Taehyung was excited about going to Hawaii. He’d never been to Hawaii before but he’d heard so much about it from his friends; he was looking forward to the beaches, swimming, playing volleyball, canoeing, and all the other fun things there would be to do. What made this trip even better was that he’d be there with the rest of his group. Some of the days would be spent working as this was technically, in the end, a ‘business’ trip for BTS; but their manager had promised they’d have plenty of time to themselves.
Throughout the plane ride, Taehyung spent his time looking at a documentary he found on Hawaii which was made a couple of years ago but gave him great information on things he could probably do in his free time. Watching the video he decided on three things: 1. He was going to go scuba diving (maybe he’d ask Jungkook to tag along for that); 2. He was going to build the biggest sandcastle the world had ever seen (ok maybe not that big but enough for the crabs to make a home in); and 3. Spend some time with Yoongi hyung, maybe go on a hot air balloon ride… ok, maybe not the last one. Taehyung wasn’t brave enough for that. If he was anywhere near Yoongi alone these days he ended up getting flustered and nervous; thanks to a certain idiot who had made Taehyung realize he had a crush on Yoongi.
“Hyung, you like Yoongi hyung don’t you?” Jungkook asked Taehyung during one of their late-night gaming sessions.
“Yea, he’s a great friend,” Taehyung answered without a second thought.
“No, I meant like… ah nevermind,” Jungkook said but then after a minute spoke up again. “What if I said I wanted to date Yoongi hyung?” Jungkook asked.
“You wouldn’t dare cheat on Jiminie,” Taehyung answered back easily, wondering how that question had even come up.
“For the last time, Jimin and I aren’t d-dating! I don’t even l-like him that way!” Jungkook denied while sending a death glare over at Taehyung who just laughed and took the opportunity to KO Jungkook’s character in Mortal Kombat .
“Suuurrreee you don’t,” Taehyung teased as he put down his controller to grab another piece of chocolate from the snack basket they had in front of them which was filled with all sorts of junk food.
“I don’t!” Jungkook huffed as he too grabbed something out of the basket and popped it into his mouth. “Besides I just said I want to date Yoongi hyung, so what do you think? How should I ask him?” Jungkook continued.
“Be serious Jungkook, you know you don’t like Yoongi hyung in that way,” Taehyung replied giving Jungkook a serious look.
Jungkook frowned, “And why do you say that? Is there something wrong with me at least trying to date hyung? I mean it’s not like I don’t like him. Maybe I don’t love him like that yet but maybe I could if we started dating.”
“It’s not nice to play with someone’s feelings Jungkookie.”
“I wouldn’t be playing. I would never do that to anyone I care about. If I dated anyone, I’d do it seriously.”
Taehyung remained silent after that, he knew that Jungkook meant that at least. But he didn’t understand why the younger was being insistent on dating Yoongi? And why was it bothering him to hear Jungkook ask him for his opinion?
“But why Yoongi hyung?” Taehyung asked.
Jungkook shrugged, “why not? I can rely on him for a lot of things, we both like lamb skewers, we both love to sleep, if I were smaller we’d be the same person.”
Taehyung snorted at that, no… he didn’t quite agree with that statement. Yoongi and Jungkook were worlds apart.
“I don’t think you and Yoongi hyung mesh well in the romantic sense,” Taehyung finally replied.
“Why?” Jungkook persisted.
“You… you guys just don’t.”
“Then what about Hoseok hyung?”
“Why are you asking about him? Did Hobi hyung say he liked Yoongi hyung?” Taehyung asked suspiciously. He could see Hoseok and Yoongi getting together, they were always so sweet to one another and Yoongi always had this gummy smile around Hoseok. And the thought that Hoseok liked Yoongi felt like a stab through his heart for some reason.
Jungkook smiled widely at Taehyung’s reply, “What if he did? What would you do?”
Taehyung remained silent. “Would it bother you if Yoongi and Hobi hyung got together?” Jungkook asked.
“No…” Taehyung responded in a strained voice.
“Be honest with yourself hyung, you know it would,” Jungkook said with a slight chuckle as he turned back to the controller and began a new game.
“You be honest to yourself first Kookie, you know you love Jimine,” Taehyung replied as he too grabbed his controller and they began a new round.
That short yet eye-opening conversation sent Taehyung into a spiral for the next week, where he kept asking himself why the thought of Yoongi dating someone had bothered him. And as he analyzed his thoughts and feelings he realized Jungkook was right, he liked Yoongi. And now ever since that realization, things had become a little weird for Taehyung and Yoongi. While Taehyung wished he could confess and act on his feelings, he was too afraid of rejection. He knew exactly how Yoongi would reject him too; Yoongi would do it gently making sure that Taehyung was fine afterward through others, which would make it worse for Taehyung because he wouldn’t even be able to hate Yoongi for rejecting him.
