“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan!” Their History of Magic paper has barely ended and already Wei Wuxian wishes that he could be in the Ravenclaw common room, cuddled up to Lan Wangji and whining about how boring the exam was.
“Wei Ying.”
“Lan Zhan! How was the exam, do you think your uncle will be proud of you- oh wait, what am I saying, of course he is, you’re always a perfect student-”
“The exam was fine,” Lan Wangji says, slowing down so that Wei Wuxian can catch up to him. “You, on the other hand…”
Wei Wuxian pouts, but it doesn’t stop him from slinging an arm around Lan Wangji’s shoulder and pressing a kiss to his boyfriend’s cheek. “Lan Zhan, you haven’t seen me all day and you’re already scolding me? What did I even do?”
“Fell asleep in the exam hall,” Lan Wangji says, expression blank. “Saw Wei Ying drooling.”
“I- Lan Zhan! How could you do this to me, you know how boring History of Magic is-” Wei Wuxian cuts himself off with a dramatic gasp, and collapses backwards into Lan Wangji’s arms. “Lan Zhan, you betrayer! Your words hurt me, my heart hurts, you know, how could you do this-”
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji’s voice is even, but there is the slightest twitch to his lip, and there is a twinkle in his eyes that sends Wei Wuxian’s heart pounding in his chest.
He does not care that they are right outside the exam hall, that he may or may not have failed History of Magic. What matters is that they are finally free from OWLs, and he can finally - finally! - spend some well deserved time with his boyfriend.
“Kiss me, Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian asks unthinkingly, and as always, Lan Wangji agrees. His boyfriend would never say no to him, just as Wei Wuxian would never say no to Lan Wangji.
There are lips pressed to his, unyielding but gentle, and Wei Wuxian-
Wei Wuxian tastes sugar .
Blinking, the Gryffindor pulls back, running his tongue across his lips. It is sugar, there’s a faintly sweet taste left over on his lips that wasn’t there before, and Wei Wuxian stares uncomprehendingly at his boyfriend.
“Lan Zhan?” he questions, before tugging Lan Wangji in for another kiss just to make sure, and swipes his tongue across the taller Ravenclaw’s bottom lip. The sweet taste of sugar meets his tastebuds, and Wei Wuxian can only blink.
They were literally just in an exam hall; when did Lan Wangji find the opportunity to eat sweets?
“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, why does your mouth taste like sugar? I know you’re really sweet, but not like… literally? I think??”
His boyfriend just blinks at him, but there is a telltale reddening of his ears, and Wei Wuxian pounces on the evidence. "Lan Zhan! What are you hiding! Are you actually sweet? Are you made out of sugar? Are you secretly some sugar fairy or something?"
"..." Lan Wangji is silent, refusing to answer, and Wei Wuxian pouts and clings tighter.
"Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, tell me! Please tell me?"
He probably should have expected it when Lan Wangji remains stubbornly silent, and even though his ears are burning red, his lips stay sealed. Wei Wuxian laughs softly, hugging Lan Wangji close. “Aih, Lan Zhan, why do you always ignore this poor boyfriend of yours, huh?”
“Not ignoring.”
“Eh? Lan Zhan, did you forget the meaning of ignore?” Wei Wuxian says, scrunching his nose up in faux displeasure. “You aren’t answering me, that means you’re ignoring me!”
“Am speaking to Wei Ying.”
“But you’re not answering my question!”
“...”
“See, see- you’re doing it again!” Wei Wuxian cries, widening his eyes and pouting ever harder. “Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, how could you treat your poor boyfriend like this, I’m so curious I could die, you know! Don’t you know that curiosity killed the Wei Ying? Lan Zh-”
“Ah, Wangji, you’re still here?”
Wei Wuxian cuts himself off at the voice, blinking as he lets go of Lan Wangji and turns in the direction of the voice. Just leaving the examination hall is Lan Wangji’s father, the Herbology professor who got stuck invigilating the History of Magic OWL. “Ah! Professor Father-in-law!”
The professor smiles, the corner of his eyes crinkling with laughter. “Wuxian, it is good to see you as well. How was the exam?”
Wei Wuxian shrugs. “It was okay-”
“I was the invigilator, Wuxian, I saw you sleeping.”
