Small Blessings

Summary:

Bakugou makes an interesting dicovery during his usual bus ride to campus. A Phone. A phone with a obnoxious call tone and a disgustingly red cover. A phone that brings with it not only an amusing phone call but also the most gorgeous person he has ever seen in his entire (allbeit short) life.
So a small meeting to return the phone turns into a childhood friend betraying him by giving his number out to strangers. well one stranger. But a absolutely stunning stranger who seems to make Katsuki weak in the knees and way too warm in his cheeks.

Work Text:

The rattling of the bus windows were getting on his nerves. He groaned, lifting his head from where he had rested it against the window, a low headache throbbing at the base of his skull from all the shaking the bus was doing. as he trailed his eyes across the various empty seats across from him, he noticed a small blanket with paint flecks on it, folded on one of the seats. He frowned, leaning forward in his seat, boots thudding softly against the bus’s floor when he lowered his legs to the ground. He stretched across the aisle, curious about the little piece of bright red of something peeking out from under the paint splattered blanket. He tugged the blanket off the object and sat back with a small scowl. It was only a phone.

Nothing all that interesting. Well apart from the garishly shocking bright red cover on the thing. He sighed, picking it up anyway before settling back onto his seat, spreading his legs out on the one next to his own and leaning back against the windowed side of the bus again.

With his lip trapped between his teeth he stared down at the phone almost as if was offending him with its bright colour. With a huff of annoyance at himself he pressed the unlock button on the side, watching the screen flicker to life. He snorted at the picture of Crimson Riot, an old comic book character he was well familiar with from his childhood days of freaking out over All Might and other superheroes, taking up the space on the unlock screen.

Unfortunately that wouldn’t help him to find the owner, not that he was really all that bothered with finding who the phone belonged to, after all the idiot had been forgetful enough to leave it behind so why would he consider that his problem? He scowled when he saw that there was a passcode that had to be entered.

With nothing else to do he started typing a few random numbers, a few birth years, the normal 0000 and 1234 some people used to lock their phones until he settled for just button mashing something into the keyboard when none of the others worked.

It was kind of a good distraction from the bus’s rattling, his minor headache all but forgotten. That is until the phone in hand started blaring loudly in the quiet space. He cringed at the obnoxiously loud ringtone before swiping to answer, just to make the noise stop.

“What?!”

There was a scuffle on the other end of the line, multiple voices making noise but none clear enough for him to understand the conversation, at least not until “Dude! Someone answered. Here, take it!” came through crystal clear through the speaker. He rolled his eyes, listening as the phone changed hands and the background got a little more quiet.

“Hello?” the voice sounded almost cautious.

“Tch, hi.”

“Oh! Good, for a second I was worried Kami was screwing with me.” He could hear the smile on the guy’s face as he talked. A nervous little laugh filtered through the speaker. It made his lip twitch involuntarily. God it sounded almost cute. Katsuki shook his head at himself, scowling at nothing in particular. No way was he gonna sit there and think of someone he didn’t know as cute.

“Uh you still there dude?” the guy asked when Katsuki didn’t answer for more than a minute.

“I’m here.”

“Okay, well uh you kinda have my phone.”

“I’m aware of that.”

“Well I mean I kinda need it back, so uh maybe we could just meet and I could get it from you.”

“No.” Katsuki said bluntly. He didn’t have time to waste today, not with how busy his class schedule was lately.

“No?” the guy was frowning, he sounded confused by the outright refusal.

“Give him back his phone you thief!” the voice from the beginning of the call yelled.

“Kami shush.”

“No, he stole your phone Kiri. What kind of a jackass does that huh?” the two men on the other end of the line argued back and forth.

“Fuck you dipshit, I didn’t steal anything. I found it on the bloody bus, because Kiri – or what the fuck ever lost it, you know, like a dumbass.”

“Whoa dude, chill,” there was a small chuckle, “and it’s Kirishima.”

“Whatever.”

“So are you really not gonna give me my phone back?”

“I’m  busy.”

“With…?” Kirishima prompted patiently. Why wasn’t this guy getting offended with Katsuki’s attitude towards him. Usually one explosion of swears was enough to scare off most people.

“Class.”

“Oh!” the guy sounded way happier about that than he should have been at that answer.

