Work Text:
Yoongi wasn’t a people person. At all. But the lack of money made him make some very hard decisions which impacted his life greatly. He got a roommate. Enter Taehyung.
Taehyung was nice, clean enough, took out the trash occasionally and was kind of cute. There were very few downsides initially. It was a few months and several incidents, that made him question the situation he got in (that Taehyung got him in).
--------------------------
„Hey, hyung? Yoongi-hyung?” Taehyung turned to the elder.
„Hm? What is it?” Yoongi turned away from the TV. Not that he was paying much attention to what was playing anyway.
„Did I ever tell you about my movie?” the younger flashed Yoongi a boxy smile.
„No. You have a movie?”
„I mean... not yet. But I’m going to make one. It’s going to be about spacemen. In space.”
„Wow, sounds like a something.” Yoongi’s bored voice barely raised above the noise coming from the TV.
„Right? And the spaceman falls out of his ship and then floats in space. And there are going to be really awesome shots of the planets he floats by.”
„Just floats by? He’s not going to any of them?”
„Of course not, hyung. He doesn’t have a spaceship so he can’t get to any of the planets.”
„So, he just floats? Don’t you want to put some kind of action into it?” Yoongi was unwillingly getting sucked into the conversation.
„He just floats. But maybe he gets picked up by humans.”
„Humans? Wouldn’t aliens be better?"
„Oh, come on, hyung,” Taehyung looked slightly disappointed in the elder, „aliens are everywhere. You can’t make anything exciting with them.”
„Right, everywhere. And one is in the room right now.”
„It’s possible. They’re visible only under infrared.”
„Infrared? What the hell, Taehyung.”
„Of course, because they are usually using cloaking technique.”
„Cloaking technique?”
Taehyung looked at Yoongi like he was the least informed person he ever met. „But you wouldn’t be able to see them anyway, hyung. They move too fast for the regular human eye.”
„Oh, like Superman or Flash.”
„No, those are made up comic book characters.”
„Right. Cause we are talking about REAL beings from another planet who move faster than a speeding bullet.”
„Exactly.” Taehyung either didn’t notice or chose to ignore the sarcasm prominent in Yoongi’s voice now.
„Do they at least do something cool with it? Like solve crimes or fight terrorism?”
„You know what, hyung?” the younger seemed slightly offended now. „You never take things seriously.”
„You’re right. I don’t.”
„Just you wait till they come and I will be prepared and you won’t!” Taehyung got up from the chair and left Yoongi alone in their small living room. Yoongi should really rethink his life choices.
------------------------------
„Wow, hyung. You got a really cool jacket.”
Yoongi looked at his old black leather jacket and then back at Taehyung. „Um, thanks?”
„Yeah, you could like totally go to the movies with it!”
„Never thought of that, Taehyung.” Yoongi’s voice got that sarcastic lilt to it. „Wonder where else I can go with it now that I know.”
„It’s no problem! But being you, I would go to see that new Avengers movie.”
„There’s a new one again? But no. If anything, I’m gonna see some new horror.”
Taehyung crinkled his nose (it was really cute). „I don’t like horror movies.”
„I thought it was me who was supposed to go to the movies.”
„Yeah but you know. I would be willing to accompany you. But only if you lend me that jacket.”¨
It was later that evening that Yoongi wondered how it happened that he was watching the Avengers movie, popcorn in hand and a happy Taehyung in his jacket beside him. The mysteries of life.
------------------------
It was three in the morning as his clock informed him. Yoongi, who for once actually went to sleep at midnight, cursed and looked who was calling him in this ungodly hour.
It didn’t surprise him much when he saw that the offender to his sleep was Taehyung. Yoongi considered not picking up the call but after a few more rings it was clear that his roommate is not going to give up that easily so in the end he gave in.
„Hello?”
„Hyung! You need to help me!” Taehyung’s voice was whiny and way too awake for this horrid hour.
„Why would I do that?”
Taehyung ignored him and continued on. „I can’t start the car!”
„You don’t have a car.”
„That’s why it’s such a problem! It’s yours! And I really don’t want to break it. But it doesn’t start up!”
„When did you even- You know what, never mind. Just- just let me sleep.” Yoongi really wanted to hang up.
„But how am I supposed to get home? I want to sleep too.”
„And where are you?”
„At Jimin’s.”
„Why don’t you sleep at his?”
„But hyung,” the whiny tone returned with full force, „He is going at it with Hoseok.”
