Work Text:
Aizawa Shouta stood outside of Class 1-A, staring up at the door as the class bell rang. He supposed he was a bit nervous to go in, but he swallowed his fear and stepped through the door. Every pair of eyes in the room turned to look at him as he walked over to the teacher, handing him a note. The older gentleman read it over before giving a little smile, nodding a bit. “Ah, yes, I heard of your transfer. It's good to have you here, young Aizawa.” He said, and the raven actually grimaced.
Then the man stood, and addressed the class. “Everyone! This is your new class mate, Aizawa Shouta. You may remember him from the sports festival last week, as a member of the general studies course.” He told them, clapping a hand on to Aizawa's shoulder a bit roughly for the raven's taste. “It was decided after his outstanding performance that he would be moved to the hero course, so I expect you all to treat him with the same respect you give one another. Understood?”
A loud “Yes sir” echoed through the room, and Aizawa had to stop himself from rolling his eyes. He could already tell that this was not going to be a fun rest of the year...
The teacher turned back to the raven haired teen, smiling at him. “Do you have anything you'd like to tell the class before you take your seat?” He asked him, clearly expecting some kind of 'I can't wait to learn with you all' or 'I'm honored to have been given this opportunity' type of spiel.
Unfortunately, Aizawa was going to have to disappoint him.
“I'm not here to make friends.” Aizawa said coldly, keeping his expression blank as he stared out at the rest of the class. “I'm here to train to be a hero, so don't expect me to get all buddy buddy with you all.” Everyone stared at him in silence for a long while before he gave a sigh, heading to the only empty seat near the back of the class.
Besides him sat a young blond boy wearing sunglasses that he remembered seeing at the sports festival. His quirk was something about amplifying his voice to extremely crazy levels, really not something that he couldn't just erase and render useless. The boy smiled and waved at him, but Aizawa just ignored him and got out his notebook and pencil.
The rest of class was uneventful, everyone remaining somewhat quiet unless they had a question. At the end of it, Aizawa was putting away his books when a hand was suddenly thrust into his face. It was the blond again, grinning from behind those ridiculous shades. “I don't think we were properly introduced at the sports festival. I'm Hizashi Yamada!” He said cheerily.
Aizawa stared at the hand in front of him for a moment before brushing it away, picking up his bag. “I remember you. You relied on your quirk too much, which is why you lost.” He said coldly, standing and glancing at Yamada. His face had fallen, clearly not expecting the low blow. “I'm not sure if you understood me earlier, but I'm not here to make friends. So just leave me alone.” With that, the raven pushed past the blond and headed for the exit.
He really hated people like that. Loud, rude, obnoxious, and just the total opposite of who he prided himself on being. Sure, Aizawa was a bit mean at times, but hero work wasn't for the weak willed who couldn't push back when prompted. If he really had to sit next to that blond nuisance all year, his head was probably going to explode...
“Hey, Shouta!” An annoying voice called after the raven as he left school grounds, making him turn around. There were a few of his classmates walking over, all wearing smiling faces. Yamada was the one who had called him, jogging over and stopping in front of him with a wide grin. “The four of us were gonna go hang out somewhere. You wanna come along?” He asked, pushing his stupid sunglasses up onto his nose more.
“No.” Was the simple answer he received, Aizawa turning away once more and starting to walk again.
Of course, he was cut off by the annoying blond once again as he tried to get away, the boy frowning now. “Aww, c'mon Shouta! It'll be fun, I promise!” Yamada argued, putting his arms out in an over exaggerated shrugging gesture. “None of us can even decide where to go, so it would be your pick anyway!”
God, the blond was so fucking annoying... Did he ever shut up? “I said no, now leave me alone. And stop calling me that, we aren't friends.” Aizawa actually snapped, cool demeanor breaking for a second in his annoyance. Yamada actually seemed shocked, so the raven took a moment to compose himself before speaking again. “I have studying to do anyways. Leave me alone.”
“And you think we don't have studying to do?” Another voice said, and Aizawa glanced behind him. The voice came from a rather tall boy with black hair that was almost as dark as the raven's. Iida Tensei was his name, if Aizawa remembered correctly, and from their latest test scores he was one of the brightest kids in the class. “Even if we're students from an esteemed academy like UA, we deserve to relax a bit too. We were planning on going to a cafe or something and all studying together, but we couldn't decide which one.”
