe. Why was he so nervous, he’s just meeting some other adults.
They reach the house too soon for Eijirou’s taste, but there was no way he was going to back down from this challenge. Katsuki didn’t even knock before entering the house.
Inside the house was pretty modern, clean white couch and a leather chair across from it, a fireplace as the focus point and gathering spot of what must be the living room. Off in a seperate room there was the sound of happy chatter and pots and pans clanging together.
Katsuki quietly closed the door and indicated to Eijirou to stay quiet. The look his boyfriend was sporting told Eijirou that the blonde was going to cause trouble. Slowly, Katsuki walked towards what must be the kitchen. Inside, a older Katsuki with breasts had her back turned to the entry and was cooking something. Eijirou guessed that that was Katsuki’s mom.
As soon as the woman put down the spoon she was holding, Katsuki charged. He lifted the woman in the air and spun her. During this attack she screamed, “Holy shit shit fuck fuck goddamn fuck!”
Yep, definitely Katsuki’s mom.
The son was laughing when he put down his mom, who was now berating him for scaring her like that.
“Honey, are you okay?” a man asked from behind Eijirou in the entryway. “Oh, Katsuki, you’re home. I thought your mom was dying or something.” The man, Masaru, looked at Eijirou and hugged him tightly as he said, “And you must be Eijirou! So glad to finally meet you!”
Mitsuki stopped her tyraid to look at the redhead and once she realized that this is the Eijirou, she ran up and joined the hug, “You must be the poor soul who made the mistake of dating our rude Katsuki.”
KAtsuki made some protest in the background, but gev in when his mom kept going on and on about how sweet Eijirou must be based on all the stories they hear. They even talked about the beginning of the relationship and how lovesick Katsuki actually was.
Soon dinner was ready, and it was then that Eijirou learned that Katsuki got his gift of cooking from his mom because damn that meal was worthy of being made a five star resturant.
With the meal done, they all settled into the living room, Mitsuki and Masaru on the couch and Katsuki and Eijirou squished on the brown chair. To get more comfortable, Katsuki adjusted himself to sit on the redheads lap. Before he got fully situated he complained, “Theres something in my pocket. I need to take it out before I can get comfy.” Katsuki leaned over and pulled out a small box out of the pocket farthest from Eijirou. Without any words, Katsuki handed the box to EIjirou.
When he opened the box, he saw a beautiful titanium ring. Eijirou could feel tears forming in his eyes, but he held them back because he wanted to see his engagement gosh darnit.
“Ei, I know I can be a major asshole, and that can say some pretty harsh things. But you make me feel like I can be someone better, and you do make me a better person. I love you. I love your stupid hairstyle, that silly giggle you make when you say something you think is hilarious, and holy shit, your smile puts the sun to shame. I want to be with you for the rest of my life, and I know that we have only been dating for 2 years and that we are only nineteen, but Eijirou Kirishima, will you stick with me and stay by my side? WIll you marry me?”
In the background, Mitsuki was crying and Masaru was patting her back. Eijirou pulled the blonde closer to him and laughed and cried.
Then Katsuki kissed him.
