Work Text:
Yoongi and Hoseok wave to their surrogate Laura, watching her walk to her car before going to their own hand in hand.
“So, we just wait?” Hoseok asks, swinging their hands a little
“Yes.” Yoongi glances at Hoseok, raising a brow. “Did you think they just pop it in and then instant pregnancy?”
He feels the flat look cast his way and laughs. “No, I don’t know. I’m just… freaking out a little.”
“Please tell me you're not rethinking this.” Yoongi is slightly joking, but stops by their car, looking at Hoseok.
“No, of course not… I’m not freaking out about the baby part, I’m freaking out that it isn’t going to take. I’ve heard of that happening.” Hoseok fiddles with Yoongi’s fingers, seeing the soft expression on Yoongi’s face.
It’s been a year since they got married, had a wonderful honeymoon, spent time being married and raising Yeri when Hoseok had said, out of the blue, they should give Yeri a sibling.
He remembers the look on Yoongi’s face, the dumbfounded shock he so rarely sees. Hoseok feared he’d said the wrong thing, wondering if it’s too soon for that kind of talk. They’ve had conversations about the future, but Hoseok doesn’t know if Yoongi meant five years in the future or the near future…
It took a week before Yoongi came to him with documents on adoption and surrogacy. It was interesting to research for sure.
It was probably the most stressful few months Hoseok has ever had when they were trying to find a surrogate, especially trying to figure out how they were going to have a child that was from both of them when Yoongi didn’t have family and all of Hoseok’s was in South Korea.
Bless his mom, really for emailing the whole family in Korea to find a cousin that Hoseok remembers spending time with when they went to Korea for summer break one year to offer. After that was all figured out, they found the perfect surrogate, Laura, who reached all their requirements.
Now here they were, going home from the doctor’s office and like everything else, had to wait for the results.
Which was probably the most nerve-wracking thing so far.
It was a little after two weeks as Yoongi’s working on one of his novels that he gets a phone call.
Once he hangs up, he closes the laptop, jumping from his chair and almost trips halfway down the stairs. He remembers Hoseok telling him that Yeri and he would be out front planting flowers and bursts out the front door, making them jump.
“Yoon, you ok-”
Not letting him finish, Yoongi plants a kiss right on his mouth. He faintly hears Yeri mutter an ew and laughs as he pulls back a bit.
“Laura just called, it took, she’s pregnant, we’re pregnant. Holy shit I need to sit down.” Yoongi runs a hand through his hair, lowering himself down onto the porch step, kind of surprised by himself since he’s been way more shocked before when this happened.
“What’s going on?” Yeri looks between her father’s, waiting until one of them acknowledge her.
Hoseok laughs, tears in his eyes as he lifts Yeri into his arms, spinning her around. “You’re going to be a big sister!”
Yeri smiles, wiggling down. “Is it going to be a girl?”
“We don’t know yet, Sunshine. How’s Laura doing?” Hoseok sits next to Yoongi, massaging the back of his neck.
“She’s great, happy for us, she asked if we could get lunch this weekend.” Yoongi chuckles, laying his head on Hoseok’s shoulder.
Yeri hums, wedging herself between her appa and dad. “When will you find out if it’s a boy or a girl?”
“Um, it depends, Yeri.” Yoongi answers, tugging on her braid.
“Depends on what?”
Yoongi rolls his eyes, looking up to Hoseok to answer that question.
“Well, we can find out early or when the baby comes into the world.”
“When are we going to find out?”
Yoongi hugs Yeri to him, kissing the top of her head. “We’ll let you know, okay.”
Yeri nods, resigning to the fact that’s all she’s going to get.

There’s screaming and cursing, more cursing then screaming in Hoseok’s opinion as he lets his hand get smashed by Laura who’s got a death grip on his and Yoongi’s.
He’s lost feeling in his hand a long time ago, but it’s worth it, so worth it as it seems like the world pauses for a split second before crying. A shrill cry that turns into sobs as the obstetrician holds the baby announcing to the room its a boy.