Aizawa bit his lip, looking at the ground. From what he could tell, he had two options. Tell them to screw off again and go on his way, or go along with them. He'd been planning on going to one of his favorite cafes anyway... Finally, he gave a little sigh. “I... I was going to head to this one place that I go to a lot...” He muttered, reaching up and rubbing the back of his neck.
A hand clapped onto his back, nearly making Aizawa fall over. It was a muscular white haired boy, Kan Sekijirou if he recalled, looking down at him with an almost stern expression. “Good man.” He said in a gruff but friendly voice. “Knew you'd come around sometime.”
The last member of the small group was Nemuri Kayama, a violet haired girl that Aizawa had grown to dislike over his two months in the hero course. She was relentlessly persistent, and over all a pain to be around. Over all, it was a strange little group that they had going, but the raven figured he'd just have to deal with them for a while...
“Yeah, yeah... Are we going or what?” Aizawa asked, already starting to walk. The little group followed behind him, all talking and laughing with one another as he lead the way. It was honestly kind of annoying... He went to this place to get away from all the noise and chatter that seemed to follow his classmates around like the fucking plague.
They had to hop on the train in order to get to the right part of the city, and the raven seriously considered ditching the small group when Yamada got into an argument with Nemuri about something stupid that Aizawa couldn't even remember. Not that he was paying attention to their banter anyway... But, he was a nice person at heart, so he told them to hurry it up when they got to the right stop, and the two resolved to finish their argument later.
The walk wasn't a long one from the train station, but it felt like hours with the people behind him talking endlessly. Seriously, did they ever shut up? “We're here...” Aizawa said finally, glancing back at the others as he stopped in front of the building. It wasn't too large, but the sign above the cafe windows made it obvious what this place was. Maybe they would all finally be quiet-
“Hey, I've heard of this place!” Nemuri suddenly called excitedly, running up so she could get a better look at the front of the building. It was clear that she had no intentions of being quiet at this point, and Aizawa sighed to himself. “It's a cat cafe! I've heard they have amazing food here too, and their online reviews are fantastic.”
Every one of them stared up at the large sign above the cafe, probably taking in the cat ear design above the name of the place. Aizawa decided it wasn't worth waiting for them, and just went inside without a word. He managed to get up to the counter before they all followed him in quickly, all looking around with a fascinated look.
“Why hello there Aizawa. You're a little late today, aren't you?” The woman behind the counter joked with a smile, pulling out the check-in board and setting it in front of him. “Are these friends of yours?” The raven just shrugged, writing down his name and usual order before nudging it to the side. “Well, the four of you can look over the menu here and place your order as you check in if you'd like.” She told them, giving them a sweet smile.
The raven stood off to the side, waiting for what seemed like forever for his classmates to decide what they wanted to eat. By the time they finally figured it out, Aizawa had already gotten settled at a table and was munching on a cat shaped cinnamon muffin. “Jeez, can't even wait for us? How rude.” Hizashi said in a joking tone, taking a seat besides him. Everyone else took their own seats around the table, getting out their books and supplies.
“You're the ones who were taking too long to decide what you wanted.” Aizawa argued, biting off one of the ears of his muffin. He honestly just wanted this all to be over at this point, so he could go home and enjoy some peace and quiet. Maybe he'd actually be able to get a good night's sleep tonight, given how tired he already was. God, he just wanted to lay on the table and take a nap until he was woken up because his allotted time was up.
Just as everyone finished setting their stuff up at the table, a gray tabby jumped on to the table next to Aizawa, and he gave a little smile. “Hey Saki.” He said softly, reaching up and scratching behind her ear as she practically erupted with purrs. Saki was one of his favorite cats here, and she always seemed to know when he was visiting. She loved to just sit besides him on the bench or on the table, sometimes even on his lap, and just lay there while he worked. The raven's lap is where she went this time, curling up and just laying there with loud purrs.
Aizawa smiled again, looking back at his work before realizing that everyone was staring at him. His face went a little red, and he cleared his throat, biting his lip as he pet the cat again.
“You like cats, Aizawa?” Yamada asked, tilting his head a little to get a better look at the raven's face. Aizawa looked off to the side, feeling his ears turn pink as he kept his mouth shut. “I mean, not that I really blame you. They're super cute! I just didn't really expect you to like... Well, anything...”
Nemuri gave a little chuckle, covering her mouth to hide her obvious grin, and Aizawa shot her a glare. “Cats are different.” He told the little group as he pet the content feline in his lap. “They don't constantly want attention, and will just leave you alone most of the time. Most of them aren't too loud, and they're pretty easy to take care of.” Without even realizing it, the raven haired teen had slipped back into a light smile as he pet Saki. “Plus they're really cute, and they usually have pretty good intuition on how you're feeling. They're just... Better than people, in a lot of ways...”
