Breaking News: The two members of the Pro Hero duo Rainforest, Lizardy, and Vine, are in critical condition tonight. After being ambushed by the League of Villains both heroes managed to escape but not before sustaining massive injuries. In a strange turn of events, medical professionals say that in the process of evaluating the heroes both of their quirk levels were read at zero...
Everything was going to plan.
Tomura looked out across the sunset washed Musutafu with a smile on his face. The power of All For One hummed in his veins in time with the beat of his heart. How many hero's quirks had he stolen now? He'd stopped counting a while ago. It wasn't in his best interest to keep a tally, it was better to categorize them by type so he could call on them quickly.
They'd been doing hit and run ambushes for weeks now. Find a hero and take them out. Kill them if possible and at the very least take their quirk. Edgeshot's Foldabody quirk had become one of his favorites, perfect for a sneak attack.
Of course, he couldn't have all the fun. The League had paid their dues to him in sweat and blood and they deserved to be let off the leash. So he let Dabi kill Endeavor. He let Toga go out on her own and bleed out everyone she met. He let Spinner kill all the shitty heroes he wanted. They had earned their reward. Tomura only tagged along when there was a target with a particularly juicy quirk he could add to his arsenal.
And he had so many quirks. He was still figuring out all the ones that had been given to him by Sensei. It was hard knowing that by giving Tomura his power Sensei would die immediately since only the power of All For One kept him alive. But Sensei believed in him. And Tomura was ready.
"I'll show you everything from Heaven to Hell."
As Tomura mused he got a notification from Red Alert. Red Alert was a quirk Sensei had the good sense to nab off a guard on the way out of Tartarus. Red Alert allowed him to choose targets, he hadn't figured out the limit yet, and be alerted as to when they were in danger. Very useful for a Tartarus guard and now very useful for Tomura to know when the League might need him as backup. Currently, his beacons for Toga and Twice were pinging.
Honestly, they could probably handle it without him. Who knows whose blood, and therefore quirk, Toga had squirreled away and Twice could take out an enemy by sheer force of numbers. But Tomura was bored, so why not go fuck some people up to kill time? Tomura stood from where he sat on the roof of UA, they should really put sensors up here or something now that they had Kurogiri back and the famous UA barrier meant nothing to him, it did have the best view of the city after all, and first activated Search to pinpoint his comrades and then activated his teleportation quirk, rancid black sludge whisking him away from the sanctuary of heroes.
Tomura materialized in a dark alley just in time for someone to plow into him. It was so unexpected he didn't even have time to catch himself with a quirk, he just hit the ground, knocking the wind out of him, with a body on top of him.
"Tomura-kun!" The person on top of him squeaked.
"Toga." Tomura coughed. She rolled off of him and allowed him to get back up. "What's going on? Wheres Twice?" He asked catching his breath.
"It's a team of heroes," she explained quickly as she began to transform. "Jin is holding them off so I can change."
"Which heroes?" Tomura asked as the face of Creati appeared out of Toga's quirk sludge.
"It's Izuku-kun." She said, dreamily. "And Hawkie's boy Tsukuyomi."
Tomura frowned. Fucking Hawks had always been more trouble than he was worth but he would have been useful right now. Oh well, he didn't have a quirk that could bring back the dead yet.
"You and Twice take care of Tsukuyomi, I want his quirk. I'll take Midoriya." Tomura ordered. Toga made to protest but a stern look sent her away muttering. Tomura pulled Father out of his coat pocket and placed him in his rightful place.
Tomura had always wanted a secret weapon. A trump card he could pull out that no one knew about. He had so many quirks now but it was important to be seen using the ones he stole, particularly the quirks of former heroes. It always caused a breakdown in society somewhere when he used a hero's quirk to take out a target.
But he saved one. The only person who knew about it was Toga because he helped him train with it. He hadn't taken it from a hero, just a normal civilian who happened to be caught up in one of their attacks. She'd used it on Toga and Tomura had seen it and taken it. And now it was going to give him Midoriya.
He stepped out of the alley. There were approximately 100 Twices keeping Midoriya and Tsukuyomi busy. Toga was using Creati's quirk to make grenades to keep the heroes separated. Tomura grabbed a passing Twice by the arm.
"Boss! Why are you here?" he asked.
"Thought you could use some help." Tomura shrugged. "Make a Dabi, Dark Shadow doesn't do well against fire."
"Can't you just use Endeavor's quirk on him, boss?" the Twice asked. Tomura shook his head.
"Midoriya is my target."
"Ah. Yep. Got it." the Twice nodded vigorously and ran off to find a clone who could make a Dabi.
Tomura caught a flash of green lighting and a cracking sound and saw a group of Twices fly back entangled in a black line. He grinned behind father and activated Air Walk, floating over the battle to clearly see Midoriya.
"Midoriya Izuku. Hero Name Deku. Quirk One for All. Secondary quirks Blackwhip, Recoil, and Bounce. Or have you figured out the rest of them since the last time we met?"
Midoriya spun around, dropping Blackwhip in surprise, and barely catching himself from replying. Tomura was impressed. He must be remembering that BrainGames was missing and Tomura might have his quirk which, of course, he did.