With a sigh, Taehyung struck the third item off the list he’d made in his head… maybe another time. For now, he’d just focus on having fun and worry about crushes later, it wasn’t likely he’d be alone with Yoongi anyway.
When their plane finally landed in Hawaii, Taehyung was the first to grab his suitcases and leave the plane, the other members following close behind and telling him to slow down, which he reluctantly did. Their manager led the way to the vans and they all piled in, talking animatedly to one another. Taehyung luckily got a window seat and so he was able to observe his surroundings as the car drove to their hotel.
At the hotel, everyone played rock, paper, scissors to determine their roommate for their stay. Taehyung hadn’t even considered the prospect he’d be rooming with Yoongi until it became his reality. When he realized he got paired with Yoongi, he went into a mini panic. What was he going to do! Being alone with Yoongi made him so nervous, he was going to end up making a bigger fool of himself than usual! He’d probably end up annoying Yoongi the whole trip and then Yoongi would hate him!
“Let’s go,” Yoongi said to Taehyung, forcing Taehyung out of his mini-state of panic. As the younger saw Yoongi walking towards where their rooms were supposed to be he followed along like a lost puppy.
The two settled down in their room and as they did Taehyung realized how close the beach was to their hotel. He could see it through their window and that regaled the excitement in him about being in Hawaii. Taehyung glanced over at Yoongi who was now lying in bed with his eyes closed. Taking a deep breath, he steeled his nerves. Come on you can do this, he thought to himself.
“Hyung! Let’s go to the beach!” Taehyung exclaimed as he bounded over to Yoongi and shook him lightly.
“Nah, I’d rather sleep,” Yoongi replied turning away from Taehyung.
“Awww come on hyung, we’re in Hawaii! We should go explore it a little!” Taehyung protested shaking Yoongi more insistently.
“Give me one good reason why I should?” Yoongi grumbled.
“Because you love me and want to make me happy?” Taehyung said cheekily albeit a little nervously since he wished that the love the elder had for him was more than brotherly.
“Hmm… nope, try again,” Yoongi mumbled.
“Um… because I’ll agree to any request you give me if you do?” Taehyung tried pouting some more.
“Anything?” Yoongi questioned turning to Taehyung with a mischievous grin.
“Anything.” Taehyung confirmed gulping, wondering what his hyung had planned and then adding, “But only one request, so use it wisely!”
“Ok, let’s go,” Yoongi said getting up right away.
“...what do you want me to do?” Taehyung asked as he followed the elder. The elder simply smiled and shook his head. “Later. Let’s just do what you want right now.”
Taehyung nodded even though he was confused and then two left their room heading out of the hotel and towards the beach. Once on the beach, Taehyung raced towards the ocean, eyes alight with excitement.
“It’s so blue!” He yelled as he ran into the water and screamed in delight as the water was cool against his heated skin. Taehyung completely submerged himself into the water before coming back up and shaking the water out of his hair and pushing it out of his eyes. He turned back to see Yoongi on the shore just watching him quietly while sitting in one of the lounge chairs which he’d pulled closer to the water but still about a foot away.
“Come in the water hyung!” Taehyung called out laughing happily. Yoongi shook his head while smiling back.
“Nah, I’ll stay here, the water is too cold,” Yoongi called back. Taehyung wasn’t going to accept no for an answer so he went back to the shore when he saw Yoongi close his eyes. He quietly snuck up on the elder intent to drag him into the water but as soon as he was about to touch him Yoongi snapped at him.
“Don’t you dare Kim Taehyung,” Yoongi said in a warning as he opened one eye, causing Taehyung to startle and trip over the uneven ground and fall forward straight onto his hyung. The two males groaned at the impact, and after a moment, Taehyung lifted his head from Yoongi’s chest to say sorry only to find himself staring at the elder’s lips. They look so soft… I wonder how they’d taste, Taehyung thought to himself as he continued to stare in somewhat of a daze until Yoongi cleared his throat, causing Taehyung to look up at the elder’s face.
An immediate flush took over Taehyung’s face as he pushed himself off his hyung and mumbled his apologies. “I’m so so sorry hyung, you just startled me and the ground was uneven and I tripped! And I’m really sorry! Are you ok?” Taehyung rambled as he began to realize there was a slight ache in his jaw meaning he must have hurt Yoongi as well.
“I’m fine Tae,” Yoongi replied as he rubbed his upper right chest and looked at Taehyung. “You ok? Your face is all red,” Yoongi continued.
Hearing Yoongi point it out only made Taehyung turn even redder as he mumbled something about the sun beating down on him and rushed back towards the water since he needed to cool off. As he ran away he could hear Yoongi chuckle from behind him.