“What do you mean?” Yamada asked, sitting back and crossing his arms. “I'm a joy to be around!” Aizawa glared at the blond who, once again, was being too loud for his own good. “So, hey, do you prefer cats to people for a specific reason? Did something happen?”
Nemuri leaned against the table, smiling herself. “Yeah, I'm curious. I mean, don't get me wrong, cats are great and all, but why are you such a prick all the time?” Aizawa tensed a little, honestly uncomfortable with the question. Nothing had really happened in his life to make him prefer cats, they were just easier to understand than people.
“C'mon guys, we don't need to drill Aizawa on his personal life. Let's get back to the homework.” Tensei interrupted, looking a bit upset that the conversation had taken this strange turn. Or maybe he was just trying to keep them from pestering the raven haired boy. Either way, Aizawa was grateful to go back to the work before them.
Aizawa was not enjoying himself. He hadn't even wanted to come to this stupid party, only doing so because Hizashi had asked him about a zillion times. Now he was stuck playing truth or dare with a bunch of his peers, most of whom were somewhat drunk. Where the alcohol had come from, the raven haired teen wasn't sure, but it was obvious that almost no one else at the party cared. Hell, Nemuri was fucking plastered at this point, giggling and hiccuping as she reached for the bottle in the middle of the circle.
“Guess it's -hic- my turn to spin, huh?” She said with a lazy grin, flicking her wrist and making the bottle spin. It spun for a bit before landing on Hizashi. Thank fucking god. With how the violet haired girl was acting, it was impossible to determine what she might ask of him. So far during the game, the bottle had only landed on him three times, and he'd just had to answer two questions and drink some hot sauce. “Ooooo, nice. Okay 'Zashi, truth or dare?” She asked the blond, who thought about it for a long moment before grinning.
“Dare all the way, Nemuri!” He said, sounding confident in himself despite not knowing what he would be doing.
Nemuri thought about it for a long while before grinning widely. “Alright... I dare you to do 7 minutes in heaven with Shouta.” She said, pointing at Aizawa as his face fell. Why him..? Why was she always picking on him..? Did she have something against him or something, or did she just like messing with him? “And, as an added bonus for him, afterwards he gets one free pass to skip a future dare.”
The blond actually paused at that, glancing at Aizawa's distraught expression and frowning. He looked back at the violet haired girl. “Can I get another dare? I don't that's very fair to Shouta.” Hizashi said, and the raven haired boy gave a relieved sigh. At least he wouldn't be stuck in a closet for seven minutes...
However, Nemuri's grin just got wider. “If you don't want that one, then you have to eat one of the beetles from the garden. Kan can even go pick one for you, right hun?” She asked coyly, turning to the large white haired boy to her left. He gave a nod, already moving to stand up.
Of course, Hizashi's face went white as a sheet. “Okay okay I'll do the seven minutes in heaven!” He said quickly, quirk activating just a little and rattling the windows behind Aizawa. The raven activated his own quirk, hair going up as his eyes glowed red. Thankfully, it wasn't necessary, as the blond had lowered his voice. “Just... Don't make me eat a beetle...” He murmured, shuddering a little as though the thought was unbearable.
Wait... Was he...
Aizawa didn't get a chance to finish that thought as Nemuri giggled. “Alright, it's settled then. Into the closet you two. And hand over your phones, so I know you're not cheating.” She told them, holding out her hand with a sadistic smile. Both boys gave a sigh, standing and handing over their mobiles. Then, the two were unceremoniously shoved into the closet as the violet haired girl gave them a wink. “Have fun you two.” And with that, the door was shut and the small room went dark.
The two boys were silent for a long minute before the blond finally broke the tension. “Nice weather we're having, yeah?” He asked, and Aizawa responded by trying to punch him in the arm. Of course, he missed by a mile and nearly punched Hizashi in the face. “Whoa there.” He half cried out, trying to step back and tripping over something. The raven haired teen tried to grab him and keep him from falling, only to be pulled down right alongside him.
Aizawa gave a little groan, pushing himself up and looking down at what he hoped was Hizashi's face. “You okay?” He asked, shifting back a little so the blond had room to get up.
“Fine.” Hizashi said with a hiss, knocking something else over as he sat up. Suddenly, the raven haired boy could very clearly see Hizashi's face in the dark directly in front of his. They were no more than three inches away from one another, and even the blond paused for a moment.