He feels Laura’s hand on his weaken before she lets go completely. Once the baby is cleaned up a little, he’s passed to Yoongi like they agreed, who grins down at the little bundle that’s calmed down some. The baby’s eyes are open, looking around the room, unfocused.
“Do you want to see him?” Yoongi asks looking from Hoseok and Laura who both nod.
He gestures for Hoseok to come over, taking Laura’s hand and helping her hold one of the baby’s hands.
“He’s perfect,” Hoseok whispers, running a finger over the little tuft of hair on his head. He laughs wetly, wrapping an arm around Yoongi’s waist, resting his chin on the elder’s shoulder.
“He is, I’m so happy for you two. I’m glad I could give you this.” Laura smiles tiredly, gently swaying the baby’s hand.
“Alright, little one needs his shots and to get cleaned up some more.” A nurse says, leading Yoongi to an area where a window is and laughs as he sees the guys along with a few of Laura’s family standing in the window, along with Yeri who’s clinging onto Jungkook as she watches with wide eyes.
Yoongi takes the baby’s curled up fingers, waving to his family before letting the nurse take him and cleaned him up, giving him shots that he was not happy with, a diaper put on then swaddled right back up as she shows Yoongi how to feed him his formula. Deciding on using formula than breast milk. Kagome didn’t breastfeed and Yeri came out fine, and Laura chose not too as well.
Coming back into the room, Yoongi sees Hoseok watching them closely, his fingers twitching.
“Ready to hold our son?”
Hoseok opens his mouth, then closes it, just nodding his head as he holds out his arms.
“Take off your shirt,” Yoongi says.
Hoseok raises a brow, Laura laughing as she’s already been settled and is now resting.
He does as he’s told, dropping the shirt in the chair then watches as Yoongi unswaddles the baby a little, then hands him to Hoseok.
“Support the head, hold the bottom, now make sure his head is turned so he can breathe and let him lay close to your heart. This skin to skin contact helps with a lot of things. I did this with Yeri when she was born.”
Hoseok nods, cradling the baby close to his chest, looking down in awe.
“Make sure to keep him covered.”
Hoseok nods, letting Yoongi adjust the blanket, but can’t stop looking down at this baby boy that’s theirs, he’s trying to wrap his mind around it as he gently sways while humming softly.
“I’m going to go tell the others,” Yoongi says, leaving the room.
“He’s beautiful,” Laura says.
“He is.”
“Happy?”
Hoseok glances up, grinning with tears in his eyes. “Ecstatic.”

“Soobin, you can’t touch RJ, That’s for Hakkun,” Yeri says, gently taking the white alpaca plush from Soobin’s hands and setting it on the dresser. She laughs as Soobin pouts, looking up at her cousin.
“Here’s Koya.” Yeri hands Hakkun the blue koala with a sleeping peaceful face, smiling when she watches her cousin hug Koya to his chest
“There we go, I have mine here too, Cooky, Tata, Chimmy, Shooky, and Mang.” Yeri points to her stuffed pink bunny with wonky eyebrows, a little plush creature with a blue and yellow body and a big red heart as his head, a yellow puppy with a black ears and his tongue sticking out, a brown round cookie with a huge smile with tiny arms and legs and the last a pony wearing a mask with a heart-shaped nose.
Soobin smiles rubbing Koya’s head.
“Is everything okay in here?” Namjoon asks, coming into the room.
“Yes I was showing Soobin my plushies, when’s appa and dad going to be home with Hakkun?” Yeri grabs Mang, hugging him to her chest.
“I just got off the phone with them, they’ll be here soon. Come on Angel. It’s time to eat.” Namjoon lifts Soobin into his arms, holding out a hand for Yeri. “come on, I’ll make you a sandwich.”
Yeri makes a face. “Uncle Jin said you shouldn’t be in the kitchen.”
Namjoon rolls his eyes. “I’m allowed to make sandwiches, I survived on stuff like this in college. Now, come on miss smartypants, you can pick the sandwich.”
Yeri grins, skipping after her uncle.
