Summary
So Henry lays on his side in bed, fidgeting with the unused pillow next to his head. No matter how hard he tries to force the thoughts of Alex out of his mind, they’re stuck. He thinks about the way Alex shook his hand upon arrival. Strong and firm with arms that nearly winded him upon sight. His unenthusiastic smile was still so bright and filled Henry’s stomach with butterflies. He was able to cope with that, he thinks. Then came the glasses.
Usually, Henry isn’t this quick to crumble. He’s always good at appearances and keeping everything together. He’s capable of restraining any unwelcome emotions. Or at least he was. Now he’s struggling to not rut against his mattress all over the passing thoughts of Alex.

He spots Henry easily – a tall lighthouse of tousled blond hair – talking to a girl who is clearly into him. His expression looks perfectly polite, but he’s subtly leaning away, and he looks tense.
So, Alex makes an impulsive decision.

Or: Alex is so very definitely straight, so pretending to be Henry’s boyfriend to get him out of an awkward situation should just be a fun little pastime - except that he doesn't really want to stop, and he has no idea why. But maybe it's okay to not think too hard and let himself go with the flow, for once.

The coffee pot almost slips from Henry’s hands; he manages to catch it at the last second, but it’s a small feat compared to the ringing in his ears.
He turns, more confused than he’s ever been in his life, and looks at Alex, properly taking him in for the first time that day. Wild curls, like he didn’t even bother with them when he woke up; knuckles white where he’s gripping his phone, like his hand would shake if he loosened his hold; eyes fierce and red-rimmed, tears clinging to his lashes.
He looks angry. More than that, he looks downright furious.
