Work Text:
Jungkook sleepily shuffles across the marble flooring of the kitchen to the island Namjoon's near, then shifts and adjusts himself till he's able to jump to sit on top of it, legs dangling over the edge.
“Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
The corners of Namjoon's mouth lift up fondly as he takes a good look at their youngest, both of his doe eyes half open and laced with sleep, eyelashes fluttering in a soundless rhythm while he looks through them worriedly.
“Don’t worry about it,” the the elder whispers in his ear as he slowly reaches to stand in between the taller's legs, thumbing lightly at the frown growing between his eyebrows. “Was just thinking.”
He gently slides both of his hands behind the Jungkook's head and carefully pushes their heads close together until their foreheads are touching as Jungkook's hands instinctively reach out to wrap around Namjoon's waist while he hums soundly in response, already satisfied with his vague answer.
Both of them know he won’t push him to elaborate, and Namjoon is so so thankful for him in that moment.
They stay that way for a while, soaking up the feeling of each other’s presence and the assurance of the skin they’re holding onto. Time slows like it does in a cliche rom com and the kitchen fills with the sound of soft breathing, until he opens his mouth.
“I wouldn’t be here without you,” Namjoon confesses softly, almost to himself as he looks at Jungkook with something akin to anxiousness, unsettling the serene nature of the moment they were just basking in.
He thinks he looks delicate from where he is, moonlight streaming through the curtain blinds onto his face- highlighting the soft curve of his mouth and dusting soft shadows over his face- turning him splendent under the lunar light.
“I really wouldn’t. You saved me, and I’m not just talking about your role in the group or anything to do with Bangtan,” he gives him a pointed look, “but when I was in the... darkness.” He concludes slowly but surely, in hopes Jungkook understands the depth to his words.
“I hope you know it’s because of you that I can have these sleepless nights,” he chuckles lightly, “and I mean that in the best way possible.”
Fixing a soft but serious gaze on the brunette, he takes a deep breath and insists, “I need you to know that you’re my light.”

At first Jungkook can’t think of a good response, so he catches both of Namjoon's hands in his and leans back lightly.
The blonde's hands are rough but they feel comfortable as he weaves their fingers together, and Namjoon lets him, even squeezes a little when Jungkook rubs his thumb up and down his thumb.
He smiles a little uncertainly at him and he smiles back, just as uncertain.
“Hmm”, Jungkook hums as he tucks his bottom lip into his mouth, an expression of pensiveness colouring his features. He takes a good look at Namjoon- the moonlit sky illuminating his features as he brushes a thumb over the sharp slant of his cheekbones- and he thinks the elder isn't wrong, but he’s definitely not right.
“I guess,” Jungkook acquiesces eventually in response to Namjoon's abrupt confession, “but I wouldn’t be here without you either, literally.” Jungkook's eyebrows arch with meaning while staring pointedly at him, counting on him to understand the meaning behind his words.
“Because you’re my light too, and I just know for sure that no matter how far into the dark I am, you’ll reach me.”