“Where do you go? I live close to most of the Uni’s, maybe I could meet you after to get my phone.”

“No.” Katsuki pushed down the little smirk that threatened to form on his lips at the small noise that sounded half like a whine that Kirishima let loose.

“Dude, c’mon. Why not?”

“Because I don’t need some idiot with a Crimson Riot screen saver showing up at campus to bug me.”

“Ugh, you saw that?”

“Kinda hard to miss Red.”

“Red?”

“Your stupid phone cover. Fucking thing’s so red it’s gonna blind someone.”

Kirishima laughed, a deep throaty noise that stuttered out of him and made Katsuki’s scowl disappear in surprise at the sound.

“Fuck man. Red’s a good colour, don’t judge me. For all I know your cover is worse than mine.”

“It’s not. And black’s not gonna blind anyone as far as I know.”

“Of course it’d be black.” Kirishima mumbled, Katsuki narrowed his eyes, opening his mouth to respond but Kirishima spoke over him again.

“If today doesn’t work for you then can we please just arrange a time and place to meet? I really need to get my phone back, I got most of my notes for a really important assignment on that thing and without them I’m gonna fail the class.”

“Tch. Should have guessed you’re the kind of dumbass who makes notes on a phone. Fine, Red. My next class in in twenty minutes. If you can meet me at the front entrance of Yuuei in fifteen then you can get your phone back.”

“Got it! Thanks man, I owe you one for this, you sound pretty busy. I mean I can only assume since I don’t really know but-”

“You’re rambling Red.”

“Right right. Sorry.”

“Hmm.”

“Uh one more question though, what do you look like? I just need to know how to find you.”

“Just look for the guy in the skull shirt and leather jacket.”

“Got it. See you dude.” Katsuki rolled his eyes and pressed the end button for the call with a small huff. He stuffed the phone into his jeans pocket just as the bus stopped. It was a short walk to the campus from the bus stop and he slung his bag over his shoulder before climbing off and heading in the direction of the school.

A green haired bundle of too much energy came bouncing up to him as soon as he stepped through the gate.

“Hi Kacchan!”

“Deku.” He grumbled in greeting.

“You okay?” he asked after a minute, frowning at the taller blonde boy.

“Fine. Tired. Classed are getting… just a lot, s’all.” Midoriya nodded, bumping shoulders with Katsuki, smiling at him.

“At least it’s weekend right, you can rest up a bit.” Katsuki sighed and shook his head.

“Not really. Gotta work this weekend.”

“Oh.” Midoriya chewed on the inside of his cheek before he started mumbling under his breath, Katsuki was so use to it at this point that he just ignored it.

“Hey I know! I can convince Kayama-san to let me trade shifts with you. I mean then you can take next weekend to work.”

“Don’t need you to do that Deku. I’m not going to break under a bit of strain.”

Midoriya sighed, grasping Katsuki’s shoulder tightly and forcing the blonde to look him in the eye.

“I didn’t say that you would and this is in no way me implying that you’re weak or some such bullshit, okay? This is literally me saying that you need to rest a little, plus I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get off next weekend because Todoroki wants to go out next Saturday. So really, you trading work weekends with me would be helping me. I’d owe you one for this.” Katsuki scowled at his childhood friend.

He knew perfectly well that Izuku was just trying to convince him by saying that he’d be the one indebted to Katsuki, unfortunately the green haired boy had known him long enough to know exactly how to talk to and convince the blonde to do things. He had gotten way too good at deciphering his ‘Katsuki-speak’ as his mother called it.

“Tch. Fine you damn nerd. But I’m going to hold you to that owing thing.” Midoriya beamed at him and nodded, curly hair bouncing ridiculously with the movement. His smile changed slightly into a more welcoming grin as his eyes focused on something behind him. It made Katsuki frown before he felt a small tap on his shoulder.

He turned, signature displeased scowl in place until he laid eyes on possibly the most attractive person he had ever seen in his life. His jaw dropped open only for him to snap it shut again in seconds with an audible click, he deepened his scowl on purpose.

The guy in front of him was smiling at him. Revealing ridiculously sharp pointed teeth that a small part of Katsuki’s brain focussed on, wondering briefly what those points would feel like pressed against his skin.

