The Wen refugees in the Burial Mounds settlement survive, but it was always going to be a struggle.
Wei WuXian lives with the dead as much as he does with the living, but even in the deep shadows, there is the potential for joy.Some things change and others stay the same. The Wen refugees and Wei WuXian survive in the Burial Mounds but Lan WangJi still raises A-Yuan as his son. The courtship of Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi was never going to straight forward.
To lay ghosts to rest, first you must acknowledge their presence. Secrets old and new come to light. Lan QiRen finds more than he expected when he goes to the Burial Mound to perform funeral rites for the Lan dead. He offers more than was expected as well.
The Lightbringing Lord gives The Yiling Patriarch life, love, and hope.

Wei Wuxian always enjoyed picking an aesthetic and really leaning into it. As an adolescent, he was joyous, entitled and high-born; during the war, he was dangerous and threatening. After the war, he was lost. But then he found his new aesthetic: Elder of the Jiang Sect.

Summary
Wei Wuxian fell... and landed on a sidewalk 600 years in the future. Right in front of Lan Zhan and Lan Xichen, modern cultivators on their way home from a cultivation conference.
A surprising amount of historical information has been lost to time - some due to natural destruction, some due to rampant revisionism. In particular, the true identity of the Yiling Laozu has been erased from history, with no sect willing to claim him and everyone eager to hide any ties they once had to him.
As Wei Ying helps the Lans fill in the missing pieces of history, Lan Zhan knows there are things he’s not telling them. He also knows that it doesn’t matter what those secrets are; nothing will keep him from standing at Wei Ying’s side.
Eventually, Wei Wuxian has to face the fact that he can’t correct some of history’s most important oversights without coming clean about his identity. Proving to the world that he is who he says he is takes them to Lanling, where they unearth history even he didn’t know about.

Exhausted from a busy cultivation conference, the last thing Lan Zhan needs is a man appearing out of thin air as he and his brother walk back to their hotel.
Wei Wuxian isn't the first time traveler to appear in modern cultivation history, but that doesn't mean anyone knows how to send him back. As he helps them fill in gaps in the historical record - whether left by destruction or revisionism - Lan Zhan finds himself hoping that he'll stay. Even if there are things Wei Wuxian isn't telling him.
