"Can I be honest?"
"We're lying to my parents about us being boyfriends, but sure, choose now to be honest."
Eijirou laughs, playfully pushing Katsuki away. "I've only kissed one other person before."
Katsuki merely raises an eyebrow questioningly.
"It was Mina at a party in high school. She was dared to and it was just a peck, but it was so weird because Mina is like a sister to me and even then, I was, like, so gay despite not really knowing it at the time. But yeah, that was technically my first kiss. Who was yours?"
Katsuki flushes a pretty pink before crossing his arms with a grunt. Huh. "You haven't had your first kiss."
"What the fuck, of course I have! You know how many people confessed to me in high school! I could've kissed anyone I wanted!"
"But you didn't want to."
"...No."
"Me neither. Sure, I had crushes occasionally but I never wanted to kiss them really. You're the only person I've ever wanted to kiss."
Oh fuck, he should not have admitted that.
"What?"
Eijirou sighs, deciding to tell a half-truth, "When we were kids. I thought you were so damn cool and I thought me wanting to hang out with you all the time was just a normal best friend thing. But then sometimes I'd think about you being my first kiss and kinda liked the idea." He chuckles halfheartedly, "It was stupid. Sorry if that's weird."
"Do you still want to?"
"What?"
"Kiss me. Do you still want to?"
"I'm not interested in getting kissed out of pity for something that happened 10 years ago."
"You know how I feel about fucking pity, Eijirou."
Eijirou pauses, blinking a few times. "You want to?"
"If anyone is gonna be my first kiss, it should be you. You're my best friend and my partner, for fuck's sake. Plus we need this to look real so we might as well practice or some shit."
"Practice," Eijirou enunciates slowly, "Right, yeah."
Eijirou's heart is hammering, blood rushing in his ears. Katsuki wants to kiss him. This isn't exactly the circumstance in which he had dreamed that this would happen, but it's happening.
Holy shit, it's happening.
"I, uh, I don't know how to."
"What's there to know?"
"I don't know. I'm freaking out a little bit, to be honest."
"Relax, Shitty Hair."
Eijirou pauses for a moment, biting his lip, "Are you sure about this?"
"Are you sure about this? If the hag only believes that we're dating if she sees me stick my tongue down your throat, then she can fuck off. We don't have to do this."
"I'm a pro hero, I shouldn't be scared of a kiss."
Katsuki's face takes on a fierce, determined look as he reaches up to cradle Eijirou's soft cheeks, "Eijirou, look at me."
He starts slowly stroking along the freckles on Eijirou's cheekbones, causing the redhead to meet his eyes and sigh shakily, "I don't want to mess this up. I don't want you to get married. What happens to us then?"
Katsuki leans forward to rest his forehead against Eijirou's, still maintaining eye contact, "Don't fucking worry about them. It's just you and me. Even if they don't believe us and I'm forced into some shitty marriage, it's still just gonna be you and me. Nothing is going to change that. So just fucking breathe and try to relax."
Closing his eyes, Eijirou takes a shuttering breath in and releases it forcefully, "Okay."
"I trust you with my life in and out of the field, Eijirou. We're partners. No matter what happens today, that doesn't change. So tell me what you want to do and that's what we'll do."
"Kiss me." The command comes out breathy and shaky and Eijirou still feels the lingering panic in his chest, but he says it, slowing opening his eyes to see Katsuki's reaction.
Katsuki gives him one more searching look before he subtly nods and closes the distance to seal their lips together.
The kiss is hesitant, as expected of a first kiss and of a concerned best friend. It makes Eijirou's stomach fill with butterflies and his heart pound so loudly in his chest that he's worried Katsuki will hear it. He feels the worry and fear melt away, leaving him feeling light.
Katsuki is still holding him like he's something fragile, one misstep from shattering, so he reaches up and wraps his fingers around Katsuki's wrists and squeezes, urging him on. Katsuki lets a breath out of his nose then starts to tentatively move his lips and wow, this is better than Eijirou ever could have imagined.
He's lost in the sensation for a moment before Katsuki is pulling away, panting slightly, "Was that okay?" Katsuki sounds unsure, a tone so foreign in that gravelly voice that it stuns Eijirou for a second.
"Uh, you're a much better kisser than Mina."
Katsuki growls lowly, "Oh, so now you got jokes?"
Eijirou laughs, the noise coming out strained and giddy, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Bad timing." He squeezes Katsuki's wrists again before using his thumbs to draw light circles on the warm skin, "You know I use humor to cover up how I'm really feeling. It's a reflex!"
"Then how are you really feeling?"
"Like I want to kiss you again."
"Then why don't you?"
Slowly, Eijirou pulls Katsuki's hands away from his face and guides Katsuki backwards so that they're laying down. Katsuki's eyes never leave his except to flick down to his lips and the simple gesture makes Eijirou's heart beat impossibly faster. Before he can get too into his head about it, Eijirou places his hand on the side of Katsuki's neck and leans forward to brush their lips together. He pulls back once last time to verify that Katsuki still wants this and when he's met with open, honest ruby eyes, he surges forward and connects their lips once more.
For someone who's never been kissed, Katsuki is a fast learner. Every moment that those soft lips are pressed to Eijirou's own feels mind-numbing and overwhelming.
After so much time, he's finally being allowed the one thing he's wanted most.
He feels tears of happiness start to prick his eyes, so he pulls back a centimeter, resisting the urge to meet the lips that chase his, to press kisses down Katsuki's jaw then down his neck. With a sigh, he nuzzles into Katsuki's shoulder and murmurs against the warm skin there, "Can I be honest?"
