Chapter Text

It all happened way to quick. Hizashi was out on patrol rather late, close to 1 am, but he wasn’t keeping track. For the most part it had been slow. The only villain he had encountered was someone trying to steal an old woman’s purse, which he was able to deal with rather quickly, but this one was different.

He didn’t think too much of it in the moment, someone had just bumped shoulders with him as they passed on the sidewalk. He was able to carry on with his patrol for about 10 more minutes before he began feeling sick. Really sick. His head was pounding so hard he could hardly see, so he took off his glasses and headphones and squinted until he could find a bench to sit on. Hizashi pulled his phone out of his pocket and called his husband.

“Hizashi?” Said the gruff, sleepy voice on the other end. “Are you okay? Where are you?”

“Can you come get me, I feel awful. I think I got hit by someone’s quirk.” He groaned as his stomach started to twist and told Shouta where he was.

“Stay there, I’m on my way.”

-------
“He seems fine, other than the flu that is,” Said the doctor. Hizashi just wanted to be home in bed, but Shouta thought it’d be best to double check he was actually okay first. “If it gets worse, let me know, but this will probably all go away with a bit of rest.” The doctor handed his card to Shouta.

“Can we go now? My head kills,” Hizashi said as he stood up. His legs were shaky, so he grabbed his husband’s arm for support. Slowly, they made their way out of the hospital and back to the car.

“What happened to you anyway?” Asked Shouta as he got into the driver’s seat.

“I don’t know… Some dude bumped into me while I was walking, I think it was him who did this, didn’t get a good look at him though. My jaw hurts, why does my jaw hurt?”

“I don’t know, let’s just get you home and in bed.”

“Okay…”

The drive back home was mostly quiet, Hizashi tried to turn on some music, but even on the lowest volume the sound was too much. He ended up stealing Shouta’s jacket at a red light, but it didn’t warm him up much. He went straight to bed when they got home, after asking Shouta to tell Principal Nezu he wouldn’t be coming into work the next day.

-------

It was far past noon before Hizashi got out of bed. He still felt terrible, but he was expecting as much. Checking his phone, he found a few missed calls from Nemuri, a text from Shouta checking in on him, and another text from an unknown number just asking “how you feeling?”

“What the hell?” He muttered to himself as he unlocked his phone. “Who is this?” He texts back.

“Don’t worry about that, but I can help you get rid of that flu of yours.”

“What’re you talking about?”

“See you soon.”

As soon as Hizashi read the text, he got a pop-up on his screen saying that the number had blocked him. ‘Who the hell?’ He thought to himself. Maybe it was the guy from last night? He thought it would be best to double check the locks on the windows and doors. Once he had finished, he checked the time and saw that Shouta would be having a spare block right now, so he gave him a call.

“Hey, you feeling any better?”

“Not really, and I just got some weird texts. Something about someone wanting to help me feel better, I think it might’ve been the guy from last night, the one I bumped into.”

“That’s… Weird. Maybe you should come here, you’d be safer on campus.”

“I dunno Sho, he said ‘see you soon,’ I don’t wanna risk running into him along the way.”

“Okay, I’m gonna see if I can get someone to cover my last class so I can come home. Keep me updated, alright?”

“Okay, I love you.”

“Love you too, ‘Zashi.” And with that, Shouta hung up.

Hizashi got out his directional speaker and put it on, deciding he’d rather have a sore neck and be safe than comfortable and unprotected. He closed the curtains in the living room and sat down on the couch, massaging his temples as he reclined. “Honestly I might have to take that guy up on his offer,” he said with a pained chuckle.

“Oh yeah?”

The voice coming from the kitchen made Hizashi jump out of his skin. He got up again and faced towards the kitchen, wanting to keep distance between him and the figure he now saw standing in the darkness. “What the hell do you want with me?!” He asked, trying not to be so loud as to break things with his quirk.

“Is that a directional speaker you have on? It’s probably gonna get in my way, so would you mind taking it off for me?”

“Yeah, no way I’m doing that.” He said as his hands reached up and undid the clasps behind his neck. He pulled the speaker off and dropped it on the couch. “Fuck…”

“You’re so easy to control, Present Mic, it’s almost no fun!”

“Who are you?”
The man stepped forwards into the light spilling in from the living room. He was tall, a bit on the thin side, with short, pitch black hair. His skin was sickly pale, to the point he almost looked dead. His eyes, dark red in colour, scanned over Hizashi quickly, making sure he wasn’t hiding anymore weapons. He smirked, just enough to show off…

“Your teeth…”

“What, you haven’t seen anything like this before?”

‘Fair point,” He said as he thought back to a few of his students. “Still doesn’t explain what you’re doing in my house.”

The man walked up to Hizashi and paced around him, examining him closer. “It’s pretty simple, actually. I haven’t fed in a while, and unfortunately for you, you were the first person I came across last night that… Suited my tastes. I’m actually pretty lucky for the fact my quirk makes people weak for a day or so, and you were pretty easy to follow home.” The man stopped his pacing behind Hizashi, brushing his neck as he pulled the long, blond hair over his shoulder and out of the way.

“Eraserhead is on his way here, if you hurt me, he’ll kill you.” Hizashi was frozen in place despite how hard he tried to fight the mind control.

“Oh, I won’t be here long, and you’ll be turned by the time he’s back anyway. Don’t scream okay? I don’t really feel like going deaf today.” The man pulled Hizashi’s head to the side and bit down on his neck.

He wanted to scream, but Hizashi couldn’t get his mouth open, but the jolt of pain from the bite was to get his reflexes going as he reached up and shoved the man’s head away. Bad idea. As the fangs pulled out of his neck the ripped a deep gash into it, tearing open the artery and spraying blood across the walls and floor. The man regained control over Hizashi, catching him as he fell, and bit back down on his neck. The last thing he saw before passing out was the man cutting open the pad of his own thumb and bringing it up to Hizashi’s mouth.