“Ahh, Professor Father-in-law!” Wei Wuxian cries, eyes wide with shock. “How could you be so merciless? Now I see where Lan Zhan gets it from!”
Lan Wangji’s father laughs softly, and turns to his son. “Ah, that reminds me. Wangji, do you happen to have any extra sugar quills? I’ve run out; I must remember to owl order more before the next Hogsmeade weekend…”
Immediately, Lan Wangji’s ears flare bright red, so red that it even begins to spread down to his neck, just slightly, and Wei Wuxian’s eyes fly wide open. Was that why- Merlin’s beard, how had he not known- his boyfriend liked sugar quills? His boyfriend ate them during examinations? He- that was why-
“Lan Zhan! I knew it! I knew it, you couldn’t have been literally sweet, I knew you had to have eaten something before this- tsk, how naughty, Lan Zhan, isn’t it against the rules to have food in the exam hall? Aih, Lan Zhan, you’re such a bad influence on good little me, you know!”
“Wei Ying,” his boyfriend says, expression pained.
Wei Wuxian just laughs, and leans back against Lan Wangji. “Next time, Lan Zhan, share them with me!”
“En.”
“Awwwh, Lan Zhan is the best! The sweetest, the most amazing, most beautiful- no one is better than my Lan Zhan; you’re so pretty, Lan Zhan, I’m dazzled by your beauty everyday, and your heart even purer than your beauty! The kindest, the most virtuous, the most elegant godly being- ahh, how could I ever stand in such breathtaking awe and not want to worship at your feet-” Wei Wuxian pauses to catch his breath, and immediately Lan Wangji cuts in.
A soft sigh, and Lan Wangji presses a kiss to Wei Wuxian’s forehead. “No. Wei Ying is better.”
“But Lan Zhaaan!!! I say you’re the best, so you have to be!”
“Not as good as Wei Ying.”
“Ah, Lan Zhan, how many times do I have to tell you?? You’re the absolute best, the number one, and nothing will change my mind!”
“Only for Wei Ying.”
Wei Wuxian grins widely, and hugs Lan Wangji tight, pressing his lips to his in an enthusiastic kiss, cheeks bright red.
"Lan Zhan!! I thought I said you had to warn me first before you say things like that!"
Lan Wangji hums, and kisses him again.
"I… Should I be taking my leave?" comes a voice from behind them, and Wei Wuxian pulls back, startled.
"Wha-" he begins, eyes wide, before his gaze lands on Lan Wangji's father. "Oh! Professor Father-in-law! I- haha, I forgot you were still there… I- definitely wasn't planning on making out with your son in the middle of the corridor where anyone walking by could see-”
"Father," Lan Wangji acknowledges, and his ears are bright red, but he does not let go of Wei Wuxian. "We apologise."
The professor smiles awkwardly, but makes no comment on the events that have just transpired. “Try not to let Qiren catch sight of you both; he’s already on edge because of the examinations.”
"Will do!" Wei Wuxian chirps, grinning brightly. "Thanks, Professor Father-in-law!"
“You’ve called me that for quite a few years already, Wuxian,” Qingheng-Jun says. “When will you make it a reality?”
Immediately, Wei Wuxian flushes bright red, squeaking a little as he ducks his head into the crook of Lan Wangji’s neck, blushing bright enough that even his neck feels hot. He whines a little, muffled by the skin of his boyfriend’s neck, and tries to pretend that his boyfriend’s father hadn’t just said what he’d said.
“Graduation,” Lan Wangji says, his tone unflustered like his father hadn’t just been asking them when the wedding would be held. “Will propose to Wei Ying.”
“Lan Zhan-!!” Wei Wuxian immediately protests, “what have I told you about saying things like that? My heart’s beating too fast, too fast I tell you- what if you give me a heart attack?”
“Never,” Lan Wangji insists. “Will protect Wei Ying.”
“That’s quite enough, you two,” Qingheng-Jun chides, averting his gaze. “We do still need the hall for another exam.”
Wei Wuxian laughs, and presses a gentle kiss to Lan Wangji’s cheek before pulling back to flash a grin at the professor. “Noted, Professor Father-in-law! We’ll clear out, then, and I’m definitely not planning on dragging your son back to Gryffindor Tower to make out more!”
There is a soft huff of breath, somewhere between a laugh and a sigh.
“...Just don’t let Qiren catch you both.”