Letting out a huff of a laugh, Katsuki cards his fingers through Eijirou's soft hair, "Yes, Shitty Hair, be honest."
"I'm in love with you."
"Can I be honest?"
The parroted phrase gives Eijirou a pang in his chest and he falls into a whisper, "Yeah."
"I've been in love with you for as long as I can remember."
The words make Eijirou feel like he's been hit with Kaminari's quirk; a jolt runs down his spine and his heart stops for just a moment. His brain plays the simple words over and over on a loop, sending goosebumps cascading over his skin.
Words that took ten years to say.
"We've wasted so much time." Katsuki's voice sounds more like a sigh, barely audible.
"I know."
"I'm done wasting time. Marry me."
Eijirou lets out an, admittedly, embarrassing noise and can feel his cheeks turn an alarming shade of red. Brows furrowed, he presses himself up, hands on Katsuki's chest, until they're eye to eye. "I—Katsuki—"
"Fuck, sorry, Eijirou, I'm—"
"Yes. God, yes."
The grin that overtakes Katsuki's face is one that Eijirou has seen more and more often over the years, but still never fails to take his breath away. It used to be something reserved only for the battlefield, when Katsuki let go and was prepared to destroy anything in his path. Now, it's a different sort of letting go and Eijirou can't help but mirror it, pulling Katsuki's face forward to pepper his face with kisses. Katsuki makes a disgruntled noise, wrinkling his nose, which just makes him look even cuter to Eijirou and spurs on even more kisses.
A realization hits Eijirou mid-kiss, "Wait, what are we going to tell your parents?"
"What the fuck do you mean what are we going to tell them? We tell them their shitty marriage is off and our shitty marriage is on. Simple as that."
"I know your mother, Katsuki, it's not going to be 'simple as that.'"
"Well, it better be simple as that because I'm not letting anyone, including my fucking parents, get in our way."
Katsuki reaches up and lays his hands over Eijirou's that are still resting on his face, slowly intertwining their fingers, "I mean it. She's already fucked up my life enough as it is, I'm not letting her ruin this too."
All Eijirou can do is sigh and press a swift kiss to Katsuki's lips, "Then let's go break the news."
Hand in hand, the couple go downstairs to face Mitsuki and Masaru. Eijirou's entire body feels tense, shoulders nearly up to his ears. Katsuki's hands are shaking slightly, so he must be nervous too, despite his previous confidence.
With a hesitant but reassuring smile, Eijirou squeezes Katsuki's hand and receives one in return as they enter the living room.
"Ready to tell us the truth, brat?" Mitsuki voice calls out once they're in view and Katsuki tenses beside him, "That you two aren't actually together because you're fucking weak and can't admit your feelings for him?"
"Mitsuki, dear," Masaru lays a hand on her arm, trying to ease the tension building in the room. It is shaken off a moment later as her eyes fall on the pair's laced hands.
"You two can cut the act. You're not fooling anyone and it's not changing anything. You're still getting married, Katsuki."
"Fuck yeah, I am. But it's not gonna be some goddamn business deal."
"What the fuck are you—" Mitsuki's cut off by Katsuki yanking Eijirou down by the hand and crashing their lips together. Eijirou freezes in place, eyes still open in shock, until Katsuki pulls away a moment later with a victorious grin.
"I'm marrying Eijirou and you're currently invited, but if you say even one fucking word against it, you won't be there. That's a goddamn promise."
In response, Mitsuki cackles, "I always knew you were a dramatic little shit, Katsuki, but really? Forcing your best friend to marry you out of spite? That's fucking low, even for you."
Hearing those words, Eijirou feels an eerie calm fall over him, previous nerves all but nonexistent as he meets her fiery eyes, "With all due respect, ma'am, I love your son more than anything and I'm marrying him whether you like it or not."
Feeling Katsuki's eyes boring into him but never letting his own leave Mitsuki's face, Eijirou presses on, "It is not your place to tell him what he can and cannot do and it is certainly not your place to tell me what I can and cannot do. I'm done standing idly by and watching you destroy him and frankly, I'm glad you said something because I don't want you anywhere near our wedding. You don't deserve to be there for the happiest day of his life. So, thank you, Mitsuki, for ruining your chance at that. Every time I've been invited into your home, I have been nothing but considerate and I've held my tongue because Katsuki allowed you to be in his life despite everything you've done. But I'm done being nice. We're leaving and you can, respectfully, go fuck yourself."
With a tug of his hand to bring Katsuki out of his shocked daze, Eijirou whispers, "Come on, Katsuki. Let's go home."
Without another word from Mitsuki or Masaru, the two went back upstairs to pack their things and left without saying goodbye; the slam of the door oppressing in its finality.
Katsuki's breath hitches, tears starting to well in his eyes as they walk away from his childhood home. Eijirou loops an arm around his shoulders and brings him close, pressing a kiss to his temple, "I'm sorry."
"I love you, Eijirou. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you." Katsuki's voice comes out small and Eijirou feels his heart shatter into a million pieces.
Squeezing him tighter, Eijirou buries his face in Katsuki's soft hair and tries to lighten the tense atmosphere, "Bold of you to assume you weren't already stuck with my dumb ass anyway."
Katsuki lets out a wet chuckle and shoves Eijirou away, rolling his eyes, "Shut the fuck up, asshole."
Laughing lightly, Eijirou stops them and pulls Katsuki in for a chaste kiss and murmuring against his soft lips, "I love you, Katsuki."