It’s in the middle of her sandwich when she hears the front door opening, Holly lifting his head the same time Yeri jumps off her chair to see her appa and dad coming in with her new baby brother.
“We’re home, Namjoon you better have not burned down my kitchen,” Yoongi announces, kissing Yeri on the head when she jumps into his arms.
“That was one time and the kitchen didn’t burn down.” Namjoon comes over, Soobin peeking behind his dad's long legs at the carrier holding baby Hakkun.
“Can I see him?” Yeri asks, poking at the blanket that’s covering Hakkun’s carrier.
“Yes, but you remember what we taught you?” Hoseok says, lifting the blanket.
Yeri nods, coming closer, ignoring her halmeoni and halabeoji coming in.
Hoseok takes the blanket completely off, revealing the sleeping baby.
“He looks just like Hoseok when he was a baby. Gosh, he’s so precious.” Eunji comes over, laying a hand on her son’s shoulder.
Yoongi smiles watching Yeri’s eyes rove over Hakkun, her fingers twitching to touch but holding back.
“When he wakes up to eat, you can hold him, okay?” Yoongi says to Yeri, seeing her nod but not take her eyes off her brother.
Soobin comes over looking curiously at Hakkun. Pointing to the baby, he turns to his dad. “Baby.”
“Yep, that’s your baby cousin. Hakkun.” Namjoon crouches next to his son, holding on to his shoulders as he looks at Hakkun.
“When will he be able to play?” Yeri asks.
Hoseok raises a brow. “Right now he’s very fragile, he can’t talk, walk or do much, that’s why we need to keep a close eye on him.”
Yeri nods, brushing a gentle finger over his arm.
“Appa said he’s going to cry a lot.”
Yoongi nods. “I’m prepared, you cried a lot.”
Hoseok chuckles, watching Hakkun’s face scrunch up, his mouth open wide into a yawn.
“I’m going to go unpack his stuff and make sure the bassinet in our room is ready for him,” Yoongi says, getting up and asking Eunji to help him.
The two head upstairs, Hakkun’s eyes wide open now, looking around at the people watching him before his face scrunches up and he starts crying, his little fists waving with displeasure.
“Stinky,” Soobin says, backing away from Hakkun.
Hoseok’s laughs, unbuckling his son from his carrier and lifting him into his arms, his crying lets up a bit but he still sniffles, waving his little hands in the air.
“Alright bud, let’s get you changed.”
Hakkun drools, seeming to agree.

It’s around six in the morning when Hoseok comes home, whistles tiredly as he parks in the driveway, shutting off his truck. Yawning, he twirls his keys, waving to Kalen who is up jogging.
Unlocking the front door, he shuts it with his body, letting go of is bag and freezes.
He feels something off, can hear little giggles and paws skittering across the floor. He looks up, noticing the fridge door is open shedding light across the kitchen creepily.
Blinking, Hoseok slowly treks to the edge of the island, reaching behind for the taser he keeps in his work belt for safety reasons (he blames Jungkook for bringing that thriller movie last weekend because now he’s paranoid) what he sees though, doesn’t scare him just flat out shocks him.
Little two (and a half) year old Hakkun, in his diaper covered in chocolate syrup, the lettuce for sandwiches is everywhere, he somehow found a way to take the wrapper off of the butter and is now all over the ground and the chocolate milk in the little boxes is spilled across the entire floor.
Hoseok got closer, slipping on the floor a little to see salad dressing, the jam jar Yeri never shut good enough when she made herself a sandwich splattered in Hakkun’s hair, ketchup was all over Hakkun’s legs looking like very bright blood.
It was real stupid for Yoongi and him to think that Hakkun wouldn’t get into trouble like Yeri. Yeri was the queen of making messes when she was little, has grown out of it a bit now, but now she gets into trouble with taking things apart and trying to put them back together or trying to sneak Jimin’s and Jungkook’s girlfriend Jesse’s make-up when she can and put it on either her parents or uncles when their dead asleep.