He trailed his eyes slowly over the man, his shoulders filled out the t-shirt he was wearing almost sinfully and the fabric clung to this well-toned chest like second skin. Leaving nothing to the imagination. His jeans weren’t much looser than the shirt, it hugged his muscled thighs and calves so well that it made Katsuki’s heart beat a little harder and his mouth feel too dry all of a sudden. He snorted involuntarily when he trailed his eyes up and noticed his hair. His stupidly spiked up red hair. At least the nickname had been fitting.

“Leather jacket and skull shirt. Didn’t think you’d be blonde though but  I was kind of expecting the scowl.” Kirishima grinned at him as Katsuki tried to swallow the lump that had formed in his throat.

“Hello, don’t think I’ve met you before. I’m Midoriya Izuku, how do you know Kacchan?” Of course Deku would be fucking friendly and nice to the person who made Katsuki’s feel a little bit light headed. Not that he’s ever admit that out loud.

“Uh, I don’t really know him. He found my phone on the bus so…” Kirishima rubbed at the back of neck, revealing muscles in his arms that flexed enticingly as he moved.

“Oh! And I’m Kirishima Eijirou. Nice to meet you.” Deku nodded and nudged Katsuki. He merely grumbled and fished the phone out of his pocket.

“You got here fast.” He grumbled.

“Ah, well, uh,” he let loose another one of those nervous giggles that made Katsuki’s lips twitch, “I kind of go here too. I mean I’m in the art department mostly which is probably why I’ve never seen you around before because I don’t think I’d forget seeing you around here, but uh yeah.” Kirishima’s cheeks flushed a pretty pink that nearly made Katsuki fumble with the phone in his hand but he tightened his grip on the thing and pushed it against his chest.

“Here then. Don’t loose it again Shitty hair.”

Deku gasped next to him, throwing his hands in the air and glaring at the blonde.

“Bakugou! You can’t just- ” his scolding was cut off by Kirishima’s loud laugh. The red-head lifted a hand to his hair and grinned at the duo in front of him.

“That’s alright Midoriya. Suppose that’s what some people would call this.” He gestured to his hair, smiling still.

“But,” he continued, eyes flickering to Katsuki, filled with amusement, “our hair’s not all that different dude.” His smile widened and he chuckled at the way Katsuki’s mouth opened and at his narrowed eyes. Midoriya watched them interacting, frowning slightly as he took in Katsuki’s reaction to the other man.

“Tch, fuck off would you.” Katsuki grumbled, his ears feeling suspiciously warm as he turned and made a beeline for the building his class was held in.

“See you around Bakugou!” Kirishima yelled after him, smile still evident in his voice. He flipped him off half-heartedly, Kirishima’s laughter the only sound following him as he walk away.

“He’s something else huh?” Kirishima said quietly, watching the blonde walk away from him. Midoriya nodded next to him.

“He’s not bad, just doesn’t really know how to be in a social situations. Usually tries to hide himself behind all the,” Midoriya waved his hands through the air, gesturing vaguely to the blonde, “attitude.” He finished softly, letting his hands drop. Kirishima nodded, still grinning in the direction the cute blonde went. He still felt elated over the cute blush that had spread all the way to the tips of the blonde’s ears before he ran away.

“I can tell. Don’t think his attitude’s bad though, he’s just a little rough around the edges.” Midoriya stared at him for a few moments, his stare so calculating that it almost made Kirishima fidget before the green haired boy sighed.

“Okay, Kacchan probably going to kill me when he finds out about this but I’ve never really seen him react like that to anyone. Hell, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him blush before and I’ve known him since childhood. So since you clearly don’t mind his foul mouth and since I think you could be good for him, I’m going to… to give you his number.” Kirishima’s eyes widened comically as he spluttered, Midoriya ignored his attempts at replying and grabbed Kirishima’s hand and a marker from his bag. He scribbled down a series of numbers on his hand and wrote the name Bakugou Katsuki at the top before he stepped back and capped the marker.

“You can text him and tell him that he and I are even now.”

“Trust me.” He added when he saw Kirishima frowning at him. Midoriya turned and left, headed in the same direction Bakugou disappeared into, leaving Kirishima behind, stunned and staring at the numbers on his hand in awe and shock and maybe even a bit of fear.