„Walk home then.”
„But, hyuuuung! What if a ghost eats me!”
„That’s... not gonna happen. More probably is someone going murder you and throw your body in the river and... Okay, fine. Just send me the address and wait there.”
„You’re the best, hyung!”
When the next day Namjoon asked him, why Yoongi looked so tired he just threw the rest of his coffee in his friend’s general direction. He missed.
----------------------------
It was almost a year since he started living with Taehyung. Yoongi was pretty sure he got used to the living with the strange but bright younger boy. Nothing could surprise him anymore.
When he got home at one Friday evening, tired from work and hoping to just eat and go to sleep (very early for once) he caught a very guilty looking Taehyung trying to hide a very distressed looking llama.
A llama. A fucking llama. What. The. Actual. Fuck.
„Taehyung? What the hell?!” Yoongi really wasn’t in the mood for any stupid jokes today.
„Hyung! Hi!” Taehyung tried to shield the llama from Yoongi’s view. Which wasn’t helping much. But hey, what the hell. He’s gonna humour Taehyung and hope his younger roommate got rid of the animal before he woke up the next morning.
„... I’m going to my room. I’m kind of tired.”
„Yeah, yeah, sure. Have a good rest, hyung.” Taehyung threw him a boxy smile and more confidently tried to make the llama not eat one of their cushions. Yoongi graciously ignored it. If he could just ignore the whole world, that would be nice.
„So,” Yoongi continued, searching for something to eat in the fridge, „anything new?”
„Nope.” The llama was standing quietly in the middle of the living room. „Nothing.”
„Okay. Good.” Just before Yoongi disappeared to his room he decided to add one more information. Just to be sure. „You do know that animals are not allowed in this building, right?”
Taehyung looked at him clearly shocked. „Really? That’s so mean. But I mean... it’s good to know if I, you know... wanted to hypothetically get one. In the future.”
„Yeah. That’s why I was saying it. Just to be sure.” Yoongi closed the door to his room.
The next morning the llama was gone. And they both acted as if that never happened. Like it was never there. The only evidence of the incident was the chewed-up cushion, which Taeyhung graciously replaced with a new one. Though Yoongi was sure the old one was hidden somewhere in Taeyhung’s room. As a memory.
---------------------------
Taehyung was creative. Yoongi knew it from the very first week when Taehyung showed him one of his paintings from his Creative course for hopeful artists. It was colourful. Yoongi wasn’t sure how else to describe the... piece.
However, what he always thought was that Taehyung confined his creative tendencies to his voluntary course and that was it. One morning he found out that wasn’t the case.
It was Saturday morning when Yoongi walked into a place he didn’t recognize. He would call it happy hell on Valentine’s day. Horrifying.
„Hyung! You’re up?”
Yoongi threw Taehyung a disgusted look. How can anyone be this happy at eleven in the morning on the weekend?
„Look, hyung. I decorated our living room.”
„I can see that.”
„I painted everything I like there.” Taehyung gestured to the colourful walls. „Right there are all the animals and beside them is my family and friends. And on the left are all the places I like. But like, not all. That would mean I like so little.”
Yoongi was still recovering.
„And on that wall right there,” he pointed towards the colourful blob behind the TV, „is how I feel about you, hyung!”
Yoongi tried to distinguish anything between the red blue purple and yellow lines and tried to give any sense to the green dots lower to the right corner. „That‘s... really cute.“ Good thing the landlord didn’t check the flats.
„Thank you!” Taehyung looked really pleased with his reaction. „We just can’t touch the walls for another twenty-four hours.”
Yoongi slowly retreated back into his room. „No problem.”
-----------------------------
For what it was worth, Yoongi now couldn’t say his life was boring or bad in general. He had his dream job of producing music along with his friend Namjoon and he even had other friends outside his professional life, like Namjoon’s boyfriend Jin and that one kid Jungkook to whom he gave piano classes on Tuesdays (okay, that was it but still better than few years back). And of course, Taehyung. Though he wouldn’t really call him a friend per say.
It was unusually late for the younger to return back to the apartment. For once Yoongi was actually home first. He was strangely nervous about that.
It was almost eleven in the evening when the keys finally rattled in the lock of the door. Yoongi strangely quickly went to check. Of course, it was Taehyung.
„Yoongi-hyung!” Taehyung was smiling brightly, but was hiding something behind his back (the older got a bad feeling about Taehyung trying to hide something). „You’re home early.”