Yoongi and Hoseok are prepared for her teenage years when she sneaks out, she’s a quiet little thing.
Sighing, Hoseok knocks on the counter keeping in his smile as Hakkun looks up, pausing comically with wide eyes and the empty chocolate syrup bottle in his hand.
“I see you snuck out of your crib, huh bud?”
Hakkun laughs, dropping the bottle and raising his arms to be lifted. Not caring about his uniform, Hoseok leans down, lifting Hakkun into his arms and carefully steps away from the slippery floor.
“Now, how did you get away with that without waking your appa?” Hoseok goes up the stairs gently shushing Hakkun who’s gabbing, he goes silent with a giggle.
Hoseok will admit he’s shocked, usually Yoongi has this sense when one of the kids are awake or in trouble, it’s freaky, he would tell Hoseok stories about when Yeri was a baby, if she made a slight sound in the next room, he was woken and going to see if she was alright.
So the fact Hakkun did all that downstairs without waking Yoongi (he’s not mentioning Yeri since she’s at Kacy’s) is amazing and a little concerning.
Going into their room, he notices the bed is empty, the lamp still on, sighing, Hoseok looks at Hakkun. “I think appa worked all night.”
Hoseok goes to Yoongi’s office, looking in to see his husband fast asleep, head on the laptop, one arm is on the desk the other looks to have slipped off, just hanging.
“Oh, appa, wake up.” Hoseok shakes his shoulder, Yoongi jerking up straight, looking around until his eyes land on Hoseok then messy Hakkun.
“You might want to go downstairs, while I get bud here cleaned up.” Hoseok smirks, turning on his heel and going to the bathroom. He hears Yoongi go downstairs, can hear his yelp of shock then the thudding footsteps back up and to the bathroom.
“Are you impressed?” Hoseok jokes, setting a fussy Hakkun in the bath, getting the spray and gently starting to wash off the condiments on his son.
“How? I put him in his crib, how did he get out of the crib?”
“Are you telling me Yeri never snuck out of her crib?” Hoseok raises an eyebrow, glancing at Yoongi who still seems shellshocked.
“No, she liked her crib, when she turned three I got her a real bed, she threw the biggest tantrum in Yeri history and even then she wouldn’t sleep in her bed for two weeks, she would sneak out and either sleep on the couch or with me until I slept in her room one night to show her the bed wasn’t some monster coming to take her away.”
Hoseok snorts. “Well, I don’t think we’ll have that problem with him. If he’s starting to get out, it might be time to look for a toddler bed, I’m scared he’s going to get hurt.”
“Yeah, I’ll go fetch him some clothes and start cleaning the kitchen.” Yoongi comes over, squinting at the top of Hakkun’s head, reaching down to pick at his dark hair. “Is that… jam?”
“Yep, he got the lid off.” Hoseok says. “please be still, Kun, then it’s sleep time.”
Hakkun cries, Yoongi bending down to gently squish Hakkun’s cheeks, pecking his little nose. “Be good for dad, okay.”
“No.”
Hoseok and Yoongi snort, Hoseok stripping to his underwear and getting in, ready to tackle Hakkun’s jam hair.
*
Hakkun finally falls asleep an hour late in his crib after a crying fit when he didn’t want to be put back in.
Now Yoongi and Hoseok lay in bed, dead tired under the covers, both of them starfished over the other.
“So, tomorrow, bed shopping?” Hoseok mumbles, eyes closed.
Yoongi hums, running his fingers through Hoseok’s hair. “And locks on the fridge, I shouldn’t have sold the ones I had when Yeri was getting into everything, but I honestly never thought I would have another kid.” Yawning, his hand stalls in the dark hair, then gets going again when he gets the signature whine.
Hoseok mumbles something unintelligible, snuggling closer to Yoongi.
“I’m guessing you just want me to shut up so you can go to sleep?”
“No, keep talking, your voice is soothing.”
Yoongi chuckles and starts telling Hoseok his next novel idea until both of them fall asleep.
(only to be woken three hours later by Yeri and Hakkun)
