Work Text:
These broken souls
walk this land.
These broken dreams
haunt our mind.
The past is dead,
but the memories live
on...
The heart it breaks
and the wounds they mend,
but the scars stay put
'til the bitter end.
Please tell me the world
isn't as black and white as it seems,
tell me you won't let heroics
plague my guilt laden dreams.
Just let me cry,
as I lean against you.
And if my strength fails,
let me borrow from you,
please...
Just wrap your arms
around my sinner's soul,
just take away
those rose tinted glasses
and see me whole.
The pleasure and pain,
victories and losses lying on the ground,
scattered around
between broken bones.
They're left behind,
for a blind eye to see.
The casualties
they line the streets,
the grassy fields,
covered in broken shields.
They're the future dirt,
in the muck they sink,
in the bugs they drown,
out of sight and out of mind.
Please tell me the world
isn't as black and white as it seems.
Tell me you won't let heroics
plague my guilt laden dreams.
Just let me cry,
as I lean against you.
And if my strength fails,
let me borrow from you
please...
Just wrap your arms
around my sinner's soul,
just take away
those rose tinted glasses
and see me whole.
Do you hear the screams,
the shaking hearts,
as we all fall to our knees
our sanity in parts?
Do you see the shame,
or just the colourful badges
and ribbons and titles and swords?
Do you know our names,
and the names of the people we killed?
Do you see only the saved,
did you catch a glimpse of the blood we spilled?
The ones we could have saved,
The ones that haunt our peace
and make us squirm in our sleep.
Will you put your hand
around my neck and squeeze?
Or will you stay by my side,
and tell me a sinner is what you need.
Please tell me the world
isn't as black and white and black as it seems,
tell me you won't let heroics
plague my guilt laden dreams.
Just let me cry,
as I lean against you.
And if my strength fails,
let me borrow from you,
please...
Just wrap your arms,
around my sinners soul.
Just take away
those rose tinted glasses
and see me whole.
Please tell me the world
isn't as black and white and black as it seems,
tell me you won't let heroics
plague my guilt laden dreams.
Just let me cry,
as I lean against you.
And if my strength fails,
let me borrow from you,
please...
Just wrap your arms,
around my sinners soul.
Just take away
those rose tinted glasses
and see me whole.
