Work Text:

Chargebolt, also known as Kaminari Denki, knew he wasn’t the luckiest guy in the world, but this was ridiculous. He was standing on the rooftop of a collapsing building, alone. A villain with an earthquake quirk had just attacked the area, and Chargebolt’s agency was in charge of evacuating the buildings. Everyone else had made it out before the collapse started, and he had rescued the last civilian. Right after the final civilian had reached safety, another attack was launched and the building began collapsing.

Kaminari knew he didn’t have a quirk that could save him. The only thing he could do was overload the building’s electrical systems and shut off the power so a fire didn’t start. After he did that, there was nothing else he could do. He couldn’t jump, he was at least 30 stories up. He couldn’t go down the stairs, since they had caved in when the collapse started. He was stuck, and as far as he knew all the heroes around him were preoccupied fighting or saving additional civilians. He’d just have to wait and hope the building didn’t crush him.

“Chargebolt! Location?” his radio cried out.

“Shoto! I’m on top of the office building the others just ran out of. Are you okay?” Kaminari felt a bubble of hope in his chest.

“I’m fine. We have him restrained, we’re doing cleanup now. That building’s collapsing, are you on your way out?”

“About that. There’s not really a way for me to get out that’s not suicide. I’m waiting for it to go down so I can jump out at the last second or crawl my way out from the ground.”

“That’s also suicide. Don’t you dare.”

“Well what am I supposed to do then, Shoto?”

“Denki. Do you trust me? I can get you out, but you have to trust me on this.”

“Of course I trust you.”

Silence. Kaminari sighed, watching the building move inch by inch. He was too calm, but there wasn’t anything he could do. Why uselessly panic? He was brought out of his thoughts by someone yelling. Shoto.

“Denki! Can you hear me?” Kaminari rushed towards the edge of the building where he heard the voice.

“Shoto!” Suddenly, his mind went blank. He was no longer in control of his body.

“Chargebolt, jump!” Kaminari’s body ran and launched off the side of the building. He felt cloth wrap around him as he fell and he was pulled into someone’s body. His mind went clear again, he was in control. He let himself breathe for a moment before he looked at his savior.

“Hitoshi! You saved me!” Kaminari grinned at the purple haired hero.

“Shoto’s orders. Let’s go before this thing collapses for real.” The two ran with Shinsou in the lead. “All civilians are safe, and with you, all the heroes accounted for and alive.”

“Who’s hurt?” Shinsou stayed silent. Kaminari was about to ask again when they came upon the hero’s basecamp. He saw Ashido nursing a bent wrist, Tokoyami slumped against the wall in a dark corner, and Yaoyorozu playing nurse for everyone, creating any materials she needed. But only one person mattered to Kaminari. He looked frantically around until he saw him, laying on the floor with his leg completely wrapped in bandages. Kaminari bolted away from Shinsou and quickly kneeled next to his boyfriend.

“Denki, you’re okay.” Shoto barely cracked an eye open, and his voice was weak. Kaminari gently grasped his hand.

“I’m okay, but you’re not. What happened? You said you were fine!”

“I was when I said that. Then debris came.” Shoto gestured to his leg. “We don’t know how bad it is. Yaomomo did the best she could. I might be out of commission for a while.” Shoto grimaced at the thought.

“You know it’s fine.”

“Will you stay with me?”

“Of course I will.”

“No, I mean, do you want to move in with me? Just until my leg heals?” The last part was added quietly, almost as if Shoto didn’t want it to end.

“Of course I will.” They smiled at each other, excited at the thought. Shoto closed his eyes again, and Kaminari rubbed his thumb against Shoto’s hand. They stayed in silence for a while, calming down from the excitement. They weren’t needed anymore, so there was no rush for Kaminari. Suddenly, Shoto broke the silence.

“Denki?”

“What’s up?”

“Thanks for trusting me.” Kaminari leaned down and placed a kiss on Shoto’s cheek.

“I’ll always trust you.”