God, Aizawa was happy that the closet was nearly pitch black, lest Hizashi see how red his face was right now. “O-Oh, um... H-Hi there.” The raven stuttered out, glancing away a bit. Fuck, this was embarrassing... Why did he have to be in here with Hizashi of all people? “S-Sorry, I'll just-”
The blond grabbed Aizawa's arm suddenly, making him jump. “You don't have to move.” He said almost too quickly, like he was trying to get it out before he could stop himself. “I'd kinda prefer to be able to see you, y'know? Less creepy in here.” Hizashi's voice was almost quiet now, like he was lost in thought.
“Are you afraid of bugs?” The raven asked suddenly, even surprising himself. It was an out of the blue question, totally unprompted, but he needed to break the awkward tension that seemed to be settling over them. Hizashi stared at him for a moment before opening his mouth, but Aizawa interrupted him. “I mean, it's not a bad thing, but you just seemed fucking terrified when Nemuri dared you to eat a beetle.” Honestly, he couldn't really see the big deal himself, but then again he wasn't the one afraid of insects.
The blond hesitated for another moment before nodding, looking away. “Super uncool, I know... They're just so... Ugh, I can't even describe it without feeling like I'm gonna pass out.” Hizashi said shakily, reaching up and rubbing the back of his neck. “I-It's not just, like, beetles and stuff either. I don't like worms, or spiders, or moths. They're just too creepy.” Aizawa gave a little nod, accepting that answer. It made sense, in a way. He looked up when Hizashi started talking again. “So, um... Do you know how this game, like, works?”
The raven rolled his eyes, huffing a little. “Yes, I know how to play seven minutes in heaven, Hizashi.” He told the blond, tone just a little condescending. Maybe it was even just a little rude, but he really hated stupid questions that should have obvious answers. “Just because I've never played before, doesn't mean I don't know the rules.”
“R-Right... Yeah, okay.” Hizashi muttered running his hand through his short blond hair. He let out a long breath. “So, you know that, generally, when people are in here... When they're here they'll...”
“Kiss?” The raven interrupted, starting to wonder where Hizashi was going with this.
“Y-Yeah...” The blond murmured, looking away now. Aizawa wondered if his face was as red as his eyes, color hidden by the lack of light in the small closet. “Well... D-Do you want to?” Hizashi asked shyly, as though he was unsure of himself for once.
That actually gave Aizawa pause for a moment. Did he want to? What kind of question was that? There wouldn't be a point to it, whether he wanted to or not. There was nothing to gain from it in the long run, so what reason would he have to do it?
“You could always do it just to do it.”
The raven paused at the thought. He was always so... Meticulous in everything he did, whether it be for school or not, and he never really gave himself much free time. He always felt like he was falling behind everyone else, like he needed to catch up somehow. But, that wasn't true anymore, was it? He was one of the top students in class 2-A so far, and he had no intention of letting his grades slip at this point. Not only that, but he had his friends to help him now. So, maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a little fun every now and again...
“Yeah... Okay...” Aizawa breathed before he could talk himself out of it. He watched the blond's eyes widen a fraction in the darkness, only for him to swallow and nod. Hizashi moved forward slowly, obviously wary and waiting for the raven haired teen to change his mind. “For fucks sake.” Aizawa muttered, surging forward the rest of the way and connecting their lips. The blond gasped, freezing in place for a split-second before regaining his senses and pressing against him again.
Aaaaand, that was pretty much the extent of Aizawa's kissing knowledge. He might have been sixteen, but he'd never really had the opportunity to do this before now. As far as first kisses go, he didn't think it was so bad, but —
Oh god...
Hizashi was his first kiss.
His best fucking friend was his first kiss.
That thought almost had him pulling away, pulling away and wishing this had never happened, but then the blond's hand cupped his cheek and then it was his turn to freeze as his eyes shot open. Hizashi's own eyes were closed, and he seemed... Relaxed. Like he was enjoying this. The raven clenched his fist, mentally frowning. Had he done this before? Had he kissed someone else? It was almost shocking how much that thought hurt, the twinge of pain it sent through his chest making him pull back a little.