„Yeah, I finished quickly today.” His worried feeling slowly melted into one of suspicion.
„Good! That’s really good.”
When Taehyung still wasn’t moving from the door still obviously hiding something behind his back Yoongi decided to take mercy on him and left for the living room. He’s gonna find out anyway. Taehyung wasn’t really good at keeping secrets.
„So, hyung. Don’t you need to go to the bathroom or something?”
Yoongi send him a disbelieving look. What now? „Um, no? Why do you ask?”
„No reason. Just to make sure you’re okay.” Taehyung kept creeping slowly towards the kitchen with a now clearly visible plastic bag with a big pink letters that read Pastries. Yoongi had no idea, what was the younger planning. He really hoped that there wasn’t some secret big party being planned in his flat.
After a few more minutes of watching a smiling and constantly shifting Taehyung Yoongi rolled his eyes and with an exasperated „I’ll be back in five minutes,” walked into his room. Just to humour Taeyhung.
In those five (admittingly long) minutes Yoongi had enough time to think about all the possibilities of what he could see once he returned.
Well whatever he thought up didn’t match the reality as Taehyung turned off all the lights and just a few candles were illuminating the room. In the middle of the small table was a small cute cake with one lighted candle.
„Happy first anniversary, hyung!”
What? What anniversary? Did Yoongi miss something? It wasn’t even an anniversary of Taehyung’s moving in with him as that was three months ago. What the hell was this about?!
But to make Taehyung happy (Yoongi was noticing a disturbing pattern right here) he acted really surprised (his face didn’t change much, but at least he tried) and pleased.
„Wow, that’s really... thoughtful of you, Taehyung.”
„Right? But hurry, let’s sit and blow the candle. So the vax doesn’t drip on the cake.”
„Right.”
Yoongi sat on the couch next to Taehyung and when the younger held his hand and counted to three they blew out the candle. Taehyung then closed his eyes.
„What are you doing?”
„Wishing for us to be together forever and ever!” Taehyung smiled his boxy smile. He smiled awfully lot today.
„... Right, of course.”
„You know, hyung, I’m so happy you took me on that date to the movies a year ago! I hope you don’t mind that I count our days as a couple from there on.”
Yoongi’s mind froze for a second. A couple? He’s dating Taehyung? Why doesn’t he know that? What the hell? Wouldn’t he notice something like this happening?
Nevertheless, he just shook his head at Taehyungs question and threw him a weak smile.
When then his younger now apparently boyfriend brought them plates from the kitchen Yoongi decided that maybe he didn’t mind that much. It wasn’t the first thought that crossed his mind when it came to the topic of Taehyung, but he had to admit he liked the boy. So why not. And honestly, the fact he completely avoided the awkward ‚before dating‘ phase was quite a relief for him.
„You know, it’s funny. I actually asked Jimin and Hoseok what should I do for the first anniversary, since you know, they are dating for so long, and they were really surprised. Isn’t it funny that even my best friends didn’t know that we were dating?” Taehyung laughed merrily, took another bite of the cake and kissed Yoongi’s cheek.
„Yeah, just horrible.”
------------------------
Outtake 1
„I told you we are dating!” Taehyung walked proudly into the room. „And you didn’t believe me!”
Jimin stared at his best friend since kindergarten in shock. „No way. He knows?”
„What do you mean he knows. Of course he knows! He’s my boyfriend!”
Hoseok snorted. „And when did he find out? Yesterday?”
„No! He knew! He wasn’t shocked in the least when I congratulated us! And he was really happy to eat the cake too.”
„You sure? So, no confused screaming? No awkward conversation about ‚when did this happen‘?”
Taehyung proudly sat down. „No.”
Jimin sounded genuinely surprised. „Like you know. What happened with-”
„You promised we won’t ever talk about that!”
-----------------------
Outtake 2
„You know, hyung,” Jungkook sat down before the piano still in his high school uniform, „you should really find someone. Or you’ll end up alone.”
Yoongi’s eye twitched. „Brat.” He continued to look for the next suitable piece they could play. „And for your information, I already have someone.”
Jungkook’s jaw dropped. „No way. How long?”
„It was a year two days ago.”
„What? A year? Why didn’t you tell me anything?” Jungkook whined.
„That is really easy.”
Jungkook gulped. Will he now hear ‚you’re too young for this‘ or ,why should I tell you‘?
Yoongi threw him an amused smile. „I didn’t know either.”
