Work Text:

Dark whispers snaked through Hawks’ subconscious. It had been decades since Dabi had been cast out, but there wasn’t a moment that the angel couldn’t hear the Devil in his head, tempting him with forbidden desires.

Dabi had always drawn attention. It was what he did, and Hawks, finding the rebel angel’s antics highly inappropriate, had done his best to keep his distance lest he get sucked into Dabi’s dark vortex.

It didn’t help that Dabi had explicitly chosen to target Hawks, relishing the challenge of trying to corrupt a first sphere angel.

What Dabi intended to do once he’d ruined Hawks, the seraph couldn’t begin to imagine. He did, however, know that the rebel angel was nothing but trouble of the highest order.

On the few occasions they’d found themselves alone together, Hawks could feel Dabi’s traitorous claws digging into his soul, gently - and sometimes not so gently - trying to tease his conscious aside, persuading Hawks to indulge in forbidden pastimes and pleasures.

And worse, Dabi went for the jugular, spreading blasphemous doctrine that made more and more sense the longer you listened to it - no doubt due to his devilish charm and wicked charisma.

Head swimming with confusion, Hawks went out of his way to avoid Dabi, but temptation had already taken root in his heart, making it impossible not to long after the rebel angel with fiery blue wings and burning eyes.

The day Dabi was cast out, Hawks could breathe again, feeling the weight of his worries lift, fading into the clouds. His peace was short-lived, though. Dabi, the hellish devil that he was, found ways to plague Hawks despite his banishment.

Years passed like days and decades like months, but temptation continued to coil in Hawks’ belly, crackling and simmering under his skin - all the while continuing to hear Dabi like a snake hissing in his ear.

Hawks didn’t know if the voice was real or merely a trick. All he knew was that each year seemed to pass slower than the last and that - though he’d never confess before the throne - he missed Dabi’s wicked smile and demonic gaze.

There was something innately pleasurable about the way Hawks’ skin prickled when Dabi was near, and he eventually came to accept that holding back from joining the rebel angel on earth - or wherever he was sent - must be a divine test. And if he passed the test, the rewards of holding out would far exceed the fleeting euphoria of basking in Dabi’s hellfire.

Hawks was sure of it - or he tried to be anyway.

Year by year, the seraph’s resolve crumbled further, and on the day he could feel himself giving out, falling apart and succumbing to his desire to leave the throne, the Devil appeared before him.

Hawks stood alone in the throne room when Dabi materialized behind him, and he didn’t need to turn to know who it was, the Devil’s heat licked at his crimson wings with such familiarity that he didn’t dare bother denying that Dabi’s presence was very much real.

“You’ve got a lot of nerve showing up here,” Hawks laughed, masking the trembling in his chest.

“I never left, babe,” Dabi purred, approaching the seraph with mischief flickering in his flaming eyes. “I was always here.” He tapped the center of Hawks’ chest, sending a shiver rippling through the angel’s soul.

“What do you want?” The question was for Hawks’ sanity and pride. He could pretend he didn’t know, but in truth, he ached for Dabi to free him, saying the words that would undo him.

“Don’t be coy,” Dabi murmured, brushing one of Hawks’ six wings aside with a scarred hand. “I’m here to free you. I can feel you shaking in your shackles, but you’re too much of a coward to take the dive alone.” He paused, reaching to cup Hawks’ chin between his thumb and forefinger. “Whaddya say, angel? Wanna dance in hell with me?”

Hawks sucked in a breath he didn’t need, soaking in the feeling of Dabi’s hellfire singeing his feathers - their proximity to each other deadly, driving the seraph to the edge.

“No,” Hawks breathed. A rejection for show.

“Tsk,” Dabi tutted, releasing Hawks’ chin in favor of trailing a burning hand down the seraph's neck and across his collarbone. “I know you wanna be unholy with me. You can’t hide your desire. Come on, make a teensy, little deal with the Devil,” he purred. “What’s the worst that could happen?” Dabi laughed, blue sparks bursting in his breath as he dangled the proverbial key to Hawks’ freedom between them.

Unholy. Unholy. Unholy.

Hawks, bound by his divine duty to the throne, had always kept his nose clean - never laid so much as a feather out of place. He never toed the line, but as Dabi torched the barrier between heaven and hell, Hawks succumbed to temptation, throwing himself headfirst into the fire.

Before his judgment could get the better of him, Hawks grabbed Dabi’s face, dragging the Devil into a molten kiss and burying his fingers in blue flames, gasping in pleasure as they burned him.

Dabi grinned into the kiss, a soundless laugh shaking his chest as he bundling Hawks into his scarred arms, teeth grazing over lips and tongue slipping deep into the angel’s mouth.

After what must have been days, Dabi pulled back from Hawks’ greedy lips. “How about that,” he purred. “300 decades later, and I’ve finally gotten my prize - won my angel.”

“Shut up,” Hawks growled, trying to reclaim Dabi’s lips, all worries about being found out in the throne room far from his mind.

“No,” Dabi breathed. “You misunderstand.” He leaned back in, planting a chaste kiss on his ruined angel’s bruised lips. “It wasn’t a game. I mean, it was fun to fuck with you, but it wasn’t a game. I’ve always wanted you - only you.” The blue flames in Dabi’s eyes sparked hypnotically, and his honesty tightened Hawks’ chest.

“What?” Hawks choked, amber eyes growing wide.

“Don’t make me say it again.” Dabi’s intensity charred Hawks on a molecular level, flaying his nerves raw as the Devil held his heart between his teeth.

Noises outside of the throne room filtered through the air, disturbing their solitude.

“So, you coming?” Dabi’s lips twitched, fighting back his characteristic smirk. “Or you gonna stay and let them cast you out for tonguing the Devil?”

Hawks glared at Dabi but took his hand, and together, they fled - setting off to start their new life. A life where the only rules that bound them were those they set themselves and their only hell was being apart from each other.

Over time, Hawks was quick to learn that heaven wasn’t just a multi-dimensional kingdom locked in the sky - it was also a place on earth in Dabi’s arms.