The blond opened his eyes, looking confused even in the darkness. “Y-You good? Do you want to stop?” He asked, voice almost sounding a little breathless, only to quickly backpedal. “I-I mean, it's fine if you do, I was just-”
“No.” Aizawa interrupted, not really knowing which question he was answering. Why was he jealous that Hizashi may have kissed someone before this? It wasn't any of his business who he was with, especially like that, but... But his heart didn't really seem to care about that, throbbing painfully in his chest as he took a deep breath to steady himself. “I just... I don't know how to... I've never done this before...” The raven settled on, glancing away with a bit of shame. He was awful, selfish, disgusting, pitiful, and a million other terrible things, and he didn't deserve to want this so badly when the blond could be in here with someone else, he didn't deserve to-
Aizawa's thoughts were cut off with a short laugh from the blond, who grinned widely at him. “Well... I'm glad I'm not the only one.” He told him, tilting his head a little. “I've never kissed anyone either, if you can believe that. Never wanted to until...” Hizashi trailed off, biting his lip as he went silent.
“Until?” The raven prompted, actually shifting a little closer and looking Hizashi in the eye. This close, he could smell the cheap, flowery perfume the blond had been dared to put on what seemed like hours ago.
Hizashi chewed on his lower lip for a long moment before releasing it, glancing at Aizawa sheepishly. “Until... I got to know you...” The raven haired man's eyes widened, but Hizashi kept talking. “I mean, you seemed like a jerk when we first met, but after a while you were really fun to hang out with, and I guess I kinda started falling for you after we went to that cat cafe last year, but I was just-”
The raven leaned forward and captured Hizashi's lips again, effectively shutting him up. Aizawa stayed there for a long moment before pulling away just a little. “You talk too much.” He murmured softly, pressing their lips together again, and this time the blond melted into it. This wasn't too bad, Aizawa decided, even if they were both clueless when it came to kissing.
Then, Hizashi tilted his head to the side a little, and the angle was much better and it caused Aizawa to hum into the kiss. He moved his lips a little against the blond's, causing him to reciprocate in kind with a low hum of his own. His hands went up to tangle into raven black hair, and Aizawa actually shivered a little as he gave an experimental tug at the dark locks. The two stayed like that for a while, just enjoying the feeling of their lips moving together, but every good thing has to come to an end. It did for the boys when they faintly heard the sound of a timer dinging out in the other room, both stiffening and quickly untangling themselves from one another before they were caught.
Everything was quiet for a long few moments, and Aizawa was starting to wonder if maybe they'd just imagined the sound, until the closet door was suddenly flung open and light flooded the small room. Nemuri stood there with a grin on her face, which fell when she saw them just sitting there. “Aww, come on!” She whined, crossing her arms. “Did you guys really not do anything?”
“It's not like we had to...” Aizawa responded, standing up and glancing back at the blond. He had been right, Hizashi's face was a deep shade of pink, but anyone else would probably assume it was because the embarrassment of someone assuming they'd gotten up to anything. The thought almost made the raven smile, but he settled for just holding out his hand towards him. “You coming, 'Zashi?”
Said blond looked up at him and smiled, taking his hand and pulling himself up. “Thanks.” He mumbled, holding his hand a little longer then necessary before releasing it and heading back to the circle. Aizawa bit back a smile, following him with this little secret of theirs settling into the back of his mind.
Maybe this party wasn't such a bad idea after all...
“Hello..? Earth to Shouta.” The all too familiar voice called from besides him, and Aizawa looked over at the loud blonde he'd fallen in love with all those years ago. “You alright? You zoned out there for a while.” Hizashi asked, face contorted with worry.
Aizawa smiled a little, sitting back on their maroon couch and stretching. “Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking about us.” He told the blond, settling back down into his chair with a glance at him. Hizashi no longer looked worried, but rather confused. Or maybe curious, it was hard to tell. “Thinking back on all those little things we used to do, y'know?”
The voice hero smiled then, leaning forward and kissing Aizawa's forehead. “Yeah, I know. I do it all the time, wondering how I got so lucky.” He told him quietly, and the erasure hero gave a little chuckle. Hizashi pulled back with a grin. “What? You don't think I'm lucky to have you?”
Aizawa smiled up at the blond, reaching up and cupping his cheek. He smiled back, leaning into the touch a little. “I'm pretty sure it's the other way around, babe.” He murmured, pulling Hizashi down into a soft kiss. Not even two seconds later, a loud meow came from the erasure hero's feet, and the two heroes pulled apart. The raven haired man chuckled at the gray cat, patting his lap. “Fine. C'mere Haruki, you needy bastard.”
As soon as the words left his lips, the gray ball of fluff jumped up into his lap, rubbing his face on Hizashi's glasses. Both men gave a laugh as they gave their needy cat affection between their own kisses. It was definitely everything that Aizawa wanted, and he held those memories close as they both smiled into the kisses.