“Agh, why do I always make a fool of myself?” Taehyung grumbled to himself as he submerged himself in the water to cool off his flushed cheeks. When he surfaced again, he was surprised to see Yoong coming into the water towards him.
“Hyung? You decided to join me after all?” Taehyung asked with a happy smile not noticing the frown on Yoongi’s face.
Yoongi stopped when he was in front of Taehyung and lightly slapped the younger’s arm before saying, “I thought you were drowning! You’ve been submerged for a whole minute!”
Taehyung ran his hand along his arm over the spot Yoongi had hit with a slight pout. “Sorry hyung,” Taehyung said, the younger hadn’t realized he’d been underwater for so long. “But you don’t need to worry, I can stay underwater and hold my breath for a whole two minutes and I’m a great swimmer!” The younger continued to reassure the elder that he was ok.
“Good to know,” Yoongi mumbled before he splashed Taehyung. “Hey!” The younger yelled in protest before splashing the elder back. “You dare splash me?” Yoongi asked before he started bombarding Taehyung with water. Taehyung fought back as he also tried to getaway. The two ended up playing in the water for a while and just spent time enjoying themselves. Taehyung forgot to be nervous and could only feel content as he made his hyung laugh.
After a good thirty minutes, the two called a truce and got out of the water to dry off in the sun. They stayed silent as they just rested but as the silence dragged on Taehyung began to itch for conversation.
“Hyung?” Taehyung hesitantly called out.
“Hmm?” Yoongi hummed in response.
“Do you want to go on a hot air balloon ride with me this evening?” Taehyung asked.
“Sure,” Yoongi replied. Taehyung silently cheered to himself, he’d managed to do it! He’d asked his hyung on a date! Well… Yoongi didn’t know it was a date but that was beside the point. Maybe Taehyung could finally work up the courage to ask Yoongi to be his boyfriend that evening on their date.

Yoongi looked through the outfits he’d brought with him for this trip. He scanned through all the items trying to gauge which one would look best on him. He wanted to look good for his date with Taehyung. While the younger had never specified it was a date, Yoongi could tell that’s what this was meant to be. Taehyung hadn’t been very subtle about his crush on him over the past month. There had been many times Yoongi had wondered if the moment had finally come where Teahyung would confess, but it seemed the younger had backed down every time. But maybe this time would be different? Scratch that, this time would be different. If Taehyung still didn’t manage to work up the courage to confess during their date, Yoongi would take the lead and finally ask the younger out. The only reason he hadn’t asked so far was because he didn’t want to steal the younger’s moment.
Looking over his options one last time, Yoongi finally settled for something casual yet sexy. He knew how much Taehyung loved seeing him in skin tight clothes and so he decided to wear the skinniest pair of skinny jeans he owned and would pair it with an oversized white T-shirt with some English words printed on it which he tucked into his jeans. He styled his hair though he suspected it would get ruined if there was any breeze outside. He finished his look by applying a light layer of makeup and some beaded bracelets. Satisfied with the way he looked, he grabbed his phone and made his way down to the docks where the hot air balloons were supposed to be.
He arrived to see there was already a group of people gathered around, most of them looked like couples. Yoongi looked around for Taehyung but couldn’t see him anywhere. “Where could he be? He didn’t forget, did he?” Yoongi mused to himself.
“Hyung!” A voice called for him from behind, he turned around to see Taehyung running towards him with a pair of tickets in his hand which he held up triumphantly to Yoongi.
“I reserved us the hot air balloon ride with the most views!” Taehyung said happily as he came to a stop in front of Yoongi.
“That’s nice, when are we going up?” Yoongi asked as he did a once-over of Taehyung who, in his opinion, looked absolutely adorable. The younger was wearing khaki shorts with a large white tank top which he’d paired with a white long-sleeved button-up which was unbuttoned.
“In ten minutes!” Taehyung said looking excited which made Yoongi smile.
They waited until their ticket number was called and then headed towards the guide who’d be with them on the hot air balloon ride controlling all the mechanisms to make sure they were safe while up in the air. It took about 5 minutes for the guide to go over safety procedures since Yoongi and Taehyung only understood a limited amount of English. But they managed to get the gist of it, and so pretty soon they were taking off into the sky.
As they went higher and higher, Yoongi couldn’t help but be astounded by the view. It was like being at the top of a huge Ferris wheel but 10x better. He glanced over towards Taehyung who was standing right beside him and saw the look of pure glee on Taehyung’s face which made him chuckle and drew the younger’s attention towards him.
“What is it hyung?” Taehyung asked.
“Nothing… you enjoying yourself?” Yoongi asked.
“Yea… you’re really pretty… I mean the views really pretty!” Taehyung amended in the end as another flush took over his face. Yoongi shook his head while chuckling again.
