Work Text:
Jimin sighed as he looked at the painting before him. To him, the painting looked like a child's work; as if a child had fingerpainted across a large canvas in shades of blue, red, and black. Honestly, he could see no form or reason for the painting. Even he could draw better then that and all he could really draw was stick figures. And he knew for sure Taehyung could do way better than this as his best friend was a genius of an artist. Taehyung could draw just about anything, he drew scenery, still life, and portraits; would use all forms of mediums from pencils and paints to digital platforms and he even sculpted. There was literally not a thing Taehyung couldn't do when it came to art. Taehyung had even painted the Mona Lisa and in Jimin's humble opinion it was way better than the original. With crazy talent like that, Jimin always wondered why no one was featuring Taehyung's work yet. Why didn't his best friend have a whole gallery to himself yet? Instead, his best friend was still working his way through college art classes to get accreditations so that someday he would be featured in galleries. Meanwhile, a child's painting was being revered by all the known land? How was it that someone could just scribble on a canvas and it was somehow deemed 'art'? Jimin just couldn't understand it at all.
"Hey Tae, how long are you going to continue looking at this one?" Jimin asked as he nudged his best friend who was analyzing the art piece with a critical eye and jotting down notes in his notebook along with quick sketches.
"Hmm, just need to analyze it a bit more before moving on the next exhibit...but you can move ahead to look at something else Minnie. You don't have to follow me around, I'm thankful enough you came with me at all," Taehyung replied while flashing a quick, charming, boxy smile at Jimin before returning his attention the childish drawing.
Jimin pouted for a moment as he didn't really want to look at all the other exhibits by himself, but then again he was really tired of the exhibit they were currently in. None of the paintings here looked like real art in Jimin's opinion and so with a reluctant sigh, he patted Taehyung's shoulder as silent encouragement and then walked off to explore the rest of the exhibits.
As he wandered around from exhibit to exhibit, taking his time, he grew more and more dissatisfied with the works displayed. Nothing there was really eye-catching and more then that, nothing compared to his best friend's work. Maybe he was being biased in thinking that way as there were quite a few pieces even he deemed 'nice', but really Jimin would have much rather rummaged through Taehyung's works then be here.
"Taehyung seriously needs to get featured. None of these are worthy of their spot... I wonder who designed this gallery? Do they know anything about true art?" Jimin whispered to himself as he started walking towards the back where the last exhibit featuring sculptures were. He walked around disinterestedly and merely glanced at everything before sitting down on one of the many backless benches they had around the gallery. He decided to sit in the bench in front of the last statue which was really just a block of marble with the vague shape of a head atop of it. Now that he was done looking around he wasn't sure what to do and he was growing bored of just sitting there.
With yet another sigh, Jimin pulled out his phone and began going through Instagram. Now, this is art, Jimin thought to himself as he liked some photos by an artist Taehyung had introduced him to. Sadly though there wasn't a lot of new things on Instagram for him to see, so after a few minutes he was bored again. He exited the app and was about to click on twitter when he got a notification on Snapchat. He opened the notification and giggled quietly to himself as he watched the short montage of photos his brother had sent him of their dog and her newborn puppies. Jimin wished he could be there to play with the puppies but he wouldn't be able to head home until this weekend which was still three days away. After replaying and saving the snaps, Jimin decided to send a selfie of his own to his brother and so he opened his camera app and began to make funny faces while taking selfies. As he was doing so, he heard someone clear their throat from beside him.
Startled, Jimin lowered his phone and looked up and towards his left to see a tall man with dark red hair and beautiful brown eyes looking at him. The man had a sculpted face with a sharp jawline and he was very muscular. One word ran through Jimin's mind as he stared at the man: HOT. Jimin was swooning just from looking, he was so dazed he didn't even realize the man was wearing a security guard uniform or that he was speaking to him again. It was only when Jimin's eyes rested on the man's gorgeous lips that he recognized the other was actually talking.
"Huh?" He said dumbly not having heard a word. The security guard raised an eyebrow at Jimin, a small smile gracing his lips as he repeated himself.
"I said, please do not take pictures of the artwork," The man said.
Jimin felt his face heat up at that as he quickly apologized and explained himself. "Sorry! I promise I wasn't taking pictures of the artwork. I was just taking a selfie to send to my brother!" Jimin hurried to explain as he didn't want to get in trouble or have the man before him, think badly of him.
The guard's smile widened as he said, "I know," and winked at Jimin. Jimin sat there dumbfounded. Did... did that hot man just flirt with him?! Jimin was having a hard time believing what had just happened and the flush on his cheeks just wouldn't die down as he kept replaying the other's words again and again. The guard continued to stare at him slowly looking a little concerned.
"Uh... was that too much?" The guard asked as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable."
Hearing that brought Jimin to his senses. "No! I'm not uncomfortable!" Jimin practically yelled and then grew more embarrassed by how loud he'd just been.
The other looked startled but then soon began laughing as he smiled down at Jimin. "Good to know."
"Yea..." Jimin trailed off while covering his mouth as if to prevent himself from yelling again.
The guard continued to smile at him, his eyes twinkling. "So... what's your name beautiful?"
"Jimin... and you are?"
"Jungkook. It's nice to meet you Jimin."
"Same to you," Jimin responded while holding his hand out for a handshake. Jungkook looked at Jimin's hand for a moment before shaking his head.
"I can't shake your hand," Jungkook said which confused Jimin.
Feeling dejected Jimin retracted his hand while saying, "Oh..."
