Soft Embers Kindling

Summary:

Inspired by a small thought of "What if Endeavor was Deku's dad" which tirned into "What if Endeavor met Inko and ended up raising Deku with the Todoroki siblings too." Did you expect angst? Nah we die like men and go through with incredible fluff.

Today was an exciting yet stressful day for Inko
Midoriya. Today was her scheduled appointment to check on how her child was doing inside her womb. Inko smiled warmly, to think that she of all people would be a mother.

She let out a hum as she thought about whether he would be like her or like ...Hisashi. Oh..right, this marked another month that he would be away. Did he even love her anymore? Did he even want anything to do with her or their baby? Inko shook her head, this wasn’t the time to be depressed, she had to be positive for her baby!

In her thoughtful stupor, she ended up nearly colliding with someone who was turning the corner in front of her. She let out a squeak as she scrambled to a stop.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going!” She looked up to see a rather bulky male with red hair and cold blue eyes. She shivered as she recognized him as the current #2 Hero-Endeavor.

The Hero’s eyes narrowed. “You’re here for an ultrasound, right?” She nodded nervously and he pointed in the direction behind her. “You’re going the wrong way, the radiology ward is that way.”

Her brain scrambled from embarrassment, had she really been that spaced out? God, how was she going to be a good mother like this? Would she end up leaving her baby behind one day if she kept this habit up? She felt tears prickling at her eyes and Endeavor stiffened.

“If you'd like,” He began with a sigh. “I can take you.”

She straightened her posture, “You aren't busy?”

Endeavor shook his head, “My wife is pregnant with our fourth child, I stepped out for a moment for some fresh air.”

Inko grew even more confused, but was conflicted, Endeavor began to walk without her. “Are you coming or not?”

She hurried walked to match his pace. “Y-yes, oh but please slow down a bit.”

He let out a hmph in response. “No promises.”

The mother-to-be let out a whine but complied anyway. “Yessir.”

It took them a while, but they made it to the radiology ward just in time.

“You're Mrs. Inko Midoriya right?” The nurse giggled. “Right this way, no need to be nervous, just sit down and it'll be over in no time,” The nurse looked over to Endeavor. “Will you be staying as well?”

Said Hero was on the verge of saying no, but taking one look at how nervous Inko was quickly persuaded him otherwise. “Fine, I have no other business to attend to.”

Inko began to cry tears of happiness, which startled them both. “I'm sorry, I'm prone to crying, it runs in the family. Please, show me, my baby.”

Both the nurse and Endeavor calmed down at that and the process began. “See that figure over there? That's your baby.”

Inko began to cry again. “Do you know if they're a boy or girl?”

The nurse hummed. “Not yet, you’ll be able to find out next time, the first ultrasound you have usually is just to estimate the due date.”

Inko's shoulders sagged. “Oh, I see..”

“I got to say though,” The nurse chirped. “That is a healthy baby, but I do recommend more iron, a lot of it.”

Inko nodded before looking at Endeavor, who was sitting quietly with his eyes closed. “Do you have any advice?”

“Don’t think so much and get lost again.” He answered quickly.

The expectant mother pouted. “Hey, that was a one-time thing, it won’t happen again...I think.”
Both the nurse and Endeavor sighed, the nurse wrote something on her laptop before handing Inko a folder. “You should come back with your husband next month and bring this with you.”
Inko went quiet at the thought of her husband being present any time soon. She gave a shy smile as she felt at the bump of her stomach. “My husband has been overseas for a long time because of his occupation, but I do think he’ll be back at least once to check up on our baby.”
The nurse gave her a pitying look before taking out a flyer from a nearby counter. “Of course, but just in case, here’s some information for a committee of single mothers and ones with busy husbands. I’ll tell the receptionist to deal with bringing up another appointment next month and an ultrasound three months before you give birth, your due date should be about July 15.”
Inko marked the date onto the folder she was given. “Thank you both for your time.” She grinned at the thought of all the baby clothes would have to buy. “I’m already looking forward to next month.”
Inko stretched as she stood back up. “I'm going to give this baby the best upbringing known to man! I won’t let anything bad happen to this child!”
The Todoroki father was silent as he watched Inko pledge eternal happiness to a child she had yet to meet. The world wasn’t as nice like that, if you didn’t have a powerful or interesting quirk, you were left behind. In this world, it was survival of the fittest.
Enji was quickly brought out of his thoughts when Inko grasped his hands in hers. “You said you had a son right? If we ever meet again, I hope our kids will be able to play together.”
Enji was silent but he had no reason to decline, after all, there was no guarantee that they would ever meet again within the same circumstances. So when he relayed the message to Inko, he surprised to see that she didn’t care about his cold remark and smiled instead.
“That’s great!” She giggled one last time before ushering the both of them out of the room. “You have a son to go see, don’t you? You better raise him to be happy, it’s your job as a parent, after all. Our kids will be friends in the future, I just know it!”

Little that they know, she would be right and those two children would be as close as can be.
