“W-who?” The ghost looked lost, still struggling against him. “Don’t know! Don’t know!” It kept whining, a hurt, broken sound that Xie Lian fought the urge to soothe and hush.
“You don’t know, huh.” Xie Lian tightened his grip, eyes narrowing. “Why’d you steal my dagger? Are you a thief?”
“No! No!” The ghost slammed its head against the trunk, a wail in its words. “Dianxia, no!”