Midoriya launched himself into the air and threw a whip. Lazily Tomrua flicked a wrist and brought up a forcefield between him and Midoriya. Midoriya slammed into it and was thrown back to earth forcing him to use Bounce to soften his landing.
"That's a cool quirk, I wish I could take it." Tomura taunted. Midoriya launched himself again. Ever since Midoriya had figured out Recoil Tomura had to figure out a way to fight him without using brute force as Recoil just collected impact force and delt the damage back. It was tricky, but he had quirks that delt non-impact damage so he focused on those. Tomura had never been a punching sort of guy anyway.
So he played with Midoriya. He hit him with the electrification quirk he took from that annoying Chargebolt kid who had never been good with it anyway. He used his old favorite Foldabody to get behind him and blast him with Hellflame. Eventually,, Midoriya couldn't fight in the air anymore so Tomura dropped Air Walk and joined him on the ground.
"I should have known you wouldn't fall for Brainwash for me. You always did fall for BrainGames though didn't you? I wanted to recruit him you know, but he wouldn't break in the end. I couldn't keep him around obviously, the quirk is useful against idiots though."
Midoriya still didn't reply, Tomura really thought he might if he told him one of his school friends was dead as he had been very publicly emotional when Chargebolt had died. Instead, he ran at him from across the square they had landed in.
A perfect moment for his secret weapon.
Calmly he removed Father from his face and locked eyes with the charging Midoriya.
Midoriya froze instantly.
"Do you like Medusa?" Tomura asked quickly crossing the square. "It only works so long as I keep eye contact with you. Remind's me of Eraserhead's quirk, I gotta give it to him, it's shit to work with but very useful." He stopped in front of Midoriya, forcing his eyes to stay open. He raised his hand. Decay was still his favorite way to kill. "Goodbye, Midoriya Izuku."
His hand had barely ghosted toward his face when something embedded itself in his shoulder. He screamed and broke eye contact and Midoriya dropped to the ground. Tomura immediately activated Air Walk and hit the sky. He frantically patted his shoulder until his hand hit a handle. He ripped the...knife...out of his shoulder and decayed it immediately.
"TOGA!" he roared. He dropped out of the sky and activated Vine as soon as he hit the ground. A tangle of vines exploded out of the ground and wrapped themselves around Midoriya before he could attack again. The vines wrapped themselves around the young hero's throat tightening slowly and preventing him from breaking out.
"Tomura-kun, no!" Toga ran up to Tomura, back in her own form. Tomura grabbed her by the throat, one finger raised, so her toes brushed the ground.
"I should kill you Toga." He hissed. "How dare you betray me."
"Tomura-kun!" She sobbed. "You promised!"
"I promised what?" he screamed. Out of the corner or his eye he saw, what he thought was the original, Twice run for them but he threw up a forcefield to keep him out.
"You promised!" She cried again. "Years ago! Back in Ujiko's lab! You said our wishes were separate! You said we deserved to get what we wanted! You said we could keep the things we loved!" She pointed over to the struggling Midoriya, his face was blue.
"I love Izuku! You know I do! I have since we started! You can't kill him because I want to keep him! You promised Tomura-kun, you promised!"
Tomura flashed back to years ago. Before they had Machia. Before they broke everyone out of prison. Back to when he and the League had nothing.
He remembered. He remembered standing in Ujiko's lab and talking about he wanted to destroy everything. He remembered Toga stopping him to ask if the things she loved would be destroyed too. And he remembered telling her no. No, they would not be.
He dropped Toga and she fell to her knees, rubbing her throat. He dropped the forcefield and Twice ran forward scooping her up in his arms.
"I'm sending you back to base," Tomura said sharply.
"But..." Toga coughed from against Twice's chest.
"No buts." Tomura interrupted. And then Twice and Toga were gone in a glob of sludge.
Tomura saw Dark Shadow coming at him and threw up a wall of fire with Hellflame. He crossed back to Midoriya and grabbed the vine around his neck, feeling it rot against his fingers.
"You are so lucky, you little brat. You are lucky today and today only. You best keep working on those quirks because next time I will not be swayed."
Midoriya's arm broke free and threw a wild haymaker at Tomura's head but all Midoriya's fist met was ooze as Tomrua disappeared.
Tomura did not immediately go back to base. He needed to calm down. He still had it in him to kill Toga so he couldn't go back. So he walked. Like he used to do back when it was just him, Kurogiri, and Sensei. He teleported his family back to base and went full civilian. Just a young man wandering around the waterfront. There weren't a lot of people around this time of night. Mostly homeless folks, maybe a few unsavory people, but no one tried to mess with him. No one bothered him. So he wandered around the tied up boats and eventually just sat on the edge of a dock, letting his feet swing above the water.
He should have killed that little fuck. He was his arch-enemy, his ultimate rival, the only person alive who could possibly defeat him. Toga would get over it. She would find someone else to be obsessed with. It's not like he hadn't broken promises before.
But not to the League, a little voice in his head said.
No, he had never broken a promise to the League. To the five people who had stuck with him all these years. They were his allies. He trusted them. He wasn't ashamed to admit he cared about them. They were his friends.
And they trusted him. No, he wouldn't break a promise to them.
He'd talk to Toga. Try to make her understand why he had to be eliminated. But if she said no...
He supposed that little shit would just get to keep living.