"Don't you know it's against the rules to touch such precious artwork? My, you sure are breaking a lot of rules in our gallery today," Jungkook teased. Jimin looked up at the other bewildered before he broke down laughing. This guy was funny for sure and quite sweet.
"You know I'm not artwork so your galleries rules don't apply to me," Jimin protested while smiling widely at the other.
"What are you talking about? You're the only artwork here that's worth looking at!" the other declared.
"Seriously?" Jimin asked while laughing hard once again.
"I'm dead serious," Jungkook said with a smile. "I mean just look at those pretty crescent eyes! You far outshine everything here."
Jimin beamed at the compliments, it was rare that he got hit on unless he was at a bar. He didn't know why, but whenever going about his daily life no one ever hit on him, though a few did seem flustered to be around him.
"You're really sweet, is this how you act with all the visitors?" Jimin asked raising an eyebrow at the red-haired man.
"Nope, you're the first."
"Oh, so I'm special?"
"Definitely," Jungkook replied without hesitation as the sweet smile continued to grace his face.
Jimin blushed again, his giddiness over the situation rising. "Well I definitely feel special now," Jimin said.
"Just now? Shouldn't someone as ethereal as you always feel special?" Jungkook inquired.
"Ah, so I'm a someone now? Doesn't that make me a person?" Jimin paused for a second before continuing, "So I'm no longer artwork, right? Does that mean we can shake hands now?" Jimin countered, a triumphant smile on his face. Jungkook laughed as he shook his head.
"Nope, you're still artwork. The most spectacular art piece around to be exact, and part of what makes you spectacular is that you're a living, breathing work of art! Or maybe I'm wrong and you're a robot? Like in those K-dramas?"
"A robot?! Of course not! Robots are cool and super strong and smart, both things I'm not," Jimin answered laughing wholeheartedly, his whole body shaking from laughter. Jimin ended up leaning so far back as he laughed that he almost fell off the backless bench, but thankfully before he could fall and hit his head, Jungkook caught a hold of his arm to steady him.
"Thanks but I thought you said you weren't allowed to touch the artwork," Jimin said while beaming up at the red-haired male who blushed a bit before chuckling.
"Well, I guess since I've already broken the rules I might as well ask... since my shift just ended would you mind if I took you out, maybe for an early dinner?" Jungkook asked shyly as he pulled his hand back and awaited Jimin's response.
"Oh..." Jimin hadn't expected the security guard to suddenly ask him on a date. He'd thought the other was just engaging in some harmless flirting with him, but his heart started beating faster when he realized the other might really want to try and have a relationship with him. But he couldn't just accept, he'd come here with Taehyung so he shouldn't just leave his best friend behind just to go on a date.
Jimin frowned slightly as he answered the other, "um I'd love to but you see... I came here with my friend and so I can't just le-"
"He means yes!" Taehyung suddenly said as he appeared behind Jimin seemingly out of thin air. Taehyung grabbed a hold of Jimin's shoulders and then leaned forward slightly as he said, "ignore his last few words and take my words instead. He'd love to go and have dinner with you!"
"Taehyung? How long have you been here?" Jimin asked his blue-haired friend as Jungkook asked at the same time, "Um who are you?"
"I'm Jimin's best friend who sometimes as to speak for him when he's not thinking clearly or being silly, and I've been here long enough to know you're going to say yes to this lovely young man right?" Taehyung directed the last part at Jimin with a boxy smile. Jimin studied Taehyung for a second before nodding.
"Yea," He answered.
"Uh, are you sure?" Jungkook asked looking very confused.
"He's sure don't worry... But you mister better be sure to take good care of him or else I'll come and bash your pretty face in so much that not even plastic surgery could fix it. Understood? Good. Ok now have a nice date!" Taehyung said pulling Jimin up off the bench and then shoving him towards Jungkook before quickly running away. Jungkook reacted quickly catching Jimin before the shorter could fall and hurt himself.
"Um, you ok?" Jungkook asked and Jimin nodded looking behind him to see that his best friend was nowhere in sight anymore.
"So... you're really ok with me taking you on a date?" Jungkook asked just to be sure Jimin was actually agreeing to it.
Jimin chuckled and nodded his head as he removed himself from Jungkook's grip. "Yea I'm sure. Shall we go now?"
Jungkook's smile instantly lit up his face as he nodded and held out his hand for Jimin to take so he could lead the way.
"So we're touching now?" Jimin asked as he took a hold of the taller's hand.
"Well I'm not worthy of it, but if you'll make an exception for me then yes," Jungkook replied eyes expressing a tremendous amount of joyfulness.
"Hmm... ok, I'll make an exception for you. But only you," Jimin responded smiling brightly as he was lead out of the exhibit and gallery.

A couple of months later Jungkook and Jimin became boyfriends and all his friends had heard about how they'd met and the couple never heard the end of it.
"Oi Jungkook you can't touch this!" Hoseok joked as he pulled Jimin away from Jungkook before the younger could hug him.
"Yea, don't touch!" Taehyung chimed shielding Jimin away from Jungkook and laughing whilst doing so.
"Come on guys... I just want to hug my boyfriend. Can't you stop reminding me of my cringy flirting skills?" Jungkook whined which only made all his hyungs laugh harder.
Jimin giggled before pushing through Hoseok and Taehyung to hug Jungkook. "Hey those cringy flirting skills worked on me, so you should be happy," Jimin stated as he placed a kiss on Jungkook's lips. Jungkook brightened quite a lot after that. He could live with all the teasing in the world if it meant he could keep Jimin by his side.