“Indeed both the view and I’m pretty,” Yoongi responded, enjoying how Taehyung turned even redder.
“Y-yea… so how are you liking the trip hyung?”
“It’s only been a day, can’t say how I’ll feel by the end of it but today’s been good. Except for this one dongsaeng I have, he’s been dragging me around pretty much all day. I only managed to get one hour of rest before coming down here.”
“Oh… I’m sorry hyung,” Taehyung said looking downcast.
“Why are you sorry? I never said it was a bad thing. I should probably add that if it weren’t for my dongsaeng I’d have slept all day and missed out on a lot of fun. So if anything he’s made the start of this trip great,” Yoongi went on with a small smile.
“Oh…” Taehyung began smiling again. “Then I’m glad you enjoyed today!”
Yoongi hummed in acknowledgment of what Taehyung had said. A moment of silence passed before Taehyung spoke up again, “so… have you had dinner yet?”
“Nope, was planning to after this.”
“Then we could go together. I saw this place on the way here that had all sorts of dishes that looked good.”
“Sure. Sounds like a good way to finish this date,” Yoongi said with a shrug.
“D-date?!” Taehyung gasped in surprise not realizing that Yoongi had thought it was a date.
“Yes, date? Or was this supposed to be just two friends hanging out? Cause if I’m being honest this setting is a bit too romantic for that, I mean just look at this hot air balloon’s decor,” Yoongi said pointing to the pink and red steamers with hearts on them along with flowers on all the strings and the fact there were hearts all over the side of the balloon.
“I-I mean if you want it to be a d-date it can be!” Taehyung said, clearly flustered and having another mini panic attack.
“Kim Taehyung, if this isn’t a date, you’re making me look very stupid since I got all dolled up for it and even brought a gift for you. So, be honest, was this supposed to be a date?”
“Yes, yes it’s supposed to be a date!” Taehyung quickly admitted before quietly asking, “you got me a gift?”
Yoongi nodded, “but I don’t have it with me right now, it’s back in our room. I was going to give it to you when we went back there to have sex.”
“H-have s-sex?!” Taehyung exclaimed looking as if he was about to have a heart attack.
Yoongi laughed at that before shaking his head and patting Taehyung’s shoulder, “Chill, I was just joking!”
At that response, Taehyung seemed to calm down a little, at least until he heard what Yoongi had to say next. “I’m not easy, we gotta at least make out a couple of times before we get to the sex.”
Taehyung’s face turned cherry tomato red and he covered his flushed cheeks with his hands. He could no longer take his hyung seriously, it wasn’t good for his heart. Taehyung was only thankful that the guide couldn't understand what his hyung was saying or he’d be downright mortified.
“Actually before any making out can happen, you should probably properly ask me out you know? Make this official?” Yoongi piped up while smirking at how red he’d made Taehyung get.
Taehyung removed his hands from his face and looked at Yoongi wide-eyed before nodding and getting down on one knee. Yoongi immediately shook his head and pulled Taehyung back up before the guide could see what was happening. “You’re not proposing, at least not yet, so no need for that. Just ask normally silly,” Yoongi berated.
“Oh… um, let’s date?” Taehyung asked unsure of himself.
Yoongi laughed and said, “That’ll do. Ok, let’s date.”
“So…. you’re officially my boyfriend?”
“Yes, that’s what dating means Tae,” Yoongi confirmed smiling at the younger. Taehyung broke out into a huge grin and leaped forward to hug Yoongi who easily accommodated to the younger and let himself be hugged.
“Hmm… you know, you still owe me a request,” Yoongi said once Taehyung had let go of him.
“.... what’s the request?” Taehyung asked skeptically.
“Close your eyes,” Yoongi instructed. Taehyung did as told and waited patiently to be told what to do next. It was eerily silent for a bit and Taehyung was about to ask if he could open his eyes yet when he felt something soft on his lips. It took him a second to realize Yoongi was kissing him.
Taehyung immediately melted into the kiss and kissed the elder back. When they finally pulled away from one another and Teahyung opened his eyes, he couldn’t stop the ear-splitting grin he had on his face. He hugged the elder again and dived in for another kiss which Yoongi was all too happy to give.
“I like you a lot hyung!” Taehyung exclaimed when they broke apart for air.
“Don’t you mean love?” Yoongi asked, raising an eyebrow and making Taehyung blush again.
“It’s not too early for that?” Taehyung asked and Yoongi shook his head.
“Then yea, I love you Yoongi.”
“I love you too Taehyung,” Yoongi responded before adding on, “and I’m glad you finally decided to ask me out. My gosh, watching you fail so many times this month has been painful.”
“Wait… you knew about all those failed attempts?!”
“Of course! You’re not subtle at all.”
